{{nihongo|'''Amy Rose'''|エミー・ローズ|Emī Rōzu}}, also formerly known as {{nihongo|'''Rosy the Rascal'''|ロージー・ザ・ラスカル|''Rōjī za Rasukaru''}}, is a pink, anthropomorphic female hedgehog who has chased [[Sonic the Hedgehog (character)|Sonic]] around because she was in love with him and has been trying to win his heart by any means. Such methods included impressing him by fighting robots, and threatening to leave him locked in prison on [[Prison Island]]. Introduced in 1993, Amy was the first—and most recurring—female character in the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series]] and is also one of the most popular characters, coming in fifth place on an official popularity poll, being the most popular female.<ref name="poll"> {{cite web |author=Sonic Team |publisher=Sega of Japan |url=http://sonic.sega.jp/event/016/002.html |title=Japanese ''Sonic'' character popularity poll |accessdate=2006-07-14}} </ref>

Amy is a cheerful, though slightly erratic girl, with a positive attitude and nature and boundless energy. However, she has a fiery temper and her infatuation with Sonic makes her short-sighted and a bit obsessive about him, having followed him everywhere since meeting him. Nevertheless, she has a pure heart and will not let anything stop her.
She was described to be eight years old in ''[[Sonic CD]]'', but from ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'' onward she has grown older, by four years. Also, with the addition of [[Cream the Rabbit]], Amy seems to have found herself a sidekick similar to how [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]] is to Sonic (as implied in ''[[Sonic Battle]]'', ''[[Sonic Heroes]]'', ''[[Sonic Advance 3]]'', and ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|Shadow the Hedgehog]]'').

Amy Rose was created in response to a request from the character division of [[Sega]]'s licensing business, who wanted a character that could be the "[[w:c:disney:Minnie Mouse|Minnie]]" to Sonic's "[[w:c:disney:Mickey Mouse|Mickey]]".<ref name="Famitsu25">{{Cite web|url=https://www.famitsu.com/news/201606/24107383.html?page=2|last=Ray|first=Manami|title=『ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ』誕生・ヒット・新生の真実をソニックチームのレジェンドクリエイターが、25周年のいま明かす 秘蔵資料満載の永久保存版!(2/5)|publisher=Famitsu|accessdate=4 October 2020|archiveurl=https://archive.vn/aiMm2|archivedate=18 April 2020|language=Japanese|quote=中 『ソニックCD』と言えばエミー・ローズが登場しますけど、僕らアメリカにいた側からすると、それがナンパに思えたんですよ。 }}</ref> However, it was felt at the time that it would 'go against Sonic's personality' for him to be locked into a standard cartoon relationship like Mickey and Minnie. Instead, it was decided that a one-way relationship, where Amy's affection for Sonic is unrequited, would be more interesting.<ref name="2013qa">{{Cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nzxRoIX4QU&t=38m35s|title=Sonic Boom 2013 - Part 2/3 - Q&A Session|work=YouTube|accessdate=10 February 2019|author=MajinReid}}</ref>
Amy Rose is one of the few main characters in the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series]] to have her first appearance outside the Sega games. She was created by [[Kenji Terada]] for the various [[Sonic the Hedgehog (manga)|''Sonic the Hedgehog'']] [[manga]] published by ''Shogakukan''. She first appeared in the April 1992 issue of ''Shogaku Ninensei'', written and illustrated by Sango Morimoto. She also appeared in the unrelated series from ''Shogaku Ichinensei'', ''Shogaku Sannensei'', ''Shogaku Gonensei'', ''Shogaku Rokunensei'', and ''Coro Coro Comics Special'', all of which were written and illustrated by different ''mangaka'' but based on Kenji Terada's initial concept. In these series, Amy (no second name is given) is the girlfriend of [[Nicky]], a nerdy young male hedgehog with the power to transform into the superhero, [[Sonic the Hedgehog (character)|Sonic the Hedgehog]]. Amy is also the target of the bully Anton Verruca. Because of the vastly different styles of the illustrators for these series, Amy's design was different in each. She appeared most like her later games appearances in the ''Coro Coro Comics Specials'', written and illustrated by Tanaka Kouichi.

In 1993, the manga character was adapted by the ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD|Sonic CD]]'' team to be used in Sonic's [[Mega CD]] debut. Her final design for this game was done by Kazuyuki Hoshino. She appeared infrequently thereafter, in ensemble spin-off games such as ''[[Sonic the Fighters]]'', ''[[Sonic Drift]]'', ''[[Sonic Drift 2]]'', and ''[[Sonic R]]''. She did not appear in any of the early TV series, although she was included in most comics, including the [[Archie Comics]] series, the British ''[[Sonic the Comic]]'' and the French ''[[Sonic Adventures]]''.

The series began in the April 1992 issues<ref group="note">Since the cover date was one month after of the publication date, these issues were written in March 1992.</ref> of ''Shogaku Ninensei'', ''Shogaku Sannensei'', ''Shogaku Yonensei'', ''Shogaku Gonensei'' and ''Shogaku Rokunensei''. The manga series would later feature in ''Shogaku Ichinensei'' and ''[[Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special]]''.
When Sonic Team reunited and started work on their three-dimensional follow-up to the classic Sonic games, ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'', it was decided they would revive the pink hedgehog and give her a starring role in the game. [[Yuji Uekawa]], the man who would redesign all the classic characters, did the most drastic changes to Amy. While Sonic, [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]], and [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] all received minor design changes, Amy's clothing and hairstyle were completely revamped. She also had her entire figure redesigned to make her appear older, perhaps in an attempt to appeal to a different demographic than the rest of the Sonic characters.

  +
The manga series had various writers and artists, working from a story concept created by [[Kenji Terada]], who wrote the illustrated stories in ''Shogaku Yonensei''. In these series, [[Amy Rose (Shogakukan)|Amy]] is the girlfriend of [[Nicky]], a nerdy young male hedgehog with the power to transform into the superhero, [[Sonic the Hedgehog (Shogakukan)|Sonic the Hedgehog]]. Amy is also the target of the bully [[Anton Veruca]]. In the stories illustrated by Sango Morimoto, she had a very different design - most notably, she was brown rather than pink and her spines were styled into a ponytail. She is simply known as Amy throughout most of the series, with her surname "Rose" not being mentioned until later issues of ''Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special'', released after the ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD]]'' video game.
Following ''Sonic Adventure'', Amy became one of the main characters of the series, and has appeared in nearly every Sonic game since, as well as the TV series ''[[Sonic X]]''.

  +
Amy Rose made her video game debut in 1993's ''Sonic the Hedgehog CD'', as a non-playable character. In this game, she is an 8-year-old hedgehog girl kidnapped by the new antagonist, [[Metal Sonic]]. In the Japanese release, she was primarily known by her nickname '''Rosy the Rascal''', although it is still stated that her real name is "Amy Rose". In the U.S. manual of ''Sonic CD'', Amy is referred to as '''Princess Sally''', likely to connect her with a [[Sally (SatAM)|character]] who appears in the [[Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series)|''Sonic the Hedgehog'']] TV series released in 1993. She later appeared as a playable character in several ensemble spin-off games such as ''[[Sonic Drift]]'', ''[[Sonic Drift 2]]'', ''[[Sonic the Fighters]]'' and ''[[Sonic R]]''. She rarely appeared in contemporaneous TV series and books, although she was included in many of the comic series at the time.
==History==

===Kidnapped by Metal Sonic===

Using her tarot cards, Amy learned that she was to have a "destined" encounter with [[Sonic the Hedgehog (character)|Sonic the Hedgehog]] on the [[Little Planet]]. Excited, she rushed to [[Never Lake]], the location of the small planet's appearance. It wasn't long until she ran into her crush, Sonic, in [[Palmtree Panic]]. Amy couldn't help but excitedly grab onto her hero, an action which Sonic did not find to be very pleasing. Amy's happiness was short-lived, for as she continued to follow Sonic into [[Collision Chaos]], she was kidnapped by [[Doctor Eggman|Dr. Eggman's]] latest creation, [[Metal Sonic]]. Though Sonic eventually rescued Amy from her capture—while saving Little Planet from Eggman's grasp—he did not reciprocate her advances.

  +
When Sonic Team reunited and started work on their three-dimensional follow-up to the classic ''Sonic'' games, ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'', it was decided they would give her a starring role in the game. Like the rest of the returning cast, Amy was given an updated design by [[Yuji Uekawa]]. While Sonic, [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]] and [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] all received minor design changes, Amy's clothing and hairstyle were completely revamped. She also had her entire figure redesigned to make her appear older. In addition to her redesign, her official age was changed from 8 to 12.
===Racing and Fighting===

Apparently following Sonic, Amy ended up joining two drift-racing competitions, both of which offered [[Chaos Emerald]]s as prizes. Driving a blue car, and later a red one, she competed in both races in an attempt to impress Sonic. A short while afterward, Dr. Eggman planned to dominate the world from space, and Sonic’s friend, [[Miles "Tails" Prower]], made a spaceship that only had one seat and required the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Wanting to use the ship, everyone who had an Emerald fought to gain the others, including Amy. Under the alias of "Rosy the Rascal", she competed for the chance to defeat Eggman and impress Sonic.

==="Birdie" and the Chaos Incident===

<gallery type="slideshow" position="left" widths="225">
Upon her eventual return to her home in downtown [[Station Square]], Amy lived a normal life in Sonic’s absence. During this time, she also had a makeover; her green sweater and orange skirt were replaced by a red dress with white trim, her blue-and-white shoes were substituted for red-and white boots, and she now sported a hair band and golden rings around her wrists. Amy also styled her spines in a manner similar to an [[Echidnas|echidna]], rather than wear them up, as they had been beforehand. It was while shopping and reminiscing about her times with Sonic that the [[Egg Carrier]] flew over the city, and a small blue [[Flicky]] fell out and knocked Amy over. Amy named it "Birdie" and soon, one of Eggman’s robots, [[E-100 Alpha|E-100 "ZERO" Alpha]], arrived and chased the two of them. Amy and Birdie escaped by hiding in the burger shop, and Amy decided to find Sonic and make him Birdie’s bodyguard for a short while.

Amy is a pink-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with bright green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears, and arms. She has a small black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She also has two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also has three spikes for bangs on her head and a short pointy tail.
When she found him outside of [[Casinopolis]], Sonic was shocked to see her, and refused her request, which led Amy to say that she would "tag along" anyway. After fleeing Alpha again, the three ended up in [[Twinkle Park]], where Amy and Birdie lost Sonic, after being chased.But as they escaped, the robot soon caught up with them and kidnapped and forcibly taken to the [[Mystic Ruins]], where Eggman picked them up and had Amy and Birdie locked in a cell. After managing to turn [[E-102 Gamma]]’s allegiance, the two fled through the [[Hot Shelter]].

  +
For attire, Amy wears a red sleeveless and backless dress with two white trims and a white petticoat underneath, tall red boots with a white stripe down the center, white cuffs and gray soles with chunky heels, a red hairband, and white wrist-length gloves with gold bracelets for cuffs.
However, the pair were transported to the past, where they found themselves in the land of the [[Knuckles Tribe]], and watched [[Tikal the Echidna|Tikal]] with a group of [[Chao]] meeting [[Chaos]]. Returning to the present day, a somewhat-confused Amy and Birdie escaped to the flight deck, where Eggman was confronting Sonic and Tails. Although she was delighted to see them, Amy’s joy was short-lived when the Doctor grabbed Birdie and took a Chaos Emerald from the pendant he had been wearing. Eggman then called Gamma to destroy the intruders before fleeing himself. Sonic, Tails and Gamma were just about to finish off each other when Amy convinced them to stop. Sonic then told Tails to fly Amy away, which he did, just before the Egg Carrier lost altitude and exploded. Arriving in Station Square, Amy went to search for Birdie’s family, first in the [[Final Egg]], and then the crash-landed Egg Carrier, where they were attacked by Alpha, who had hurt Birdie. Enraged, Amy attacked and destroyed the menacing robot. Birdie eventually found and returned to his family, who had been trapped inside of [[E-102 Gamma]] and [[E-101 Beta]]. As the birds flew off and Amy prepared to leave the Egg Carrier, she decided that she would not give up, and that someday she would make Sonic respect her.

  +
When she was younger, Amy's five head quills were longer and pointed backward, and she had a single back spine, her eyes were black. For attire, Amy wears an orange-ruffled or pleated skirt, a green puffy-sleeved shirt with a white collar and cuff bands, white and lavender sneakers with orange shoelaces, white wrist-length gloves, and a red ribbon headband.
Later, Amy returned to Station Square, which had been destroyed by [[Perfect Chaos]]. After Perfect Chaos had absorbed the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds and thrown them away, Amy grabbed one of them and brought it to Sonic, while Tails, [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] and [[Big the Cat]] brought the other six Emeralds. Together, they formed positive power through their caring for each other. Sonic tapped into this power and transformed into [[Super Sonic]], and was able to defeat Perfect Chaos.

  +
At one point in her young lifestyle, she wears the red dressing and red boots similar to what she would normally wearing.
===Maginaryworld===

In ''[[Sonic Shuffle]]'', Amy, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman were all summoned to [[Maginaryworld]] by [[Lumina Flowlight]], who needed them to help repair the [[Precioustone]]. Each character had his or her own role to play, and with each other’s help, the Precioustone was repaired, Maginaryworld was saved, and the heroes were returned to [[Earth]].

  +
On special occasions, Amy has worn different outfits:
===Convincing Shadow of his Destiny===

  +
*For [[Extreme Gear]] competitions, Amy wears a white and rose dress-like tank top; rose sweatpants with a white stripe on each side; white wrist-length gloves with visible seams, along with red wristbands with a single yellow stripe in the middle; and red sport shoes with white stripes, white shoelaces caught on yellow triangular-hooked eyelets, and gray soles. She also retains her standard hairband.
Amy was an important supporting character in ''[[Sonic Adventure 2]]''. Although not playable in the main story, she was playable in two-player mode. When Sonic was trapped on [[Prison Island (place)|Prison Island]], Amy somehow managed to arrive on Prison Island and accidentally stumbled upon Eggman, [[Shadow the Hedgehog|Shadow]], and [[Rouge the Bat|Rouge's]] plan to steal the Chaos Emeralds. She ended up cornered by Eggman as a consequence, but was saved at the last minute by Tails. With Tails' help, Amy managed to free Sonic—this is one of several times that Amy has saved Sonic, instead of the other way around. When she learned from Sonic that the reason why he was on Prison Island was because of the actions of a "fake hedgehog", she realized that he was referring to Shadow, and informed him of Shadow's allegiance to Eggman. She also briefly saw some writing on the wall of Sonic's cell, actually equations made by the former occupant of the cell, Professor [[Gerald Robotnik]], to cause a catastrophic crash via the [[Space Colony ARK]] to destroy the planet as revenge for the death of Maria Robotnik, his granddaughter.

