And a hey nonny nonny~!
— Alan Quail, Sonic Universe #46
Alan Quail is a mobian quail, with gray and white feathers. He wears a gray tunic, with blue gloves and jester slippers. He has a brown belt and a yellow buckle. He has two light blue horizontal stripes that are found by his eyes. His tail is blue, and his peak is a lighter shade of blue. He has yellow eyes.
One day, Alan Quail and the Mercian Freedom Fighters came across Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel during the two's travels to find Mighty's sister. As the two travelers were greeted with open arms by the Mercian Freedom Fighters, their stay was brief as Mercia Dark Egg Legion forces invaded Deerwood Forest. Alan Quail partook in the fight, providing cover for Mighty and Ray as they invade Snottingham Castle to continue their quest.
Not too long after, three of the Chaotix–Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee–were greeted with open arms by Alan Quail and the other Mercian Freedom Fighters after a brief fight with several G.O.O.N. robots. Upon asking if they had seen Mighty and Ray, the Freedom Fighters took the three to Hideaway deep inside the forest and explained to them their story, provided by Alan's musical melodies. The Chaotix, realizing that Mighty and Ray might be at Snottingham Castle, team up with the Mercian Freedom Fighters and sneak inside the castle during the night.
Alan Quail had traveled inside the castle with the Mercian Freedom Fighters to rescue prisoners, but was caught by Lord Mordred Hood. Thanks to the Chaotix (who finished their mission by searching for Mighty and Ray via the Eggnet), Lord Hood was briefly subdued and Alan Quail, the Mercian Freedom Fighters, the Chaotix, and the prisoners escaped the castle back to Hideaway thanks to a Warp Ring provided by the Chaotix.
Alan Quail is a smart-mouthed minstrel who speaks only in song. He speaks specifically in a sonnet musical style and ends all of his stories with "and a hey nonny nonny~!" He exaggerates his stories during singing. He tends to tease people, especially Munch Rat, coming at odds with him in most of their conversations. While he may seem brash, he is thoroughly dedicated to the Mercian Freedom Fighters and their goals.
Powers and abilities
Alan Quail is a competent fighter, as he is seen to know basic swordsmanship. He is shown to be strong enough to knock out several opponents.
