Eimi, describing herself in the CoroCoro Comics Special stories.

Eimi (エイミー Eimī?) is one of the main characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog serialized manga published by Shogakukan. Eimi is described as a sweet and innocent hedgehog, who lives in Hedgehog Town. She is always being taken by Anton Beruka to be forced to date him and kiss him at times. Eimi is also the girlfriend of Nikki, who can transform into Sonic the Hedgehog when in danger or if Eimi is taken from him.

Eimi is an anthropomorphic hedgehog whose appearance differs depending on which manga edition she is printed in. In the Shogaku Ninensei stories, Eimi has brown fur, a long chignon on top of her head and a red bow. She wears a yellow long-sleeved shirt with an "E" printed on it, a green dress, and red and white sneakers.

In CoroCoro Comics Special stories, Eimi's appearance is closer to her game counterpart. She has a small fringe on her forehead and head quills similar to Nikki and Sonic's. She also wears a headband, white gloves, and sneakers with shoelaces, tips and soles. Her appearance in the Shogaku Gonensei stories is identical to one in the CoroCoro Comics Specials.

Eimi is very gentle and cheerful like her boyfriend Nikki. However, she is also sensitively weak, making it easy for her to get captured by Anton Beruka or get into dangerous situations. Eimi is usually seen dreaming of Sonic the Hedgehog after she is saved by him or just sees him. Since Eimi is unaware that her boyfriend is Sonic, Nikki is often jealous of himself because Eimi is seen falling in love with him every time she spots him. Nevertheless, Eimi still loves Nikki and Nikki is happy that Eimi is safe thanks to Sonic.

Eimi's name is extremely similar to her later counterparts, both in writing and pronunciation. However, comparing the two names shows a subtle difference in the katakana - Eimī is a Japanese transliteration of her original name, whereas Emī is a closer approximation to the Japanese word meaning smile (笑み emi?). The April 1992 issue of Shogaku Ninensei (by mangaka Sango Morimoto) introduces the character wearing a sweater with an 'E', matching Nikki's 'N' and Anton Beruka's 'AB'. Regardless, this variation of the name could also technically translate as "Amy", so it is usually still rendered as such in fan-translations.