  +
*During the [[Mario & Sonic series|''Olympic'' Games]], Amy has worn a number of different outfits depending on the event and the environments she faces:
  +
**For regular sporting events in the summer, she wears a rose mini dress similar to her normal dress, but with white shoulder straps, with the addition of black shorts underneath it; and rose sports shoes with white stripes, white cuffs, white shoelaces caught on yellow triangular hooked eyelets, and gray soles. She also wears white wrist-length gloves along with rose wristbands with a single white stripe and retains her standard hairband.
  +
**For winter and equestrian events, she wears a rose parka dress, also similar to her normal dress, but with a pink collar and two dark pink drawstrings hanging from it, with white pom-poms decorating them at the ends; black tights, white wrist-length gloves with pink cuffs at the wrists with a single rose stripe in the middle and rose and white-zipped boots with yellow detailing and pink and rose cuffs. She also wears her standard hairband.
  +
**For swimming and gymnastic events, she wears a red sleeveless one-piece swimsuit with two white trims, a white-rimmed skirt with a red trim, and red flats. She also wears her standard hairband, gloves, and bracelets.
  +
*During an [[Sonic Runners#Puyo Puyo's Falling Sky Road|incident]] involving [[Puyo Puyo]]s, Amy wore a red Puyo Puyo cap; a pink, sleeveless hoodie with a cyan stripe down the middle, and a yellow, flower-shaped button at the top; emerald green wristbands; yellow shorts with pink hearts and a crimson belt; long, purple socks; tall, crimson boots with a stripe of the same color down the center, and white soles. Her outfit closely resembles the protagonist of ''Puyo Puyo Fever'', Amitie.
  +
* Once, Amy wore a Gothic-styled outfit that consisted of a black and white hat with two ribbons; black gloves with dark gray and white cuffs; a black and white-rimmed dress adorned with white buttons, black ribbons, and two dark gray buns; and black shoes.
  +
*[[Sonic Forces: Speed Battle|Once]], Amy wore a baseball player-esque outfit that consisted of a red and white cap; a red and white baseball jersey with white short sleeves, and the text "Amy Rose" written in a black font along with the number "93", and red buttons; red and white baseball gloves; white pants with red stripes down the sides; red socks; and red shoes with white stripes, no shoelaces, and light-gray soles.
  +
*Once, Amy wore a winter holiday-themed outfit that included a green bow on her head; a red, short-sleeved button-down shirt with yellow trimming and buttons; a green overall dress similar to her usual dress, with yellow buttons and embroidered patterns, an embroidered candy cane, and a white, woolly trim; white gloves with white, woolly wrist cuffs; white and red striped stockings; green boots with white, woolly cuffs, red ribbons that have red laces with white, woolly pom-poms at the ends, and black and yellow soles.
  +
*Once, Amy wore a knight-themed outfit, with primarily silver and red armor plating, a gold and cyan necklace with a red jewel encased in gold attached, red and gold shoulder pads, white, yellow, and scarlet elbow-high gloves with silver and gold block-like cuffs, white boots, with gold accents and dark pink soles, a white and dark red skirt, a V-shaped gold and silver plate of armor on her brow that has a red jewel in the middle, white and gold armor on her ears, red, silver, and gold feather-shaped armor on either side of her head, and a small silver helmet running from the top to the back of her head. She also wields a gold, red, white, and silver hexagonal-shaped hammer.
  +
*[[Sonic Speed Simulator|Once]] and in a [[Media:SonicChannel Valentines2020.jpg|Valentine's Day artwork]], Amy wore a chef-themed outfit, which consisted of her wearing a red headscarf, a white shirt with frills at the sleeves under a scarlet apron with white frills at the end of the skirt and a white heart in the center, and scarlet boots with gray soles, white cuffs with a frilly design, and a small black stripe running down the middle of each. She also wore her standard gloves and bracelets.
  +
*Once, Amy wore a swimsuit identical to the swimsuit she wears in ''[[Sonic X]]'', which consisted of a matching red bikini top and skirt with yellow hearts patterned all over them, white wrist-length gloves with small, gold bracelets for cuffs, a red hairband with yellow hearts on either side of her head, and red slip-on shoes with green and purple stripes going across them and yellow hearts on the outside of either shoe.
  +
*During the [[Paradox Prism]] saga, Amy wore a slightly different version of her normal red dress which covered her entire back, shoulders, and upper legs, in addition to sporting white-trimmed armholes.
  +
*In ''[[The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog]]'', Amy wore a maroon ankle-length evening gown with a gold waistband. Aside from retaining her usual gloves with the gown as their bracelets match the waistband, she also wears a blue feather boa, maroon T-strap shoes and a similarly colored version of her hairband to match the gown and a small cake bauble offset in her hair near the hairband's leftmost side to top it all off.

  +
==Personality==
Because of the events of Sonic's escape, as well as her involvement in it, Amy was also targeted by [[G.U.N.]] to be arrested, even after Eggman's doomsday threat. She eventually was captured by Dr. Eggman on board the ARK. Eggman deduced that Sonic and Tails were carrying both a real and a fake emerald, and demanded the locations of the two while holding her at gunpoint. After luring them to the pinnacle area of the Death Egg and presumably killing Sonic via a rigged escape capsule, Amy broke down in tears, but was later relieved when learning that Sonic actually survived. She also managed to convince Shadow that [[Maria Robotnik|Maria's]] true wish was for him to bring hope to humanity, not to seek revenge on them for her. Amy begged Shadow to help everyone, and he in turn ended up saving the world from the [[Biolizard]], and later the [[Finalhazard]].

Bold and fearless,<ref name="Sonic2006 Web" /> Amy is a proactive go-getter that goes after what she wants and lets nothing get in her way. As early as the first [[Little Planet]] [[Sonic the Hedgehog CD|incident]], Amy was shown to possess a proactive streak. When she had just her tarot cards to go by back then, she made her way to Little Planet when her tarot cards told her that she had a "destined encounter" on the small satellite. Likewise, she is an intuitive activist, which usually means she acts before thinking things through.<ref name="JPSHeroes">{{Cite web|url=http://sonic.sega.jp/sonic_heroes/chara_r.html|title=Official Sonic Heroes website|author=[[Sega]]|publisher=[[Sega]]|work=Characters: Team Rose|accessdate=25 May 2021|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20041211034427/http://sonic.sega.jp/sonic_heroes/chara_r.html|archivedate=11 December 2004|language=Japanese}}</ref>

Amy is described as an "energetic tomboy",<ref name="SCDProfile" /> though by the time of the [[Chaos]] [[Sonic Adventure|incident]], she is shown to have traditional feminine interests nonetheless, such as shopping and fashion.<ref name="M&SR2016OGProfile" /> Despite her assertiveness though, it has not come at the expense of her sense of femininity. Amy also hates boredom and loves thrills and excitement; during her time in [[Station Square]], she found her mundane city life dull and longed for the exhilaration of being a part of [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]]'s adventures.
===Girl on the Gameboy===

Amy was playable in ''[[Sonic Advance]]'', but unlike the other playable characters, she could not spin and all of her attacks had to be triggered by a button press. She was an unlockable character in ''[[Sonic Advance 2]]'', after collecting all of the Chaos Emeralds with all four of the other characters. She had apparently engaged in some training, as she was able to spin jump and spin dash in this game. She could also do this in ''[[Sonic Advance 3]]'', but only if she was partnered with Sonic. If Amy is the leader, the partner behaves as she does in ''Sonic Advance''.

  +
Amy is very open and expressive about her feelings and emotions, always speaking her mind and never letting her feelings get bottled up inside.<ref>[[Sonic Team]], [[Dimps]] (15 November 2005). ''[[Sonic Rush]]''. [[Nintendo DS]]. [[Sega]]. Area/Level: Zone Map. "'''[[Blaze the Cat|Blaze]]''': (She really is open about her emotions...) (Something that I am not allowed to do...)"</ref> As such, Amy can be quite obsessive and aggressive, especially when it comes to her infatuations with Sonic. When angered, she has a habit of pulling out and threatening others with her [[Piko Piko Hammer]], especially when anyone crosses her or hurts people she cares about. Amy has been shown as well to have no reservations about expressing more extreme emotions, be it either crying when overcome with sadness or not holding back in expressing her over-the-top enthusiasm. As a result, Amy can come off as overbearing and very pushy. Possessing a powerful personality, her assertiveness and temper make her something of a troublemaker. All the same, she has shown to not tolerate people hurting those she cares about and will retaliate with anger when witnessing such acts. As such, her enthusiasm tends to get her as much in trouble as it helps out others.
===Chasing Sonic with Help===

In ''[[Sonic Heroes]]'', Amy is the leader of [[Team Rose]], and the team's [[Speed Type|speed type]] leader. She is accompanied by [[Cream the Rabbit]] and [[Big the Cat]], who want to find [[Chocola]] ([[Cheese]]'s brother) and [[Froggy]], respectively. Amy, however, simply wants to find Sonic and force him to marry her. She and her team eventually confront Metal Sonic with [[Team Sonic]], [[Team Dark]], and [[Team Chaotix]], after he copied their data. They also find out that Metal Sonic is the one who has kidnapped Chocola and Froggy.

  +
Originally, Amy was barely able to take care of herself when in dangerous situations. As such, she was ultimately a damsel-in-distress figure who needed Sonic to save her. Recognizing this, she eventually started chasing after her hero, and gradually "grew" into a tenacious and more proactive girl, who is as active and strong as Sonic.<ref name="SonicxAmy">{{Cite web|url=http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicChannel/topics/special/coverstory/20210222_002499/|title=ソニック & エミー|author=[[Sega]]|publisher=[[Sonic Channel]]|accessdate=24 February 2021|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20210222084040/http://sonic.sega.jp/SonicChannel/topics/special/coverstory/20210222_002499/|archivedate=22 February 2021|language=Japanese}}</ref>
===Boxercise and Parenting===

Amy appears in ''[[Sonic Battle]]'' as a playable character. In the story, Amy comes and asks Tails about [[Emerl]], and Tails explains that Emerl is like Sonic's "child". Amy takes this literally and thinks that if Sonic is Emerl's "Daddy", he must want her to be the "Mommy", and that he is testing her to see if she could handle taking care of a real child. Amy then takes Emerl away and tells him to call her "Mommy", thus making Emerl believe that Amy is actually his mother. Amy also chases after and fights Rouge when she steals Emerl for her own purposes. Amy is often considered to be one of the stronger and more reliable characters in the game, since all of her attacks are fairly balanced, and contain a good mixture of speed and power. Her healing ability can quickly raise her HP, and she is the third fastest character in the game. And she has a few of the best special cards.

  +
During the [[Emerl]] [[Sonic Battle|incident]], she developed a fascination with "boxercise" playing to both elements of her personality. The exercise helped her lose weight to maintain her girlish figure, and the boxing helped her train when she is forced to fight. She also had shown a very powerful and aggressive attitude, willing to fight whenever necessary to help and protect those she cares about.
===Sticking with Shadow===

Amy appeared alongside Sonic and the rest of the cast in ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|Shadow the Hedgehog]]'' to try to convince Shadow to join their cause. Amy needs Shadow's help to rescue [[Cream the Rabbit|Cream]] and [[Cheese]] from Eggman's [[Cryptic Castle]]. No matter which mission the player chooses, after the stage is completed, Amy will assist the player in the fight against the [[Egg Breaker]]. Oddly enough, however, she does not appear in the cutscenes before or after the battle.

  +
Amy has a kind heart and never gives up, having a strong belief in fate and destiny. Her faith in her tarot cards led her to the fated encounter that brought Sonic into her life, and, during the Emerl incident, she showed such faith in her tarot cards that she insisted that Sonic would be at [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]]' place on their reading outcome alone. Amy regularly talks about the power of love and true love and strongly believes in the merit of dreams and wishes.
===Speeding along on the Pink Rose===

Amy is a playable character in ''[[Sonic Riders]]'' from the start. She is a [[Speed Type|speed type]] racer, and has stats equivalent to Sonic's and [[Jet the Hawk|Jet's]]. She joins in the EX World Grand Prix because she wants to "keep her eye on Sonic".

  +
Amy is also an optimist,<ref name="SCDProfile" /> and is usually very cheerful and possesses a positive outlook on life. She is always full of hope and is always cheering on for the good side of things. Notably, she rarely seems to find anything hopeless, as shown during the Chaos incident, where she was determined to help [[Birdie]], who had lost his family. This cheerfulness likewise makes her the driving force of [[Team Rose|her team]].<ref name="JPSHeroes" />
In ''[[Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity]]'', she finds one of the [[Ark of the Cosmos|Arks of the Cosmos]] and, not knowing what it actually was, refused to hand it over to Jet. After being chased after by [[Storm the Albatross|Storm]], she throws it at his face and gets mad at him because he caused her to become lost. Amy forces him to lead her back to Sonic, but he ditches her when he finds a destroyed robot with another Ark of the Cosmos inside. She is then found by Sonic, and tells him that Storm mentioned the [[Gigan Rocks]], a place where they could find information about the Arks.

  +
Amy has a very strong sense of empathy and a surprising capability for caring. She is very encouraging and is more than willing to reach out to all kinds of people. During the Chaos incident, Amy showed she was more than willing to protect Birdie, and helped it reunite with its siblings out of the goodness of her heart. She similarly defended [[E-102 Gamma]] from Sonic when the latter tried to destroy him after motivating Gamma to rebel against Eggman. Similarly, during the [[Space Colony ARK]] [[Sonic Adventure 2|incident]], she reached out to [[Shadow the Hedgehog|Shadow]], pleading to him by telling him that as selfish as humanity was, they deserved a chance to be happy. Likewise, during the [[Neo Metal Sonic]] [[Sonic Heroes|incident]], Amy raised [[Cream the Rabbit|Cream]] and [[Big the Cat|Big]]'s spirits whenever they lost hope about finding their friends. When it comes down to it, Amy is a likable person and has rarely met anyone she did not befriend.
Amy teams up with Cream and [[Vector the Crocodile|Vector]] in ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]'' in order to win the second EX Grand Prix and so she can see Sonic. In the Team Rose story, they must beat three teams in order to win the World Grand Prix. In the end, Amy celebrates her victory and rushes to Sonic, telling him he should go on a date with her because she won.

  +
She is also quite impulsive, as her feelings for Sonic have led her to do things without thinking about them.
===Time Paradox===

Amy appears in ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)]]'' and serves as an ally in [[Silver the Hedgehog]]'s storyline. In this game, she mistakes Silver as Sonic. Learning that Silver was also looking for Sonic, she tries to enlist his help, not realizing Silver's true intentions on killing Sonic. Upon finding Sonic, Silver battles him and loses, but manages to catch Sonic off-guard afterward, and is able to hit him with a powerful blow, thus gaining the upper hand. However, Amy stops him from delivering the final blow. Amy also saves the damsel-in-distress [[Princess Elise]]—as well as Sonic—at one point in the story. She eventually found out that Silver didn't kill Sonic and that it was all part of [[Mephiles the Dark|Mephiles']] plan to kill Sonic himself.

  +
==Powers and abilities==
Amy can be played during the final level, [[End of the World]], where she helps to revive Sonic by collecting one of the Chaos Emeralds. In the end, [[Solaris]] is been destroyed by Super Sonic, Super Shadow and Silver.

===Attempting to Make a Blue Hedgehog Green with Envy===

In ''[[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'', Amy went with Sonic to save Knuckles—and later the world—from [[Ix the Echidna|Imperator Ix]]. Early on in the story, Amy claims to Sonic that she has found a new boyfriend called [[Dexter]] and tries at many occasions to present him as a great boyfriend, but without going into much detail about him. Depending on the player's choices, Amy will reveal to Sonic that she just made him up in an attempt to make Sonic jealous.

  +
[[File:Sonicheroes-3.jpg|thumb|225px|Amy creating a tornado with her [[Piko Piko Hammer|hammer]], from ''[[Sonic Heroes]]''.]]
It is revealed in this game that Amy has started a club for young girls to protect themselves from bullies. When the [[Overmind|Voxai Overmind]] brainwashed her, she says "''You never pay attention to me".'' Also, the player can engage in a romantic subplot between Sonic and Amy, which varies based on the player's conversation choices. She is the first unlockable character and the second playable character, as well as the third in order of appearance.

  +
Amy is highly proficient in wielding her trademark [[Piko Piko Hammer]], having been stated to be second to none when in control of it.<ref name="SA2">''[[Sonic Adventure]]'' ([[Dreamcast]]) United States instruction booklet, pg. 24.</ref> With it, she is capable of [[Hammer Attack|destructive blows]] that can smash through [[Badnik|robot]] armor or perform [[Hammer Jump|enhanced leaps]]. Using her Piko Piko Hammer, Amy can even pull off incredible, physics-defying feats, such as sustaining temporary flight by [[Propeller Hammer|spinning her Piko Piko Hammer around like a propeller]], stirring up [[Tornado Hammer|tornado effects]] by swinging her Piko Piko Hammer around, execute [[Mid-Air Hammer Jump|mid-air jumps]] by setting off from hits in mid-air with her hammer, launch [[Pink Typhoon|powerful]] [[Air Pink Typhoon|shockwaves]] with a single swing, or create [[Rose Typhoon|expanding domes of energy]].

===Meet the Werehog===

Amy is one of the few Sonic characters to appear in ''[[Sonic Unleashed]]''. She made her introduction, as she did in ''Sonic Adventure 2''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> Dark Story and Silver's story in ''Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)'', by hugging someone who looks like Sonic the Hedgehog. Although she hugged the right hedgehog this time, she didn't recognize Sonic due to him being in his [[Sonic the Werehog|Werehog]] form. She apologized, saying that she could have sworn it was him, and then ran off, causing Sonic to become depressed, as he is shown that he is not the same at all in his new form. Later, after Sonic saves her from some people possessed by [[Dark Gaia]], he dashed away.

  +
Amy is also able to perform the [[Spin Attack]], a technique where she curls into a concussive ball or cutting disk and directs herself at her targets. With it, Amy can shred or burrow through just about any substance given enough speed. Adept in its usage, Amy can utilize several variants of the Spin Attack for both ground- and aerial maneuvers, including the [[Spin Dash]], [[Spin Jump]], and [[Homing Attack]].
Amy later finds out about Sonic's new form, saying that although he's changed his look, he's still Sonic to her. She later helps out [[Professor Pickle]], and in one cutscene, she talks about being interested in learning ([[Wii]]/[[PlayStation 2|PS2]] version only). She follows Sonic, Tails, [[Chip]], and Professor Pickle to [[Shamar]]. Sonic can talk to her between levels, just like before. At one point, she asks Sonic out on a date, and he can either agree or turn her down. She later strikes hope into Professor Pickle by showing unwavering faith in Sonic during his final battle. After the fact, Amy throws Sonic a "welcome home" party, which isn't actually shown, only mentioned.

However, Amy's primary fighting style focuses heavily on her Piko Piko Hammer. In battle, she uses her hammer's size and durability to her advantage, using it either to [[Hammer Attack|crush]] foes with devastating force by bringing it down on them, sending opponents flying into the air with an [[Girl Swing|upward swing]] or [[Jump Attack|extend her attack range]]. For more offensive moves, Amy can twirl around with her Piko Piko Hammer, thereby turning herself into a [[G. Tornado|spinning]] [[Spin Hammer Attack|top]] that mows down everything caught in her attack radius, though such maneuvers can leave her dizzy.
Amy appears in ''[[Sonic and the Black Knight]]'', portrayed as [[Nimue, the Lady of the Lake]]. She gives [[Excalibur]] to [[King Arthur]], which later proves to be a mistake. Sonic backs away when he firsts meets her because he thinks she is actually Amy. Nimue tells him that whoever holds the scabbard of Excalibur will become corrupted by its influence. She gives three tests to Sonic: First, he must free the innocent people from King Arthur's dungeon. Second, he must show compassion to those in need, and finally, he must defeat King Arthur's [[Knights of the Underworld]].

Nimue places a three-day time limit for the tests to be completed. On the third day, she disguises herself as a young child and asks Sonic to rescue her "parents" and the people from her village. He completes the test, but runs out of time. She reveals herself after he tells her everyone's okay. She states that he has shown courage, strength and compassion. Nimue then explains to Sonic that [[Caliburn]], along with the swords of [[Sir Gawain]], [[Sir Lancelot]], and [[Dame Percival]] combined can stop Excalibur's immortality-giving ability. Nimue appears as the kingdom is falling into darkness and tells Sonic and the three knights to place their swords in four shrines to create a barrier around [[Camelot Castle]]. After the game, Sonic, who has been taken back to his world, explains his journey to Amy Rose, who then complains that he is lying and forgot about their date and proceeds to attack him with her hammer, as ''[[My Sweet Passion]]'' plays.

Amy has steadily proven herself a very talented [[Extreme Gear]] rider. Though she did not make it to the finals during the [[Sonic Riders|first]] [[World Grand Prix]], she had become so skilled at riding Extreme Gear at the time of the [[Sonic Free Riders|second]] World Grand Prix that she was able to compete against even the world's best Extreme Gear riders. While riding on an Extreme Gear, Amy is skillful enough to ride on rails, focus on opponents while remaining in control of her Extreme Gear, and pull off highly advanced tricks and techniques while in midair.
===A Cosmic Picnic===

Amy appears in the [[Nintendo DS|DS]] version of ''[[Sonic Colors]]'' as a non-playable character. She is excited to see Sonic again and asks him to complete a mission for her entertainment. When Sonic finishes it, Amy comments that it was "dreamy" and asks Sonic to marry her, causing Sonic to ditch her and leave the problem to Tails. Later, Amy finds Sonic with Big, and asks him to complete one more mission for her. After Sonic is done, Amy decides to have a picnic with him. Amy then screams in joy, saying, ''"Eating together in an Aquarium! We are so gonna date!"'' Tails comments on this, explaining that they were in the middle of Eggman's base.

===Chasing Two Sonics===

Amy appears in the console version of ''[[Sonic Generations]]''. Amy and the others were celebrating Sonic's birthday, but were captured by the [[Time Eater]]. Amy ends up in [[Chemical Plant Zone (Sonic Generations)|Chemical Plant]] as a statue. If Classic Sonic rescues her, Amy notices how Sonic looks "younger every day" and asks about his "secret", leaving him annoyed. If Modern Sonic rescues her, Amy says she was afraid that she would never be able to "flirt with him" again, leaving him exasperated. Later, at the [[Center of Time]], she encouraged both Sonics, alongside Knuckles. After the final battle, Amy and the others returned to the present and continued celebrating. She congratulates Sonic for being "great", as opposed to Knuckles' view of Sonic's performance as being "not half bad". After this, she joins the other characters in saying goodbye to Classic Sonic and Classic Tails.

  +
As seen during [[Dodon Pa]]'s [[Team Sonic Racing|Grand Prix]], Amy also has excellent skills when it comes to driving and racing in racecars like the [[Pink Cabriolet]].
Amy also appears in a Chemical Plant mission where she helps Modern Sonic jump to higher places underwater with her Piko Piko Hammer. She also races against Classic Sonic in a [[Sky Sanctuary Zone (Sonic Generations)|Sky Sanctuary]] mission. She stands outside Chemical Plant, in the [[Hub World]], giving Sonic tips on the stage as he walks by. She also appears as a trophy in the trophy room, and her classic form was released as DLC as an [[Xbox 360]] avatar costume.

Amy also appears in Sonic's storyline in ''[[Sonic Rivals]]''. Amy has been turned into a card by Dr. Eggman and Sonic sets off to save both her and [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]]. She also makes cameo appearances on three collectible cards. She doesn't appear in the story of ''[[Sonic Rivals 2]]'', but she is featured on two collectible cards.

During the [[Emerl]] [[Sonic Battle|incident]], Amy made use of [[Air Gift|explosive]] [[Gift|bombs]] wrapped tenderly in gift packs. Also during that time frame, she reveals to Cream, that she wears heavy weights around her arms, which serves as her bracelets, and legs, though they are unseen, all the time for training purposes, explaining Amy's great physical strength.
Amy is a playable character in the Party Mode of ''[[Sonic and the Secret Rings]]'' alongside Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Cream, Silver, and Blaze.

  +
During the [[Starfall Islands]] [[Sonic Frontiers|incident]], Amy also made use of her fortune-telling cards. She uses these cards to provide information and guide her way in moments of cluelessness. She also uses them to attack her enemies, as a faster alternative to her hammer.
Amy appears as a playable character in ''[[Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games]]''.<ref name="FactSheet">ftp://segapr.segaamerica.com/SEGA_E32007/Mario%20&%20Sonic%20at%20the%20Olympic%20Games/Fact%20sheet/</ref> Like all the other female characters, Amy sports a different outfit than her normal dress. Her dress is similar to her normal one, but different around the shoulders, with the addition of black leggings underneath it and a different pair of shoes.

===Transformations===
Amy is a playable character in the game ''[[Sega Superstars Tennis]]''. She also appears in the game ''[[Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games]]'' as an all-around type character. Her main rival is [[Princess Peach]]. Her signature move is [[Pink Typhoon]] for the Wii version and [[Rose Spin]] for the DS version. She wears a pink parka, black leggings, and pink boots.

A weaker variant of the [[super transformation]]. Amy is capable of using this mode for a brief time on her own by drawing power from the [[Chaos Emerald]]s. In Hyper Mode, Amy's speed and attack power greatly increases.

  +
====Color Powers====
Amy appears in ''[[Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing]]'', alongside Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Dr. Eggman and Big the Cat. Her model car is the [[Pink Cabriolet]], an old-fashioned pink buggy with a spare tire cover etched with "AMY", and a plate on the front that says: "AMY-ROSE". Her All-Star Move is the Piko Piko Hammer; she pulls it out and madly swings it around to smash anyone unlucky enough to get in her way. Her All-Star Theme is "[[My Sweet Passion]]" from ''Sonic Adventure''. She will return as a racer in ''[[Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed]]''.

By harnessing different variants of [[Hyper-go-on]] from [[Wisp]]s, Amy can use specific '''Color Powers''' to transform into a certain form, such as a drill, a laser, or even a planet, each one possessing its own unique abilities. So far, Amy has been able to transform into the [[Cyan Laser]], [[Yellow Drill]], and [[Indigo Asteroid]]. However, these transformations require a steady supply of Hyper-go-on to be maintained.

  +
====Super Amy====
Amy also appeared in ''[[Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games]]'' as the third playable ''Sonic'' character. In her official artwork, she is shown to have a newly-designed swimsuit, although it will not be her new design in all of the new games.

By harnessing the power of all seven [[Chaos Emerald]]s, Amy can enter a [[Super transformation|Super State]], transforming her into '''Super Amy'''. In this state, all of Amy's abilities far surpass her normal ones, with the addition of near-invulnerability. However, this transformation consumes a lot of energy and requires [[Ring]]s to be maintained.

==Personality==
+
====Hyper Amy====
  +
{{Main|Hyper Amy}}
Amy in the main series is presented as being somewhat kind and sweet. In ''[[Sonic CD]]'', she was referred to as an "optimistic tomboy" who loves fortunes and uses tarot cards. Because of her tomboyish nature, she became a playable character as a fighter in ''[[Sonic the Fighters]]''. However, after ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'', Amy had grown a more feminine personality, such as an interest in shopping and fashion, but that didn't remove her tomboyish nature, as in the more recent games, Amy has become far more violent and aggressive, much to Sonic's dismay. She often shows her anger by pulling out her [[Piko Piko Hammer]] out of [[Hammerspace]], sometimes threatening [[Sonic]] with it.

  +
By harnessing the power of all seven [[Super Emerald]]s, Amy can transform into '''Hyper Amy'''. In this state all of Amy's innate abilities far surpass her normal ones, and even those of Super Amy. Additionally, this form allows Amy to rapidly throw [[Piko Piko Hammer]]s from a distance.

  +
==Weakness==
In ''[[Sonic Battle]]'', her attraction towards "Boxercise" plays to both elements of her ever-changing personality: the exercise helping her lose weight to maintain her girlish figure, and the boxing to help her train when she's forced to fight. In ''[[Sonic Battle]],'' she had shown a very powerful and aggressive attitude, willing to fight whenever necessary.

  +
Amy's eagerness and enthusiasm are so strong they often get the best of her.

  +
==Relationships==
Despite her violent tendencies, Amy has a very good heart, never gives up, and is one of the most optimistic and cheerful characters of the series. Amy is always full of hope and is always cheering on for the good side of things. She almost never seems to find anything hopeless, as shown in ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'', where she was determined to help the [[Flicky]] who had lost his family. Amy has a few personality traits that Sonic has as well.

{{Quote left|Do [[Sonic the Hedgehog|you]] know how hard it is to find a guy who never stops running? Although that's part of your charm, I suppose.|Amy Rose, [[Sonic Colors (Nintendo DS)|''Sonic Colors'' (Nintendo DS)]]}}

[[Sonic the Hedgehog]] is one of Amy's best friends. During the [[Little Planet]] [[Sonic the Hedgehog CD|incident]], she went to Little Planet after having a tarot card reading that predicted a "destined" encounter with him.<ref name="SCDProfile" /><ref>''[[Sonic the Hedgehog CD (2011)|Sonic the Hedgehog CD]]'' ([[iOS]]) English instruction menu, "[[Media:Sonic CD Mobile Instructions 2.jpg|Characters]]"</ref> Upon seeing Sonic for the first time in [[Palmtree Panic]], she fell in love with him instantly, even attempting to hug him in Palmtree Panic, and following him to [[Collision Chaos]], despite Sonic not sharing the same feelings for her. However, when Amy was kidnapped by [[Metal Sonic]], Sonic attempted to rescue her, eventually doing so, after which Amy hugged him as thanks.

  +
As aforementioned, the original concept for Amy was for her to be Sonic's love interest all along, but Yuji Naka refused, believing it to go against Sonic's character as a "free spirit".
In ''Sonic Adventure 2'', Amy felt strongly that there was a chance for the world to be saved and that people were basically good (as she told [[Shadow the Hedgehog|Shadow]]). Amy is also a rather likable person. Despite her being slightly annoying, she has rarely met anyone who she did not befriend (including Shadow and [[Blaze the Cat|Blaze]]). Amy is a regular sweetheart, but with a strong sense of justice, and an over sweeping infatuation for Sonic.

  +
Amy looks up to Sonic and identifies herself as Sonic's "self-proclaimed girlfriend" despite Sonic appearing annoyed by her affections. During the [[Chaos]] [[Sonic Adventure|incident]], bored of her mundane city life, Amy resolved to become more independent to win over Sonic's heart and be a part of his adventures by the end of her tale, feeling she was something of a burden to him due to needing to be rescued time and time again. By the end of it, Amy even proclaimed she will be a greater hero than him one day and will get him to respect her. Even though he seems nervous and occasionally overwhelmed by her advances, Sonic at least considers Amy a good friend and worthy comrade and is always there to help her out should the need arise. Sonic's emotional neglect, for the most part, does not seem to hurt or deter Amy, as she believes he is merely hiding his feelings behind a facade, which has occasionally been implied to be the case.
Since 2010, after the release of ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]'', Amy seems to be more bossy and infatuated with Sonic than before. This is probably due to the reason that Sonic games since then were more light and humorous. Amy's personality has added more a humorous factor in games like ''[[Sonic Colors]]'', ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]'', and ''[[Sonic Generations]]'' with her obsession for Sonic, which causes her to say silly and embarrassing things that she does not find very embarrassing.

  +
During the [[Space Colony ARK]] [[Sonic Adventure 2|incident]], Amy goes to [[Prison Island]] on her own to free him. However, after he ran away upon being liberated, she commented on how he can be a "brat" sometimes in response to him leaving her behind. During the same incident, she also defended Sonic and believed him to be innocent. While Amy loves Sonic, she has shown on more than one occasion that she is not afraid to disagree with him if he does something she does not approve of. For example, during the Chaos incident, she stopped him from destroying Gamma, telling him that Gamma was her friend and he is not evil.

In the ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (comic series)|Sonic the Hedgehog]]'' comics by [[Archie Comics|Archie]], Amy is from the country of [[Mercia]] and has a cousin named [[Rob O' the Hedge]]—a reference to Robin Hood. As in other continuities, she has a crush on [[Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie character)|Sonic]]. In her earliest appearances, she attempted to become a member of the [[Freedom Fighters]], but was rejected because of her young age. She then made herself older by wishing on the [[Ring of Acorns]], but was still denied by [[Sally Acorn|Sally]] since she still had the mind of a younger girl. Eventually, however, Amy did advance enough to be accepted as a Freedom Fighter, and became an important member of the team.

  +
As of the [[Neo Metal Sonic]] [[Sonic Heroes|incident]], Amy had become significantly more aggressive and short-sighted about her infatuation and desire to prove herself to Sonic, win his heart, and prove herself as a hero. She challenged him, believing him to have kidnapped [[Froggy]] and [[Chocola]], and fought against him to impress him. Her hard-headedness and stubbornness proved to be her downfall however, not listening to Sonic when he said that he did not know what she was talking about, leading to him pretending to be defeated so he can run away. She later got furious when she realized that Neo Metal Sonic was responsible for framing him, blaming him for the misunderstanding between her and Sonic earlier in the adventure and cheering for Sonic to beat him.
{{Main|Amy Rose (Sonic X)}}

[[File:011amy.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Amy from the anime Sonic X.]]

Amy is one of the main characters in ''[[Sonic X]]'', an anime series which is the most recent of the [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|''Sonic the Hedgehog'']] TV shows. This is her first appearance in a Sonic TV series, as she did not appear in any of the other three American-produced series.

  +
During the [[Emerl]] [[Sonic Battle|incident]], Amy becomes enamored with "boxercise" as part of her arduous physical training to impress Sonic with her adamant dedication, which somewhat worked, but also worried him. At one point, she asked Tails about [[Emerl]], to which the fox explained that Emerl is like a child to Sonic. Amy took this literally and thought that Sonic wanted her to be Emerl's mother. Amy then took Emerl away and told him to call her his mother, thus making Emerl believe that Amy was actually his mother figure. Throughout the same incident, she also tried hard to protect Emerl after losing him to [[Rouge the Bat|Rouge]]. In the end, Amy tried to get Sonic to propose to her, but he promptly shivered at the thought and bailed.
In ''Sonic X'', Amy is [[Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic X)|Sonic's]] self-proclaimed girlfriend. Much the same as in the game series, her long-term goal is to get him to notice, love and respect her. She gets mad at Sonic's impatience and aloof attitude, which occasionally are so bad that she is driven to violence. However, she really does care about him and doesn't want him to get hurt. Likewise, Sonic seems closer and more comfortable with Amy in the anime, even going so far as to bring her flowers and say he cares for her in one episode. Amy also has romantic daydreams about her and Sonic. Overall, her personality is more temperamental than in the games; she may threaten or even harm her friends for things they had nothing to do with, but she still has the same kind heart that she possesses in the games.

After discovering that Sonic was killed, she kneeled down and cried into her hands. She later shed a tear when Sonic was brought back to life.

[[File:154px-Amykitching.jpg|thumb|right|150px|Amy's appearance in the UK Sonic the Comic.]]

Amy also appeared in the UK publication ''[[Sonic the Comic]]'', in which she was a level-headed and pragmatic member of the [[Freedom Fighters (Sonic the Comic)|Freedom Fighters]]—when she wasn't claiming to be [[Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic the Comic)|Sonic's]] girlfriend. She also became the leader of the team while Sonic was trapped in the [[Special Zone (Sonic the Comic)|Special Zone]]. She was close friends with [[Tekno the Canary]], and she used a crossbow in battle—rather than the [[Piko Piko Hammer]] that eventually became her trademark in the games.

  +
During [[Dodon Pa]]'s [[Team Sonic Racing|Grand Prix]], Amy rarely showed any romantic affection for him, while Sonic joins her in a picnic with [[Big the Cat|Big]] and [[Omochao]].
===''Sonic X (comics)''===

Amy Rose's role in the ''Sonic X'' comic is similar to hers in the ''[[Sonic X]]'' anime. In the comic book version, her relationship with Sonic is developed more closely, with Sonic even taking her on a date for Valentine's Day, although this was due to him having lost a bet with [[Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic X)|Knuckles]]. He seemed to enjoy himself, however, when Amy asked him if he would ever take her on a date again, Sonic answered "Er... Maybe?"

  +
Early on during the [[War to Take Back the Planet]], Amy showed great concern about Sonic and missed him, having stated that she had recurring dreams where Sonic was still with them, which made her hold out hope that he might still be alive. When Rouge revealed to them that Eggman merely took Sonic captive and was keeping him onboard the [[Death Egg]], she was shown to be highly relieved expressing contentment at her intuitions being true. She was later shown to be the happiest of all Resistance members (alongside Knuckles and later Tails) when she heard Sonic's voice on Knuckles' communicator while contacting the [[Avatar]].

A more mutually caring and affecitonate side of Sonic and Amy's relationship was seen during the [[Starfall Islands]] [[Sonic Frontiers|incident]], likely sparked by concern over Amy being partially trapped in [[Cyber Space]]. While exploring [[Kronos Island]], Sonic often went out of his way to help Amy care for the [[Koco]] inhabiting the island and reassure her that he would find a way to get her out of Cyber Space. When the two witnessed a flashback of a pair of Koco lovers they had helped reunite as Ancients just before their deaths, Sonic gently gave Amy time alone to mourn and checked in on her later. Amy confessed to Sonic that she believed in the power of everlasting love but that they would need to go their separate ways for a while so she could share it with more people, and Sonic replied that he believed in her and couldn't wait to hear all about her travels. After Sonic briefly succumbed to his cyber corruption, Amy sacrificed her physical form to save him alongside Tails and Knuckles, telling him that he had that kind of love in him as well. When Sonic returned from fighting [[The End]] in either ending, Amy immediately rushed up and hugged him while Sonic greeted Tails and Knuckles.
''[[Sonic Adventures]]'' was a two-volume, French-made comic book published by [[Sirène]], that was released in 1994. Amy appears in the first volume—"Sonic Adventures: Dans Les Griffes De Robotnik"—being kidnapped by Robotnik as bait to get Sonic. This version of Amy has the same design as in ''[[Sonic CD]]''.

However, the Starfall Islands incident also contains hints that Sonic may have begun reciprocating Amy's feelings to some degree as their friendship grew. In archived dialogue from ''Sonic Frontiers'', Sonic daydreamed about sharing an umbrella with Amy and lamented that he should have "made up his mind sooner" about her.<ref>Eurogamer - "[https://www.eurogamer.net/sonic-frontiers-cut-dialogue-suggests-he-may-love-amy-after-all Sonic Frontiers cut dialogue suggests he may love Amy after all]"</ref> While he has never admitted to his feelings otherwise, the possibility of Sonic liking Amy back was implied further during her [[The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog|birthday party]], at which Sonic bought Amy a cake with hearts on it and called her "radiant" while wishing her happy birthday.
==Abilities==

Amy possesses super speed. She is one of the few Speed Types that doesn't augment their speed with the use of a special object or power (i.e. [[Shadow]] uses his Hover Skates and Chaos Powers, Blaze uses her pyrokinesis and [[Fire Boost]], [[Jet the Hawk]] uses extreme gear and [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]] uses his twin tails). This, along with general sneakiness, allows her to be able to catch Sonic from time to time. In many games, such as ''[[Sonic Heroes]]'', she is usually one of the speed characters.

[[File:Amyspin.gif|thumb|left|Amy attacks using her [[Piko Piko Hammer]].]]

Amy's primary method of attack is her [[Piko Piko Hammer|Piko Piko Hammer,]] which she keeps in [[Hammerspace]]. With the Piko Piko Hammer, Amy can inflict major damage to her enemies. She is even capable of beating Knuckles with it. Amy is rather skillful with her hammer and is able to use it in a wide variety on moves and attacks, such as performing a somersault known as the [[Hammer Jump]]. She can also use it to perform the [[Tornado Jump|Tornado Hammer]], and a move called the [[Propeller Hammer]], to float through the air.

  +
===Cream the Rabbit===
Amy seems to possess some kind of super-human strength, as her Piko-Piko Hammer does look like it weighs quite a bit. On top of that, in ''Sonic Generations'', when she accidentally hits Knuckles, she hits him with enough force to send him flying backwards into a nearby tree, without even noticing.

  +
[[File:Amy_Cream_Cheese_SA3.png|thumb|100px|left|Amy and [[Cream the Rabbit|Cream]] are best friends, from ''[[Sonic Advance 3]]''.]]
  +
In earlier appearances, [[Cream the Rabbit]] and Amy shared a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. This fact is strengthened by the [[Gemerl]] [[Sonic Advance 3|incident]], as when they are paired together, they are given the title "Team Jubilee" and serve as a female counterpart to Sonic and Tails' "Unbreakable Bond." When Amy learns Cream's missing [[Chao]] [[Chocola]] is supposedly in the possession of Sonic the Hedgehog according to her clue, she insists on helping her find him and reunite him with his brother [[Cheese]]. Amy supports and encourages Cream when the latter gets scared and loses her resolve, helping her to continue their quest and to not lose hope. When [[Team Rose]] successfully gets Chocola back, her Chao cheer Amy's name in appreciation. Cream alerts Amy that Sonic is nearby, with Amy giving chase quickly afterward. The two are portrayed as best friends and also seem to frequent together almost completely throughout the [[Emerl]] [[Sonic Battle|incident]], except when Emerl drags one of them away. Amy is also seen searching for Cream within the [[Cryptic Castle]] during the [[Black Arms]] [[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|invasion]], which further suggests how much she cares for her.

  +
Cream will sometimes make innocent comments poking fun or putting into question Amy's fixation with Sonic. In [[Sonic Heroes]]. this gets Amy to glare at her and ''[[Sonic Rush]]'', when she pulls out her hammer, Cream saying "Not again!" in reaction. In some games, Cream is Amy's equivalent of Tails to Sonic, often helping Amy out or trying to get her out of bad situations like Amy's compulsion to push herself too far especially when aroused to anger.
In ''[[Sonic the Fighters]]'', Amy showed the ability to drop random items on the opponents' heads, from the mundane (e.g. soccer ball) to the weird (e.g. Bean's head). This later showed up again in [[Sonic Battle]] with her trap move.

  +
===Big the Cat===
In ''[[Sonic Adventure]]'' and ''[[Sonic Advance]]'', Amy lacked the [[Spin Jump]] and [[Spin Attack]], and instead could only perform a standard jump, a short leap, and a headbutt attack. Later games have since given her these abilities, allowing her to perform them similar to other characters.

  +
[[Big the Cat]] acts as an older brother figure to Amy and is most likely her other best friend. They form [[Team Rose]] and fight together during the [[Neo Metal Sonic]] [[Sonic Heroes|incident]]. Amy regularly encourages Big and helps lift his spirits when he loses hope in finding Froggy. As a result, Big develops a very protective disposition toward her and Cream, saying to himself he needs to toughen up in order to protect them. He shows hostility towards [[Team Chaotix]] because he believes them to be bullying her and Cream.

  +
===Miles "Tails" Prower===
In ''[[Sonic Adventure 2]]'', Amy is a playable character in 2-player mode. Unlike Sonic and Shadow, she cannot perform the [[Spin Dash]] in this game, and can only do a somersault with her hammer in her hand. Amy also grinds and boards a little bit faster then the others as well. As with all other characters in two player mode, Amy can perform special attacks when a certain amount of [[Rings]] have been acquired; if 10 rings are collected, she can speed up like Sonic and Shadow. If 20 rings are collected, she can use a special attack called "Storming Hearts", which is similar to Sonic's "Sonic Wind" attack and Shadow's "Chaos Spear" attack. If 30 rings are collected, Amy is able to stun her opponent with her "Amy Flash" attack which freezes the opponents' controls, leading them to fall into pits if done at the right time. Amy seems to have access to Hammerspace, as she is able to conjure a hammer out of nowhere and can summon more than one. <ref name="AmyFlash"> See [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0bjkYGrc2k this video] and go to 3:38. </ref>

  +
[[File:SA2 Tailamy.PNG|thumb|200px|left|Amy and [[Miles "Tails" Prower|Tails]], from ''[[Sonic Adventure 2]]''.]]
  +
For the most part, Amy and [[Miles "Tails" Prower]] have a good friendship, although he is aware of Amy's intense love for Sonic. Due to this, in games like ''[[Sonic Battle]]'' and ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]'', Tails has tried to help Sonic get away from Amy.

  +
The two are good enough friends for Amy to stand up for Tails as seen in ''[[Sonic Riders]]'' when Amy is defensive of Tails when [[Wave the Swallow|Wave]] made fun of him. Amy can be considered an older sister figure to Tails as she always supports him and encourages him when it's needed.
In ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)|Sonic '06]]'', it is revealed that Amy can turn [[Invisibility|invisible]]. The reason for this ability is unknown and Amy hasn't displayed further use of it since.

  +
===Knuckles the Echidna===
It is mentioned in the manual for ''[[Sonic CD]]'' that Amy can read tarot cards, which she uses in one of her POW moves in [[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood|''Sonic Chronicles'']], "Tarot Draw". This power was also mentioned in ''[[Sonic Battle]]'' when Amy says, "My cards told me you would be here" when Sonic asks her how she knew where he was.

  +
Amy and [[Knuckles the Echidna]] butt heads quite often or express general frustration with one another, but still overall seem to have a friendly relationship with one another.

In ''[[Sonic & the Black Knight]]'', Amy has a special move where she is able to whack her hammer into the ground and send out a dome-shaped energy wave called "Rose Typhoon".
+
In ''[[Sonic Advance]]'', Amy is exasperated and mocks the idea of Knuckles being tricked again by Eggman when encountering the disguised Mecha Knuckles.

  +
During the [[Neo Metal Sonic]] [[Sonic Heroes|incident]], when playing as Team Sonic, at the beginning of the fight against Team Rose, Knuckles will taunt Sonic about Amy saying, "''Are you playing with that girl's heart again, Sonic?''"
===POW Moves===

In ''[[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'', Amy possesses a wide range of POW moves that involves inflicting damage on the foe with extra effects, supporting her allies and inflicting status problems on the enemies. These are:

  +
In ''[[Sonic Rush]]'', Amy calls him a "dimwit" before stopping Knuckles from starting a fight with [[Blaze the Cat|Blaze]].
*{{Nihongo|'''Low Blow'''|ローブロー|Rō Burō}}: Amy jumps up and hits a foe with her Piko Piko Hammer, possibly rendering it vulnerable.

*{{Nihongo|'''Spin Cycle'''|スピンサイクル|Supin Saikuru}}: Cream lifts up Amy, then spins her around before throwing her at a group of enemies.

*{{Nihongo|'''Tantrum'''|ヒステリックブロー|Hisuterikku Burō|lit. ''Hysteric Blow''}}: Amy charges at an enemy, spinning like a tornado. This may render a foe sluggish.

*{{Nihongo|'''Blow Kiss'''|投げキッス|Nage Kissu}}: Amy blows a kiss to a friend, empowering the friend to do his or her best.

*{{Nihongo|'''Tarot Draw'''|タロットカード|Tarotto Kādo|lit. ''Tarot Cards''}}: Amy foresees the future with her tarot deck, cursing a single foe.

*{{Nihongo|'''Flower Power'''|フラワーパワー|Furawā Pawā}}: Big rushes forward and falls flat on his face. Cream then pushes Amy, who bounces off Big's back and lands, hammer first, on top of an enemy, stunning it.

  +
In ''[[Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity]]'', Amy budges in at the end of Knuckles' sentence, annoying the echidna. However, Knuckles is also seen protecting Amy and pulls her away and out of danger in the [[MeteorTech Premises]].
==Relationships==

===[[Sonic the Hedgehog]]===

Most of Amy's life (since ''[[Sonic CD]]'' onwards) is spent following Sonic the Hedgehog, whom she is madly in love with. While Sonic seems perturbed and annoyed by her affections, she has not given up and goes through great lengths to impress him. Even though he seems nervous and occasionally overcome by her advances, Sonic and Amy are still able to be good friends, even helping each other out if needed. Being rejected and ignored by Sonic does not seem to hurt Amy, in fact, she sees and treats Sonic as if he does love her too. Throughout the games, since their meeting, Amy has been chasing Sonic and tries to be romantic with [[Sonic|him]], which creeps him out and causes him to run away. However, it's implied that Sonic may not dislike her as much as he thinks.<ref name="SonicHeroesManual">''[[Sonic Heroes]]'' manual</ref>

  +
During the [[Sonic Free Riders|second]] [[World Grand Prix]], Knuckles calls her "exceptionally dense".
In ''[[Sonic Unleashed]]'', Sonic seemed depressed when Amy didn't recognize him as a [[Sonic the Werehog|Werehog]], understanding that he isn't the same at all in his Werehog form when Chip pointed it out. When she finds out the [[Werehog]] was Sonic, she wanted to know all about how it happened, and had even mentioned that Sonic looks better in the day time, but she doesn't care about that. In one point in the game, she asks Sonic out on a date and the player can choose whether Sonic accepts or declines it.

  +
During the [[Time Eater]] [[Sonic Generations|incident]], Amy accidentally hurts Knuckles with a great force (which causes him to crash into a tree), after he said that Sonic "wasn't half bad", whereas she thought he was "all great". However, Amy does not notice how hard she hit Knuckles because she was busy swooning over Sonic.
In ''[[Sonic Battle]]'', in Tails' story, Amy comes and asks Tails about [[Emerl]], and Tails explains that Emerl is like Sonic's "child". However, Emerl was just a friend of Sonic. Amy takes this literally and thinks that if [[Sonic]] is Emerl's "Daddy", he must want her to be the "Mommy", and that he is testing her to see if she could handle taking care of a real child. Amy then takes Emerl away and tells him to call her "Mommy", thus making Emerl believe that Amy is actually his mother. During her story she tries hard to protect Emerl after losing him to Rouge. At the end of her story, Amy tries to get Sonic to propose to her, but he bails. Amy assumes that Sonic simply got cold feet and none of the surrounding characters tell her the truth as they fear her anger.

  +
During the [[Lost Hex]] [[Sonic Lost World|incident]], they work separately from Sonic and Tails in saving the animals from Dr. Eggman, butting heads repeatedly to each other's annoyance.
In ''[[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'', Amy tries to make Sonic jealous by making up "her new boyfriend" named [[Dexter]]. The player can choose whether Sonic believes it or not. If so, she will tell him that Dexter is fake. The player can also engange in an optional romantic sub-plot between Sonic and Amy.

  +
During the [[War to Take Back the Planet]], they work together as part of the [[Resistance]]. Although they get along well in this game, Amy has to keep Knuckles in check at times, especially when Knuckles was more than willing to do the distraction at [[Green Hill]] himself, with Amy then saying that as the commander of the Resistance, he needs to stay at the [[Resistance HQ]].
In ''[[Sonic Riders]]'', Amy enters the EX World Grand Prix so she can be beside Sonic, though she becomes mad when Sonic accidentally launches her into a tornado when he had to save her from [[Dr. Eggman]] and forgot about her. After getting caught in the tornado, she chases Sonic with her Piko Piko Hammer as payback for forgetting about her, even though Sonic keeps trying to apologize to her.

  +
===Shadow the Hedgehog===
In ''[[Sonic and the Black Knight]]'''s ending, Sonic was explaining to Amy about his adventure in the Arthurian Legend. Amy wouldn't believe him and said, ''"That's the lamest excuse ever! You just forgot about our date!"'' Sonic tries to reason out saying that he swears that it was true, but Amy doesn't listen and pulls out her hammer. However, in ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]'', he quickly refuses going out on a date with her.

{{Quote left|I know that people fight over the most trivial things. Some people may be selfish, like the professor said, but they're basically good. Saving them is a good thing!|Amy Rose, ''[[Sonic Adventure 2]]''|file = QuotShadamy.ogg}}
  +
Amy and [[Shadow the Hedgehog]] appear to be on good terms, however, it didn't start in the best of ways. Amy first met Shadow during the [[Space Colony ARK]] [[Sonic Adventure 2|incident]] when she mistook him for Sonic. Later aboard the ARK, Amy met Shadow again and managed to convince him to save humanity. As Amy and [[Maria Robotnik|Maria]] have the same insight toward humanity, this might be one of the reasons Shadow is on neutral terms with her.

  +
During the [[Black Arms]] [[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|invasion]], Shadow can choose to assist Amy in helping find Cream and Cheese. At the end of [[Cryptic Castle]], Shadow benevolently advises her to be more careful. After the [[Black Comet]] was destroyed, Amy shows an amount of faith and admiration for Shadow, regardless of anything bad that may have happened.
In ''[[Sonic Generations]]'', Amy is excited to attend Sonic's birthday. However Sonic keeps Amy away from getting too close to him (such as hugging him) by placing his hand over her face while talking to Tails. When Classic Sonic rescues Amy, Amy mistook him for the present form of Sonic and questioned on how he looks so young, whereas when the present Sonic saves Amy, she tells Sonic that she was afraid that she would never be able to flirt with him again, leaving Sonic annoyingly exasperated. If Sonic gets an S rank in [[Chemical Plant (Sonic Generations)|Chemical Plant]], Amy will compliment that Sonic "knows how to get the girls" and when attaining a [[Red Star Ring]], Amy says that she mistook the ring for an actual ring, meaning that she thought Sonic was giving her a ring for a gift or other reasons.

  +
In ''[[The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog]]'', Shadow came to Amy's birthday party, and they even went to see a concert after the events of the game when Amy realized Shadow was trying to buy them tickets together as her gift. She reminisced on the concert fondly in the 7th [[Sonic Twitter Takeover|Twitter Takeover]], adding that she bought him a souvenir shirt in return.
A running gag involves Amy makes her entrance in a game by running into other hedgehogs from the left of the screen and hugging them from behind, mistaking them for Sonic. This may imply that she occasionally forgets that Sonic is blue.

===[[Cream the Rabbit]]===
+
===Rouge the Bat===
  +
[[File:RougeAmyEggman.PNG|thumb|225px|Amy with [[Rouge the Bat|Rouge]], from ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|Shadow the Hedgehog]]''.]]
Cream the Rabbit is Amy's best friend. Since ''Sonic Heroes'', Cream and Amy are portrayed as best friends and they share a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. This fact is strengthened by ''Sonic Advance 3'', as when they are paired together, they are given the title "Team Jubilee" and serve as a female counterpart to Sonic and Tails' "Unbreakable Bond." The two also seem to frequent together almost completely throughout ''[[Sonic Battle]]'', except when Emerl drags one of them away. Amy is also seen searching for Cream during the level Cryptic Castle in ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|Shadow the Hedgehog]]'' which further suggests how much she cares for her. Another suggestion is in ''Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood'' when you go to recruit Cream she says ''"You poor thing! What are you doing out here?"''.

  +
Amy and [[Rouge the Bat]] hardly interact, but clearly do not get along very well when they do. They only ever put up with each other usually because Sonic and Shadow work together on occasion. When they [[Sonic Adventure 2|first met]] on [[Prison Island]], Amy and Rouge were enemies, as the latter had been working with Shadow and Eggman, but they became allies towards the end in order to save [[Earth]]. During the [[Emerl]] [[Sonic Battle|incident]], they fight several times over Emerl. When Amy called Rouge's house a "dump", Rouge was furious with Amy's comment and the two fought over an [[Emerald Shard]]. During the [[Sonic Free Riders|second]] [[World Grand Prix]], Amy appeared disgusted by Rouge's lack of empathy for [[E-10000B]] when he was breaking down and her refusal to allow him to rest.

  +
The two have seemed to get along with each other in certain circumstances like in the [[Black Arms]] [[Shadow the Hedgehog (game)|invasion]] and the [[War to Take Back the Planet]], but this may be because of the high stakes portrayed in both games.
In ''[[Sonic Rush]]'', it is implied that Amy occasionally gets angry with Cream, angry enough to chase her with her hammer as Cream shouted ''"Not again!"'' after she said that Amy was "shortsighted" in the regard of her love of Sonic when Cream introduced Blaze to Amy.

  +
===Dr. Eggman===
The two team up twice in ''[[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'' for the moves '''Spin Cycle''', the equivalent of Sonic and Tails' '''Blue Bomber''' move in which Cream lifts Amy up and sends her spinning into one enemy, as well damaging adjacent ones. Team Rose band together to perform '''Flower Power''', their most potent attack in this game which involves Amy bouncing off Big with a boost from Cream and landing on a foe hammer-first.

  +
{{Quote left|Eggman, are you up to no good again?!|Amy Rose, ''[[Sonic Heroes]]''|file=Amy&Eggman.ogg}}
  +
Amy may know much about [[Doctor Eggman|Dr. Eggman]], but the scientist himself doesn't know about her. On the rare occasions they interacted, the doctor merely found her to be an easy pawn in his plans, using her to manipulate Sonic to ensure her safety. This extended to the Eggman persona used by [[Neo Metal Sonic]], that found Team Rose to be an eyesore and condescendingly treated them like children. In the [[Space Colony ARK]], Eggman held her at gunpoint as his hostage, until Tails saved Amy from the scientist, although he got the real seventh [[Chaos Emerald]]. By the time of the [[Starfall Islands]] [[Sonic Frontiers|incident]], however, the villain would acknowledge her as a clever, tenacious girl that has grown from her earlier days as an easy victim. He nevertheless thought she had potentially incapable to reach if she kept following Sonic.

  +
===Metal Sonic===
In recent games such as Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations, Amy seems to be distancing herself from Cream. She is often seen around other characters, such as Blaze, but she still remains close to Amy, as evidenced by Sonic Free Riders, but not quite as a sidekick.

  +
{{Quote left|You're the one pretending to be Sonic! You're the one responsible for taking [[Froggy]], and [[Chocola]]!|Amy Rose, ''[[Sonic Heroes]]''|file=Amy&MetalSonic.ogg}}
  +
[[Metal Sonic]] is Amy's first ever kidnapper, during the [[Little Planet]] [[Sonic the Hedgehog CD|incident]], until the real Sonic rescued her from Metal and Robotnik. But the [[Sonic Heroes|next time]] they met, Amy realized Metal Sonic betrayed Eggman pretending to be Sonic, and kidnapped [[Froggy]], Big's friend, and [[Chocola]], [[Cheese]]'s brother, and her [[Team Rose|team]] along with Teams [[Team Chaotix|Chaotix]], and [[Team Dark|Dark]] fought [[Metal Madness]], before [[Team Sonic|Team Super Sonic]] fought [[Metal Overlord]].

===[[Big the Cat]]===
+
===Vector the Crocodile===
  +
{{Quote left|Okay, that's enough! I'll have you know our team has only one useless kid on it!|Amy Rose, ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]''}}
Big the Cat is most likely Amy's other best friend. They fight together in ''[[Sonic Heroes]]'', forming Team Rose. In ''[[Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood]]'' after meeting Big in the Mystic Ruins, Big states that he "heard his good friend Amy Rose" so he rushed over to see if it was really her. When Big sees Amy he becomes ecstatic and actually makes an attempt to hug her (in which Amy refuses due to the fact that he smelled from the gases in the ruins). Also, if you agree to let Big join your party he, again, becomes happy that he gets to be around Amy. Big acts like an older brother to Amy.

  +
Amy and [[Vector the Crocodile]], at first, did not seem to get along with each other in the slightest in the first few times they interacted with each other.

  +
Amy and Vector first encountered each other during the [[Neo Metal Sonic]] [[Sonic Heroes|incident]]. When Team Chaotix saw Team Rose, Vector wanted to ask Amy a question. Amy, believing him to be trying to make a pass at her, blows him off which irritates Vector and results in conflict.
===[[Miles "Tails" Prower]]===

Miles "Tails" Prower is a lot like a little brother figure to Amy. Sometimes, she's bossy with him and many other times, she is protective and defensive of Tails, although Amy will sometimes use Tails' close connections with Sonic to find out his whereabouts and/or some current events. Nonetheless, Amy and Tails are very good friends. Although Cream is Amy's best friend, Tails and Sonic are the two people Amy is around the most because Amy is always chasing after Sonic and Tails is always with Sonic on adventures. Amy and Tails are really close because of this and always try to do their best to stop Eggman with Sonic.

  +
The next time the two were seen together was in ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]''. Vector joined Amy's team along with Cream to win the prize money Eggman advertised about his Grand Prix. Vector and Amy do not seem to get along. At first, Amy blames Vector for not getting them registered for the race even when he claimed that it was not his fault as she invited him to her team 30 minutes ago. Also, when Amy pretends that she was not expecting her and Sonic in the Grand Prix (because she wanted to prove that "lovers" are drawn together), Vector disapproves of her by calling her a "terrible actress". Amy also appears to yell at Vector and boss him around, something she does not do to Cream throughout the game, even though Cream is also a member of the team. Due to this, Vector is often annoyed by Amy's overbearing and domineering personality.
The only time their friendship was slightly strained was in ''[[Sonic Battle]]'', when Amy caught Sonic off guard. When Sonic and Tails were talking they could hear Amy scream "SONIC" off in the distance. Sonic hesitated and told Tails to deal with Amy. When Amy approached she got annoyed by how Sonic had abandoned Tails so he could get away. She demanded that Tails tell her where Sonic went but Tails told her honestly that he had no idea where Sonic could have run off to since he never told him.

  +
During the [[War to Take Back the Planet]], Amy and Vector worked alongside each other in the [[Resistance]] to defend the world from Dr. Eggman, although they never properly interact. Though, it can be assumed that they're better friends with each other nowadays and seem to get along more than they used to. And despite their differences, Amy and Vector seem to hold some respect for each other. Amy appreciates Vector's reliability as a detective for hire, shown in ''[[Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games]]'' when she first turned to him for help after finding out a trap was being prepared for Sonic.
===[[Knuckles the Echidna]]===

Amy has only been seen interacting with [[Knuckles the Echidna]] on rare occasions.

  +
===Silver the Hedgehog===
In ''[[Sonic Heroes]]'' when playing as Team Sonic; at the beginning of the fight against Team Rose, Knuckles will side with Amy and say "Have you been messing with that girl's heart again Sonic?"

  +
During the [[Solaris]] [[Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)|incident]], Amy mistook [[Silver the Hedgehog]] for Sonic. Amy, not knowing who Silver was looking for and why, insisted on them looking for their respective persons together. Unable to deny her offer, Silver was dragged along with Amy unwillingly for a while, and found her to be a distraction, while Amy became his friend and promised to help him find the "Iblis Trigger". Eventually, though, Silver's helpful nature kicked in and he set aside his quest momentarily to help her search through Dusty Desert.

  +
Silver's alliance with Amy ended up being only temporary, which ended once Silver found Sonic and tried to kill him. When Amy found out that Silver intended to kill Sonic, she turns on him and criticizes his actions. Despite this, when they meet again after Sonic dies and Mephiles and Iblis fuse, she doesn't seem to bear any particular malice towards him for his past actions. Because of what happens at the end of the game, Amy and Silver met in a different way (though how is unknown).
In ''Sonic Rush'', when Amy interacted with Blaze for the second time Knuckles rushes in, and says to Blaze, ''"Hey, cat woman, it's payback time!"'', Amy then says, ''"Uh-oh! What did you do to him!?"'' Cream tells Amy that it's a misunderstanding, with which Amy replies with "pretty typical of Knuckles". To get Knuckles to leave Blaze alone, Amy calls Knuckles a dimwit, leading to a brief argument. Knuckles replies, "I don't have time for you! I have business with that cat woman!". Amy then taunts Knuckles and says, ''"I know! That's why I called you a d-",'' daring herself that she'll call him a dimwit again, Knuckles then gets outraged and goes hot on Amy, leaving Blaze alone.

  +
During the [[War to Take Back the Planet]], Amy and Silver worked alongside each other in the [[Resistance]] to defend the world from Dr. Eggman, although they never properly interact.
In ''[[Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity]],'' Amy budges in Knuckles' sentence in the end which caused Knuckles to be annoyed.

  +
===Birdie===
In ''[[Sonic Generations]],'' Amy accidentally hurts Knuckles with a great force (which causes him to crash into a tree) after saying that Sonic "wasn't half bad" whereas she thought he was "all great". However, Amy does not notice how hard she hit Knuckles because she was busy swooning at Sonic.

  +
Amy was friendly to [[Birdie]], as she protected him from [[E-100 ZERO]] and helped him to find his family. She was happy when Birdie reunited with his siblings.

===[[Shadow the Hedgehog]]===

===E-102 Gamma===

{{Quote left|You're really nice. You're different from the other robots. You've got a soft spot inside your metal frame. If you want, we can be friends, okay?|Amy Rose, ''[[Sonic Adventure]]''|file = QuotAmy&Gamma.ogg}}
In ''[[Sonic Adventure 2]]'', they interact twice, but each time, Amy seems to gain an odd reaction from Shadow.

  +
[[File:S ev021.png|thumb|right|Amy protecting Gamma from Sonic, from ''[[Sonic Adventure]]''.]]
  +
Although initially hostile to each other, Amy and [[E-102 Gamma]] eventually form a friendship, with Amy being the reason for Gamma reforming and turning against Dr. Eggman.

  +
After Amy was captured by Eggman during the [[Chaos]] [[Sonic Adventure|incident]], Gamma approaches Amy in her cell and demands to hand over the bird, but Amy refuses because she cares for Birdie. This confuses Gamma, who does not understand emotions, and how she can become attached to something she hardly knows, which causes Amy to feel sympathy for him and the other Eggman robots as a whole because they are not programmed to feel emotions. Gamma then decides to free Amy from her cell. Later on, when Sonic and Gamma are battling, Amy stops them because she believes Gamma is good and is her friend, asking Sonic not to hurt Gamma and insisting he is different. This act causes Gamma to decide to turn against Eggman and free the [[animals]] within the other [[E-Series#E-100 series|E-100 Series]] robots.
Amy first meets Shadow when she mistakes him for Sonic and hugs him from behind. Shadow remains still after having been caught off guard by her ambush, and does not shake her off or retort with violence. When Amy senses the lack of a reaction, she releases him, causing him to glance back at her. Amy demands his name when she realizes that he is not Sonic, but he continues to watch her quietly. After Amy notices [[Doctor Eggman|Dr. Eggman]], she also realizes the mistake she's made, and runs off screaming. During this, Shadow takes a step after her, until Dr. Eggman tells the team that he'll take care of Amy.

  +
===Princess Elise===
Later in the game aboard the ARK, Amy meets [[Shadow]] again and this time does her part in helping by begging Shadow to save the world. At first, Shadow simply replies, strangely in a non-threatening way, that it is pointless, but then Amy points out that despite people sometimes being selfish, they were still inwardly good and that saving them was right. Because of this, Shadow suddenly has a flashback of Maria begging Shadow to make people happy. When Shadow comes to his senses he goes off to fight the Biolizard, upliftingly and softly telling Amy that he has to keep his promise to Maria and her.

  +

  +
[[Princess Elise the Third|Princess Elise]] was a good friend of Amy's. Amy rescued her from Eggman's base and then escorted and saved her from the robots that were chasing her. Amy gave Elise some advice on love and told her that she had a good chance with Sonic, though she did not know that Elise cared for Sonic as well, saying, "''You're a Princess and you're super-cute. That guy's the lucky one''." Amy also comforted her in the Last Story of the game.

  +
===Trip the Sungazer===
Amy was also the only one to see Shadow's tear after he remembered [[Maria]]'s promise, making her the only person to see him cry in ''Sonic Adventure 2''. Amy and Maria have the same insight towards humanity, thus this might be one of the reasons Shadow is nice to her, since it's unknown whether or not Shadow remembers Amy's deed in ARK.

At [[Lagoon City Zone|Lagoon City]] during the [[Northstar Islands]] [[Sonic Superstars|Incident]], Amy Rose found a distressful and crying [[Trip the Sungazer]], who quickly becomes afraid of Amy, only to realize that Amy was trying to help her. After helping Trip on getting out from the trap, Amy and Trip built a friendship together, with Amy giving an apple to Trip, an act of kindness that causes Trip to be overjoyed. Amy seems to care a lot for Trip, even after the time of the [[Northstar Islands]] [[Sonic Superstars|incident]], as said in [[TailsTube No. 5 (Remember When?)|TailsTube #5]] when she hinted that she would invite Trip for the next TailsTube episode celebrating the anniversary of the Northstar Islands adventure.

Depending on what story you're playing under, if you're running through gameplay on the hero selection or if you just decide to help her at all on any level, at the end of stage, Shadow benevolently advises, ''"If you wanna stay clear of trouble, then stay away from that Doctor."'' During this stage level there is a route to an unlockable cut scene that is titled, "The Miracle of Love" if you allow Shadow to comply to Amy's plea to save the world in the end, which changes the story from dark to hero story, as listed under the, "Unlockable Stage Levels" in the Game Guide Cheat Sheet sources, as well as cut scenes.

Amy and Vector first encountered each other in ''[[Sonic Heroes]]''. When the Chaotix saw Team Rose. Vector wanted to ask Amy a question, Amy walked away and said, ''"If it's about a date, it'll have to wait!"'', Vector sparked with anger as he was not going to ask her that. So, then due to a few misunderstandings, the two teams fought against each other.

The second time the two were seen together was in ''[[Sonic Free Riders]]''. Also, when Amy pretends that she wasn't expecting her and Sonic in the Grand Prix (because she wanted to prove that "lovers" are drawn together) Vector disapproves her by calling her a "terrible actress". Amy also appears to yell at Vector and boss him around, something she doesn't do to Cream throughout the game, even though Cream is also a member of the team.

A ''Games Radar ''article called Amy's introduction "the only bitter taste" in ''[[Sonic CD]]'', but added that she's "just a pink hedgehog here and not a whiny, annoying brat like in ''Sonic Adventure''." <ref name="Radar rereview"> {{cite web |author=Justin Towell

==Trivia==

*In the original release of ''[[Sonic CD]]'' in America, Amy was referred to as "Princess Sally" in the game manual, possibly to connect her to the [[Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series)|''Sonic'' animated television series]] released that same year. However, the Sally that showed up in the cartoons [[Sally Acorn|was not Amy]]. Subsequent re-releases of ''Sonic CD'' jettison any references to Amy being named Sally. Interestingly, she was always clearly stated as "Amy Rose" in the Japanese manual for ''Sonic CD''.

[[File:Sonicriders58slugdrones.png|thumb|The original designs for ''Sonic Riders''.]]

*Amy's concept outfit for ''[[Sonic Riders]]'' has her arms and hands miscolored pink.

*Amy has always called her [[Piko Piko Hammer]] just "my hammer", but in her co-op mission in ''Sonic Generations'' she calls it "my Piko Piko Hammer" being the first time she has called it by its full name, and the first time it has ever been called its full name correctly. (In ''Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing'' the [[Announcer (Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing)|Announcer]] calls it "The Piko Hammer".)

*Amy's bio in ''Sonic Chronicles'' calls her Amy Rose the Hedgehog.

*Amy was the first female character introduced in the game series as well as the only female hedgehog of the series.

*In ''[[Sonic Chronicles]]'', Amy is the strongest character in terms of Smash ability, being the only character who can reach level 3. ([[Knuckles]] and [[E-123 Omega]] can only reach level 2 Smash ability.)

*Amy apparently has the power to turn invisible, although the only game she has actively used this power in was ''[[Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)|Sonic '06]]''. After that game's timeline was erased, she didn't turn invisible again until ''[[Sonic and the Black Knight]]'', as [[Nimue]].

*Amy Rose is the only member of [[Team Rose]] that is affected by the brainwashing of the Overmind [[Voxai]] in ''[[Sonic Chronicles]]''.

[[File:Amy 4.png|thumb|98px|Amy in ''Sonic the Fighters'' with her Piko Piko Hammer]]

*In ''[[Sonic R]]'', Amy is one of two characters who races in a vehicle rather than on foot. The other is [[Doctor Eggman|Doctor Robotnik]].

*In ''[[Sonic the Fighters]]'', Amy's Piko Piko Hammer looks different from the one that is shown in the more recent games, probably due to the fact that it was the hammer's first appearance.

*In ''[[Sonic Riders]]'', Amy sports a different, racing outfit throughout the game, but in ''[[Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity]]'', Amy wears her usual dress in the story cutscenes and in the story level where she races Storm. However, in the Single and Multiplayer modes, she wears the same outfit that she wore in ''Sonic Riders''.

*Amy is the only playable character in ''Sonic 2006'' to not travel to the future at any time during the game.

*Amy is one of the few characters in ''Sonic Unleashed'' who is not affected by the negative effects of Dark Gaia spreading over the planet.

*Amy is the only character that appeared in ''Sonic Rivals'' that didn't appear in ''[[Sonic Rivals 2]]''.

*In the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of ''Sonic Unleashed'', Sonic makes a reference to Amy after defeating the [[Dark Guardian]] in [[Shamar]], when he says, "''I know little girls who are better with a hammer than you! Well, one anyway.''"

*Ironically, in ''[[Sonic Chronicles]]'', despite being the speed leader of [[Team Rose]], Amy's attack is slower than other speed leaders like Sonic and Shadow. She is also the strongest attacker of her team, despite [[Big]] being the power leader.

*In the DS version of ''Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing'', Amy's character and vehicle selection picture shows her car with ears and head mirrors. However, while racing as her, they aren't shown.

*Strangely, Amy appears in the French guide for ''Sonic & Knuckles'', even though she makes no appearance whatsoever in the game. In that guide, it was said that Amy had been kidnapped by Knuckles.

*Shadow's [[Inhibitor rings]] look similar to Amy's ring-cuffed gloves.

*Although she does not have her own video game like many of the other main characters, Amy does have her own mobile game called ''[[Amy's American Page One]]'' for ''[[Sonic Cafe]].''

*Amy is the only hedgehog not to have a super form.

*All of the cars Amy has driven in racing games have been old-fashioned convertibles, similar to how Sonic has driven sports cars and how Knuckles drives off-roaders.

*Amy's last name, ''Rose'', can be considered a play on words. A rose is a very beautiful flower that is connected with love, but has sharp thorns on it as well. This can be related to her connection to love and her short fiery temper but it is also a play on her color as well, because in French, ''rose'' translates to pink, her fur color.

*In the ''Mario and Sonic'' series, Amy is the only playable female who is not a princess.

*Like Blaze, Amy is a speed type character in the normal series, but in the ''Mario and Sonic'' series she is an All-Around type instead.

*Amy Rose was the alias Lisa Ortiz (Amy's ''Sonic X'' voice actress) was credited as for her voice role of March and Salsa from the game ''Eternal Sonata''.

*With the release of "Episode Metal", Amy is the only major character from the Classic games who is still around and who has yet to get her own game.

*Amy Rose is one of four characters to appear in every ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series racing game to date.

I'm not sure what happened, but I know what I saw: a love that transcended time. I believe in that power. When this is over, I want to share that love with the world. Even though... it may take us far apart.

— Amy Rose, Sonic Frontiers

Amy Rose (エミー・ローズ Emī Rōzu?) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with a crush on Sonic the Hedgehog. Since meeting Sonic on Little Planet, Amy has declared herself his girlfriend and has attempted to win his heart by any means in many of their adventures. She wields the Piko Piko Hammer, which she uses with skills second to none and never leaves home without.[15]

Concept and creation

Amy CD concept 1 colored

Amy's finalized design, by Kazuyuki Hoshino.

Amy Rose was created in response to a request from the character division of Sega's licensing business, who wanted a character that could be the "Minnie" to Sonic's "Mickey".[16] However, it was felt at the time that it would 'go against Sonic's personality' for him to be locked into a standard cartoon relationship like Mickey and Minnie. Instead, it was decided that a one-way relationship, where Amy's affection for Sonic is unrequited, would be more interesting.[17]

Naoto Ohshima created the original character design,[1][18] which was then finalized by Kazuyuki Hoshino.[2][3] According to Hoshino, there were many voices involved in the creation of the character, including staff members from various departments[19] and editors of the then-upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog manga series.[17] Amy's hairband and trainers reflect Naoto Ohshima's taste, while her mannerisms reflect the kind of traits Kazuyuki Hoshino looked for in women at the time.[19]

Although Amy was originally created as a character for the video game series,[20] she first appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga and The Adventures of SONIC the Hedgehog series, both published by Shogakukan. The series began in the April 1992 issues[note 1] of Shogaku Ninensei, Shogaku Sannensei, Shogaku Yonensei, Shogaku Gonensei and Shogaku Rokunensei. The manga series would later feature in Shogaku Ichinensei and Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special.

The manga series had various writers and artists, working from a story concept created by Kenji Terada, who wrote the illustrated stories in Shogaku Yonensei. In these series, Amy is the girlfriend of Nicky, a nerdy young male hedgehog with the power to transform into the superhero, Sonic the Hedgehog. Amy is also the target of the bully Anton Veruca. In the stories illustrated by Sango Morimoto, she had a very different design - most notably, she was brown rather than pink and her spines were styled into a ponytail. She is simply known as Amy throughout most of the series, with her surname "Rose" not being mentioned until later issues of Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special, released after the Sonic the Hedgehog CD video game.

Amy Rose made her video game debut in 1993's Sonic the Hedgehog CD, as a non-playable character. In this game, she is an 8-year-old hedgehog girl kidnapped by the new antagonist, Metal Sonic. In the Japanese release, she was primarily known by her nickname Rosy the Rascal, although it is still stated that her real name is "Amy Rose". In the U.S. manual of Sonic CD, Amy is referred to as Princess Sally, likely to connect her with a character who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series released in 1993. She later appeared as a playable character in several ensemble spin-off games such as Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic the Fighters and Sonic R. She rarely appeared in contemporaneous TV series and books, although she was included in many of the comic series at the time.

When Sonic Team reunited and started work on their three-dimensional follow-up to the classic Sonic games, Sonic Adventure, it was decided they would give her a starring role in the game. Like the rest of the returning cast, Amy was given an updated design by Yuji Uekawa. While Sonic, Tails and Knuckles all received minor design changes, Amy's clothing and hairstyle were completely revamped. She also had her entire figure redesigned to make her appear older. In addition to her redesign, her official age was changed from 8 to 12.

Appearance

Amy is a pink-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with bright green eyes and peach skin covering her muzzle, inner ears, and arms. She has a small black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She also has two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also has three spikes for bangs on her head and a short pointy tail.

For attire, Amy wears a red sleeveless and backless dress with two white trims and a white petticoat underneath, tall red boots with a white stripe down the center, white cuffs and gray soles with chunky heels, a red hairband, and white wrist-length gloves with gold bracelets for cuffs.

At one point in her young lifestyle, she wears the red dressing and red boots similar to what she would normally wearing.

On special occasions, Amy has worn different outfits:

  • For Extreme Gear competitions, Amy wears a white and rose dress-like tank top; rose sweatpants with a white stripe on each side; white wrist-length gloves with visible seams, along with red wristbands with a single yellow stripe in the middle; and red sport shoes with white stripes, white shoelaces caught on yellow triangular-hooked eyelets, and gray soles. She also retains her standard hairband.
  • During the Olympic Games, Amy has worn a number of different outfits depending on the event and the environments she faces:
    • For regular sporting events in the summer, she wears a rose mini dress similar to her normal dress, but with white shoulder straps, with the addition of black shorts underneath it; and rose sports shoes with white stripes, white cuffs, white shoelaces caught on yellow triangular hooked eyelets, and gray soles. She also wears white wrist-length gloves along with rose wristbands with a single white stripe and retains her standard hairband.
    • For winter and equestrian events, she wears a rose parka dress, also similar to her normal dress, but with a pink collar and two dark pink drawstrings hanging from it, with white pom-poms decorating them at the ends; black tights, white wrist-length gloves with pink cuffs at the wrists with a single rose stripe in the middle and rose and white-zipped boots with yellow detailing and pink and rose cuffs. She also wears her standard hairband.
    • For swimming and gymnastic events, she wears a red sleeveless one-piece swimsuit with two white trims, a white-rimmed skirt with a red trim, and red flats. She also wears her standard hairband, gloves, and bracelets.
  • During an incident involving Puyo Puyos, Amy wore a red Puyo Puyo cap; a pink, sleeveless hoodie with a cyan stripe down the middle, and a yellow, flower-shaped button at the top; emerald green wristbands; yellow shorts with pink hearts and a crimson belt; long, purple socks; tall, crimson boots with a stripe of the same color down the center, and white soles. Her outfit closely resembles the protagonist of Puyo Puyo Fever, Amitie.
  • Once, Amy wore a Gothic-styled outfit that consisted of a black and white hat with two ribbons; black gloves with dark gray and white cuffs; a black and white-rimmed dress adorned with white buttons, black ribbons, and two dark gray buns; and black shoes.
  • Once, Amy wore a baseball player-esque outfit that consisted of a red and white cap; a red and white baseball jersey with white short sleeves, and the text "Amy Rose" written in a black font along with the number "93", and red buttons; red and white baseball gloves; white pants with red stripes down the sides; red socks; and red shoes with white stripes, no shoelaces, and light-gray soles.
  • Once, Amy wore a winter holiday-themed outfit that included a green bow on her head; a red, short-sleeved button-down shirt with yellow trimming and buttons; a green overall dress similar to her usual dress, with yellow buttons and embroidered patterns, an embroidered candy cane, and a white, woolly trim; white gloves with white, woolly wrist cuffs; white and red striped stockings; green boots with white, woolly cuffs, red ribbons that have red laces with white, woolly pom-poms at the ends, and black and yellow soles.
  • Once, Amy wore a knight-themed outfit, with primarily silver and red armor plating, a gold and cyan necklace with a red jewel encased in gold attached, red and gold shoulder pads, white, yellow, and scarlet elbow-high gloves with silver and gold block-like cuffs, white boots, with gold accents and dark pink soles, a white and dark red skirt, a V-shaped gold and silver plate of armor on her brow that has a red jewel in the middle, white and gold armor on her ears, red, silver, and gold feather-shaped armor on either side of her head, and a small silver helmet running from the top to the back of her head. She also wields a gold, red, white, and silver hexagonal-shaped hammer.
  • Once and in a Valentine's Day artwork, Amy wore a chef-themed outfit, which consisted of her wearing a red headscarf, a white shirt with frills at the sleeves under a scarlet apron with white frills at the end of the skirt and a white heart in the center, and scarlet boots with gray soles, white cuffs with a frilly design, and a small black stripe running down the middle of each. She also wore her standard gloves and bracelets.
  • Once, Amy wore a swimsuit identical to the swimsuit she wears in Sonic X, which consisted of a matching red bikini top and skirt with yellow hearts patterned all over them, white wrist-length gloves with small, gold bracelets for cuffs, a red hairband with yellow hearts on either side of her head, and red slip-on shoes with green and purple stripes going across them and yellow hearts on the outside of either shoe.
  • During the Paradox Prism saga, Amy wore a slightly different version of her normal red dress which covered her entire back, shoulders, and upper legs, in addition to sporting white-trimmed armholes.
  • In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Amy wore a maroon ankle-length evening gown with a gold waistband.

Personality

To the confident, unshakable, and radiant Amy Rose!

Sonic the Hedgehog, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
Amy profile SG

Amy's profile, from the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Generations.

Bold and fearless,[21] Amy is a proactive go-getter that goes after what she wants and lets nothing get in her way. As early as the first Little Planet incident, Amy was shown to possess a proactive streak. When she had just her tarot cards to go by back then, she made her way to Little Planet when her tarot cards told her that she had a "destined encounter" on the small satellite. Likewise, she is an intuitive activist, which usually means she acts before thinking things through.[22]

Amy is described as an "energetic tomboy",[5] though by the time of the Chaos incident, she is shown to have traditional feminine interests nonetheless, such as shopping and fashion.[8] Despite her assertiveness though, it has not come at the expense of her sense of femininity. Amy also hates boredom and loves thrills and excitement; during her time in Station Square, she found her mundane city life dull and longed for the exhilaration of being a part of Sonic's adventures.

Amy is very open and expressive about her feelings and emotions, always speaking her mind and never letting her feelings get bottled up inside.[23] As such, Amy can be quite obsessive and aggressive, especially when it comes to her infatuations with Sonic. When angered, she has a habit of pulling out and threatening others with her Piko Piko Hammer, especially when anyone crosses her or hurts people she cares about.

Originally, Amy was barely able to take care of herself when in dangerous situations. As such, she was ultimately a damsel-in-distress figure who needed Sonic to save her. Recognizing this, she eventually started chasing after her hero, and gradually "grew" into a tenacious and more proactive girl, who is as active and strong as Sonic.[24]

During the Emerl incident, she developed a fascination with "boxercise" playing to both elements of her personality. The exercise helped her lose weight to maintain her girlish figure, and the boxing helped her train when she is forced to fight. She also had shown a very powerful and aggressive attitude, willing to fight whenever necessary to help and protect those she cares about.

Amy has a kind heart and never gives up, having a strong belief in fate and destiny. Her faith in her tarot cards led her to the fated encounter that brought Sonic into her life, and, during the Emerl incident, she showed such faith in her tarot cards that she insisted that Sonic would be at Tails' place on their reading outcome alone. Amy regularly talks about the power of love and true love and strongly believes in the merit of dreams and wishes.

Amy is also an optimist,[5] and is usually very cheerful and possesses a positive outlook on life. She is always full of hope and is always cheering on for the good side of things. Notably, she rarely seems to find anything hopeless, as shown during the Chaos incident, where she was determined to help Birdie, who had lost his family. This cheerfulness likewise makes her the driving force of her team.[22]

She similarly defended E-102 Gamma from Sonic when the latter tried to destroy him after motivating Gamma to rebel against Eggman. Similarly, during the Space Colony ARK incident, she reached out to Shadow, pleading to him by telling him that as selfish as humanity was, they deserved a chance to be happy. Likewise, during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, Amy raised Cream and Big's spirits whenever they lost hope about finding their friends. When it comes down to it, Amy is a likable person and has rarely met anyone she did not befriend.

She is also quite impulsive, as her feelings for Sonic have led her to do things without thinking about them.

Powers and abilities

AmySlapsKnuckles

Amy knocking Knuckles away with a slap, from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.

Said to be both graceful and powerful at the same time,[25][26] Amy is stronger than most give her credit for.[25] Notably, it has been said that her activity can put even men to shame.[4] With her tools and skills by her side, she is a formidable foe and a valuable member of Sonic's team who can go up against powerful robots, like E-100 ZERO, on her own.[25][27] Thanks to her occasional training, she is growing progressively stronger as well.[28] However, she is still no match for highly trained individuals like Rouge.[29]

While not superhuman, Amy possesses above-average physical attributes. She has high physical strength, enough to let her carry her extra heavy, tremor-inducing Piko Piko Hammer around with no effort,[30] send opponents flying with a single swing of her Piko Piko Hammer, or propel herself upward by hammering into the ground. On top of that, she once slapped Knuckles with enough force to send him flying into a tree without even trying.[31] Amy also has excellent running skills that stem from all the time she has spent chasing after Sonic.[32] While her top speed is not clear, she is at least able to move at super speeds, being fast enough to create after-images of herself, scale vertical surfaces and ceilings, and keep up with Sonic's mundane running speed.[33] However, she has admitted that she is not as fast as Sonic.[34] Amy likewise has impressive durability, being able to go through atmospheric re-entry and then land on the ground unharmed.[35] She also has sharp reflexes, agility, and acrobatic skills, enough to let her do special tricks and movements while in mid-air, pull off various graceful maneuvers with her Piko Piko Hammer at high speed without it affecting her movements, and grind along rails with ease. In addition, thanks to her indomitable spirit and persistence, Amy has impressive stamina, being able to push herself to the absolute limit of her endurance before succumbing to exhaustion.[29]

Sonicheroes-3

Amy creating a tornado with her hammer, from Sonic Heroes.

Amy is highly proficient in wielding her trademark Piko Piko Hammer, having been stated to be second to none when in control of it.[36] With it, she is capable of destructive blows that can smash through robot armor or perform enhanced leaps. Using her Piko Piko Hammer, Amy can even pull off incredible, physics-defying feats, such as sustaining temporary flight by spinning her Piko Piko Hammer around like a propeller, stirring up tornado effects by swinging her Piko Piko Hammer around, execute mid-air jumps by setting off from hits in mid-air with her hammer, launch powerful shockwaves with a single swing, or create expanding domes of energy.

Amy's feelings for Sonic have proven to be a force of their own. By harnessing them, Amy can pull off surprising feats. The shockwaves she is able to perform with her Piko Piko Hammer from time to time are achieved by focusing her passion into her hammer.[37] She can even use thoughts about Sonic to heal herself.[38] Her drive to catch Sonic is also so strong that it can influence her skills, allowing her to make high jumps[39] and even double jumps.[40]

Amy is also able to perform the Spin Attack, a technique where she curls into a concussive ball or cutting disk and directs herself at her targets. With it, Amy can shred or burrow through just about any substance given enough speed. Adept in its usage, Amy can utilize several variants of the Spin Attack for both ground- and aerial maneuvers, including the Spin Dash, Spin Jump, and Homing Attack.

Chara07 03

Amy using her Hammer Attack, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Even without her Spin Attack, Amy is a tough fighter, though her combat skills are not as developed as those of Sonic, Knuckles, or Tails.[41] Despite this, Amy can be a fierce opponent in a confrontation, especially when her temper flares up. She also has undergone limited hand-to-hand combat training, having learned kickboxing and boxercise while on a diet.[42][43] While these martial arts are more reminiscing of exercises, Amy knows how to defend herself using those exercises, allowing her to use quick jabs, straight punches and uppercuts in combat. However, Amy's primary fighting style focuses heavily on her Piko Piko Hammer. In battle, she uses her hammer's size and durability to her advantage, using it either to crush foes with devastating force by bringing it down on them, sending opponents flying into the air with an upward swing or extend her attack range. For more offensive moves, Amy can twirl around with her Piko Piko Hammer, thereby turning herself into a spinning top that mows down everything caught in her attack radius, though such maneuvers can leave her dizzy.

Amy is as well skilled at cartomancy.[5][4] Using her tarot cards, she has been able to predict the future to a certain degree. This has allowed her to deduce Sonic's location during the Little Planet incident and the Emerl incident.[5][44] Amy also possesses excellent dowsing skills,[5][4] especially when it comes to tracking down Sonic, as she has been able to locate Sonic repeatedly, no matter where he is in the world. Cream in particular has noted that Amy has a "Sonic Radar".[45] This skill, in particular, seems to be based entirely on Amy's own finely-tuned feminine intuition.[21][46] Supposedly, Amy is even able to "feel" where a person has been;[47] during the Neo Metal Sonic incident, Amy even stated that she could sense that Chocola and Froggy were likely in Dr. Eggman's base in Rail Canyon.[48]

Amy has steadily proven herself a very talented Extreme Gear rider. Though she did not make it to the finals during the first World Grand Prix, she had become so skilled at riding Extreme Gear at the time of the second World Grand Prix that she was able to compete against even the world's best Extreme Gear riders. While riding on an Extreme Gear, Amy is skillful enough to ride on rails, focus on opponents while remaining in control of her Extreme Gear, and pull off highly advanced tricks and techniques while in midair.

Among other things, Amy can also harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds to empower herself.[49] She has also demonstrated curious abilities, such as being able to initiate a distant attack where she attacks opponents with hearts or turn herself invisible for a short time.

As seen during Dodon Pa's Grand Prix, Amy also has excellent skills when it comes to driving and racing in racecars like the Pink Cabriolet.

Weapons and equipment

Sonic-Advance-Amy-Artwork

Amy with her Piko Piko Hammer, from Sonic Advance.

Amy's trademark weapon is the Piko Piko Hammer, a size-shifting hammer capable of dealing massive damage with no excessive effort, which she can call out from an unknown hiding spot.[50] In Amy's hands, the Piko Piko Hammer is a powerful weapon that she uses to maintain her authority with.[51] This allows her to strike fear into the hearts of even the fearless, such as Sonic. Though simple in function, Amy is highly adept at wielding it and uses it with proficiency second to none.[36] She mainly uses it as a melee weapon in combat, but can also use it for improving her movements and performing long-ranged attacks. She can also use it to support her allies, for example by giving them an upward boost with a standard whack.

During the Emerl incident, Amy made use of explosive bombs wrapped tenderly in gift packs. Also during that time frame, she reveals to Cream, that she wears heavy weights around her arms, which serves as her bracelets, and legs, though they are unseen, all the time for training purposes, explaining Amy's great physical strength.

During the Starfall Islands incident, Amy also made use of her fortune-telling cards. She uses these cards to provide information and guide her way in moments of cluelessness. She also uses them to attack her enemies, as a faster alternative to her hammer.

Transformations

Hyper Mode

Main article: Hyper Mode

A weaker variant of the super transformation. Amy is capable of using this mode for a brief time on her own by drawing power from the Chaos Emeralds. In Hyper Mode, Amy's speed and attack power greatly increases.

Color Powers

Main article: Color Power

By harnessing different variants of Hyper-go-on from Wisps, Amy can use specific Color Powers to transform into a certain form, such as a drill, a laser, or even a planet, each one possessing its own unique abilities. So far, Amy has been able to transform into the Cyan Laser, Yellow Drill, and Indigo Asteroid. However, these transformations require a steady supply of Hyper-go-on to be maintained.

Super Amy

Main article: Super Amy

By harnessing the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds, Amy can enter a Super State, transforming her into Super Amy. In this state, all of Amy's abilities far surpass her normal ones, with the addition of near-invulnerability. However, this transformation consumes a lot of energy and requires Rings to be maintained.

Hyper Amy

Main article: Hyper Amy

By harnessing the power of all seven Super Emeralds, Amy can transform into Hyper Amy. In this state all of Amy's innate abilities far surpass her normal ones, and even those of Super Amy. Additionally, this form allows Amy to rapidly throw Piko Piko Hammers from a distance.

Weakness

Amy's eagerness and enthusiasm are so strong they often get the best of her.

Relationships

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic and Amy 1

Amy and Sonic, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

Do you know how hard it is to find a guy who never stops running? Although that's part of your charm, I suppose.

— Amy Rose, Sonic Colors (Nintendo DS)

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of Amy's best friends. During the Little Planet incident, she went to Little Planet after having a tarot card reading that predicted a "destined" encounter with him.[5][52] Upon seeing Sonic for the first time in Palmtree Panic, she fell in love with him instantly, even attempting to hug him in Palmtree Panic, and following him to Collision Chaos, despite Sonic not sharing the same feelings for her. However, when Amy was kidnapped by Metal Sonic, Sonic attempted to rescue her, eventually doing so, after which Amy hugged him as thanks.

As aforementioned, the original concept for Amy was for her to be Sonic's love interest all along, but Yuji Naka refused, believing it to go against Sonic's character as a "free spirit".

Amy looks up to Sonic and identifies herself as Sonic's "self-proclaimed girlfriend" despite Sonic appearing annoyed by her affections. During the Chaos incident, bored of her mundane city life, Amy resolved to become more independent to win over Sonic's heart and be a part of his adventures by the end of her tale, feeling she was something of a burden to him due to needing to be rescued time and time again.

During the Space Colony ARK incident, Amy goes to Prison Island on her own to free him.

M&SAmy

Amy and Sonic's winning animation, from Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

As of the Neo Metal Sonic incident, Amy had become significantly more aggressive and short-sighted about her infatuation and desire to prove herself to Sonic, win his heart, and prove herself as a hero. She challenged him, believing him to have kidnapped Froggy and Chocola, and fought against him to impress him.

During the Emerl incident, Amy becomes enamored with "boxercise" as part of her arduous physical training to impress Sonic with her adamant dedication, which somewhat worked, but also worried him. At one point, she asked Tails about Emerl, to which the fox explained that Emerl is like a child to Sonic. Amy took this literally and thought that Sonic wanted her to be Emerl's mother. Amy then took Emerl away and told him to call her his mother, thus making Emerl believe that Amy was actually his mother figure. Throughout the same incident, she also tried hard to protect Emerl after losing him to Rouge. In the end, Amy tried to get Sonic to propose to her, but he promptly shivered at the thought and bailed.

STH2006 SN Saved by Amy 07

Amy protecting Sonic from Silver, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

During the Solaris incident, Amy decided to help Silver, unaware that he was tricked into believing that he had to kill Sonic to save his future. Upon finding out about this, she immediately turned on him, saying that she refused to believe Sonic would ever cause the destruction of the world. After discovering that Sonic was killed, she kneeled down and cried into her hands. She later shed a tear when Sonic was brought back to life.

During Dodon Pa's Grand Prix, Amy rarely showed any romantic affection for him, while Sonic joins her in a picnic with Big and Omochao.

Early on during the War to Take Back the Planet, Amy showed great concern about Sonic and missed him, having stated that she had recurring dreams where Sonic was still with them, which made her hold out hope that he might still be alive. When Rouge revealed to them that Eggman merely took Sonic captive and was keeping him onboard the Death Egg, she was shown to be highly relieved expressing contentment at her intuitions being true. She was later shown to be the happiest of all Resistance members (alongside Knuckles and later Tails) when she heard Sonic's voice on Knuckles' communicator while contacting the Avatar.

Sonic saving Amy Mirage Express

Sonic carrying Amy to safety, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

A more mutually caring and affecitonate side of Sonic and Amy's relationship was seen during the Starfall Islands incident, likely sparked by concern over Amy being partially trapped in Cyber Space. While exploring Kronos Island, Sonic often went out of his way to help Amy care for the Koco inhabiting the island and reassure her that he would find a way to get her out of Cyber Space. When Sonic returned from fighting The End in either ending, Amy immediately rushed up and hugged him while Sonic greeted Tails and Knuckles.

However, the Starfall Islands incident also contains hints that Sonic may have begun reciprocating Amy's feelings to some degree as their friendship grew. In archived dialogue from Sonic Frontiers, Sonic daydreamed about sharing an umbrella with Amy and lamented that he should have "made up his mind sooner" about her.[53] While he has never admitted to his feelings otherwise, the possibility of Sonic liking Amy back was implied further during her birthday party, at which Sonic bought Amy a cake with hearts on it and called her "radiant" while wishing her happy birthday.

Cream the Rabbit

Amy Cream Cheese SA3

Amy and Cream are best friends, from Sonic Advance 3.

In earlier appearances, Cream the Rabbit and Amy shared a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. This fact is strengthened by the Gemerl incident, as when they are paired together, they are given the title "Team Jubilee" and serve as a female counterpart to Sonic and Tails' "Unbreakable Bond." When Amy learns Cream's missing Chao Chocola is supposedly in the possession of Sonic the Hedgehog according to her clue, she insists on helping her find him and reunite him with his brother Cheese. Amy supports and encourages Cream when the latter gets scared and loses her resolve, helping her to continue their quest and to not lose hope. When Team Rose successfully gets Chocola back, her Chao cheer Amy's name in appreciation. Cream alerts Amy that Sonic is nearby, with Amy giving chase quickly afterward. The two are portrayed as best friends and also seem to frequent together almost completely throughout the Emerl incident, except when Emerl drags one of them away. Amy is also seen searching for Cream within the Cryptic Castle during the Black Arms invasion, which further suggests how much she cares for her.

Cream will sometimes make innocent comments poking fun or putting into question Amy's fixation with Sonic. In Sonic Heroes. this gets Amy to glare at her and Sonic Rush, when she pulls out her hammer, Cream saying "Not again!" in reaction. In some games, Cream is Amy's equivalent of Tails to Sonic, often helping Amy out or trying to get her out of bad situations like Amy's compulsion to push herself too far especially when aroused to anger.

Big the Cat

Big the Cat acts as an older brother figure to Amy and is most likely her other best friend. They form Team Rose and fight together during the Neo Metal Sonic incident. Amy regularly encourages Big and helps lift his spirits when he loses hope in finding Froggy. As a result, Big develops a very protective disposition toward her and Cream, saying to himself he needs to toughen up in order to protect them. He shows hostility towards Team Chaotix because he believes them to be bullying her and Cream.

Miles "Tails" Prower

SA2 Tailamy

Amy and Tails, from Sonic Adventure 2.

For the most part, Amy and Miles "Tails" Prower have a good friendship, although he is aware of Amy's intense love for Sonic. Due to this, in games like Sonic Battle and Sonic Free Riders, Tails has tried to help Sonic get away from Amy.

The two are good enough friends for Amy to stand up for Tails as seen in Sonic Riders when Amy is defensive of Tails when Wave made fun of him. Amy can be considered an older sister figure to Tails as she always supports him and encourages him when it's needed.

Knuckles the Echidna

Amy and Knuckles the Echidna butt heads quite often or express general frustration with one another, but still overall seem to have a friendly relationship with one another.

In Sonic Advance, Amy is exasperated and mocks the idea of Knuckles being tricked again by Eggman when encountering the disguised Mecha Knuckles.

During the Neo Metal Sonic incident, when playing as Team Sonic, at the beginning of the fight against Team Rose, Knuckles will taunt Sonic about Amy saying, "Are you playing with that girl's heart again, Sonic?"

In Sonic Rush, Amy calls him a "dimwit" before stopping Knuckles from starting a fight with Blaze.

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Amy budges in at the end of Knuckles' sentence, annoying the echidna. However, Knuckles is also seen protecting Amy and pulls her away and out of danger in the MeteorTech Premises.

During the second World Grand Prix, Knuckles calls her "exceptionally dense".

During the Time Eater incident, Amy accidentally hurts Knuckles with a great force (which causes him to crash into a tree), after he said that Sonic "wasn't half bad", whereas she thought he was "all great". However, Amy does not notice how hard she hit Knuckles because she was busy swooning over Sonic.

During the Lost Hex incident, they work separately from Sonic and Tails in saving the animals from Dr. Eggman, butting heads repeatedly to each other's annoyance.

During the War to Take Back the Planet, they work together as part of the Resistance. Although they get along well in this game, Amy has to keep Knuckles in check at times, especially when Knuckles was more than willing to do the distraction at Green Hill himself, with Amy then saying that as the commander of the Resistance, he needs to stay at the Resistance HQ.

Shadow the Hedgehog

I know that people fight over the most trivial things. Some people may be selfish, like the professor said, but they're basically good. If they try their best and never give up on their wishes, they always have a reason to be happy. That's why you should help them out. Saving them is a good thing!

— Amy Rose, Sonic Adventure 2

Amy and Shadow the Hedgehog appear to be on good terms, however, it didn't start in the best of ways. Amy first met Shadow during the Space Colony ARK incident when she mistook him for Sonic. Later aboard the ARK, Amy met Shadow again and managed to convince him to save humanity. As Amy and Maria have the same insight toward humanity, this might be one of the reasons Shadow is on neutral terms with her.

During the Black Arms invasion, Shadow can choose to assist Amy in helping find Cream and Cheese. At the end of Cryptic Castle, Shadow benevolently advises her to be more careful. After the Black Comet was destroyed, Amy shows an amount of faith and admiration for Shadow, regardless of anything bad that may have happened.

In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow came to Amy's birthday party, and they even went to see a concert after the events of the game when Amy realized Shadow was trying to buy them tickets together as her gift. She reminisced on the concert fondly in the 7th Twitter Takeover, adding that she bought him a souvenir shirt in return.

Rouge the Bat

RougeAmyEggman

Amy with Rouge, from Shadow the Hedgehog.

Amy and Rouge the Bat hardly interact, but clearly do not get along very well when they do. They only ever put up with each other usually because Sonic and Shadow work together on occasion. When they first met on Prison Island, Amy and Rouge were enemies, as the latter had been working with Shadow and Eggman, but they became allies towards the end in order to save Earth. During the Emerl incident, they fight several times over Emerl. When Amy called Rouge's house a "dump", Rouge was furious with Amy's comment and the two fought over an Emerald Shard. During the second World Grand Prix, Amy appeared disgusted by Rouge's lack of empathy for E-10000B when he was breaking down and her refusal to allow him to rest.

The two have seemed to get along with each other in certain circumstances like in the Black Arms invasion and the War to Take Back the Planet, but this may be because of the high stakes portrayed in both games.

Dr. Eggman

Eggman, are you up to no good again?!

— Amy Rose, Sonic Heroes

Amy may know much about Dr. Eggman, but the scientist himself doesn't know about her. On the rare occasions they interacted, the doctor merely found her to be an easy pawn in his plans, using her to manipulate Sonic to ensure her safety. This extended to the Eggman persona used by Neo Metal Sonic, that found Team Rose to be an eyesore and condescendingly treated them like children. In the Space Colony ARK, Eggman held her at gunpoint as his hostage, until Tails saved Amy from the scientist, although he got the real seventh Chaos Emerald. By the time of the Starfall Islands incident, however, the villain would acknowledge her as a clever, tenacious girl that has grown from her earlier days as an easy victim. He nevertheless thought she had potentially incapable to reach if she kept following Sonic.

Metal Sonic

You're the one pretending to be Sonic! You're the one responsible for taking Froggy, and Chocola!

— Amy Rose, Sonic Heroes

Metal Sonic is Amy's first ever kidnapper, during the Little Planet incident, until the real Sonic rescued her from Metal and Robotnik. But the next time they met, Amy realized Metal Sonic betrayed Eggman pretending to be Sonic, and kidnapped Froggy, Big's friend, and Chocola, Cheese's brother, and her team along with Teams Chaotix, and Dark fought Metal Madness, before Team Super Sonic fought Metal Overlord.

Vector the Crocodile

Okay, that's enough! I'll have you know our team has only one useless kid on it!

— Amy Rose, Sonic Free Riders

Amy and Vector the Crocodile, at first, did not seem to get along with each other in the slightest in the first few times they interacted with each other.

Amy and Vector first encountered each other during the Neo Metal Sonic incident. When Team Chaotix saw Team Rose, Vector wanted to ask Amy a question. Amy, believing him to be trying to make a pass at her, blows him off which irritates Vector and results in conflict.

The next time the two were seen together was in Sonic Free Riders.

During the War to Take Back the Planet, Amy and Vector worked alongside each other in the Resistance to defend the world from Dr. Eggman, although they never properly interact. Though, it can be assumed that they're better friends with each other nowadays and seem to get along more than they used to. And despite their differences, Amy and Vector seem to hold some respect for each other. Amy appreciates Vector's reliability as a detective for hire, shown in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games when she first turned to him for help after finding out a trap was being prepared for Sonic.

Silver the Hedgehog

During the Solaris incident, Amy mistook Silver the Hedgehog for Sonic.

During the War to Take Back the Planet, Amy and Silver worked alongside each other in the Resistance to defend the world from Dr. Eggman, although they never properly interact.

Birdie

Amy was friendly to Birdie, as she protected him from E-100 ZERO and helped him to find his family. She was happy when Birdie reunited with his siblings.

E-102 Gamma

You're really nice. You're different from the other robots. You've got a soft spot inside your metal frame. If you want, we can be friends, okay?

— Amy Rose, Sonic Adventure
S ev021

Amy protecting Gamma from Sonic, from Sonic Adventure.

Although initially hostile to each other, Amy and E-102 Gamma eventually form a friendship, with Amy being the reason for Gamma reforming and turning against Dr. Eggman.

After Amy was captured by Eggman during the Chaos incident, Gamma approaches Amy in her cell and demands to hand over the bird, but Amy refuses because she cares for Birdie. This act causes Gamma to decide to turn against Eggman and free the animals within the other E-100 Series robots.

Princess Elise

I'll go, too! Because it's for Sonic! So Elise... Watch over him!

— Amy Rose, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Princess Elise was a good friend of Amy's. Amy rescued her from Eggman's base and then escorted and saved her from the robots that were chasing her. Amy gave Elise some advice on love and told her that she had a good chance with Sonic, though she did not know that Elise cared for Sonic as well, saying, "You're a Princess and you're super-cute. That guy's the lucky one." Amy also comforted her in the Last Story of the game.

Trip the Sungazer

At Lagoon City during the Northstar Islands Incident, Amy Rose found a distressful and crying Trip the Sungazer, who quickly becomes afraid of Amy, only to realize that Amy was trying to help her. After helping Trip on getting out from the trap, Amy and Trip built a friendship together, with Amy giving an apple to Trip, an act of kindness that causes Trip to be overjoyed. Amy seems to care a lot for Trip, even after the time of the Northstar Islands incident, as said in TailsTube #5 when she hinted that she would invite Trip for the next TailsTube episode celebrating the anniversary of the Northstar Islands adventure.

Sticks the Badger

I wonder if Cream and Sticks are free? Make a road trip out of it.

— Amy Rose, Sonic Frontiers

Sticks the Badger and Amy are good friends. The two may also like to do activities together, as Amy wonders if Sticks is free so her along with Cream can go on a road trip at the end of the Starfall Islands incident.[54]
