Template:Character Amy Rose is one of the main characters in the Sonic Boom series. She is an anthropomorphic pink hedgehog and serves as Team Sonic's organizer, archaeologist and backbone.[2][3]

Concept and Creation

For the tone of Sonic Boom, Big Red Button Entertainment aimed for Amy to appear as a more "capable" character who would be appealing on her own and make her rise up from being one of the subordinate characters she tends to be in other games. As such, her design was made more "agile and graceful" to make her a strong, able-bodied female character, allowing her to perform difficult physical tasks and make them look easy.[4][5]

Amy's clothes were adjusted to make her seem more like the adventuring type and emphasize her great combat skills with her piko hammer, unlike her main series counterpart.[6]

Appearance

Amy is virtually identical to her main series counterpart, except that she appears slightly taller and thinner. For attire, Amy wears both her trademark red hairband and a red one piece top with a white collar, yellow buttons on the her left side and a lavender sarashi around her waist. She also wears white gloves with purple sports tape and golden ring bracelets around her wrists, purple stockings, and red-violet shoes with pink soles and toes, gray straps and pink plate with two yellow buttons on top, but she also lacks undergarments.

History

Games

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Amy was out foiling another one of Dr. Eggman's evil plans with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and eventually arrived on an new island. There, they find an ancient tomb sealed deep within the island where Amy and her friends come across a powerful villain from the Ancients named Lyric, who plans to power his army of war mongering robots with the Chaos Crystals to destroy everything organic and create a world of twisted metal and robots. To stop Lyric, Amy and her team have to work together and find the Chaos Crystals before Lyric.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, Amy discovered a secret ancient language and manuscript detailing the history and whereabouts of a lost crystal of unlimited power. While taking a break from her research, she rescued Sticks from a rockslide with Sonic Tails and Knuckles. Ignoring Sticks' claims that an underground army would rise to destroy them, Amy returned to her research in some ruins with Knuckles, who she had stand guard outside. As she investigated the ruins, she met Lyric who wanted her knowledge to find the lost crystal and its power. Following the fight with Lyric, Amy contacted Sonic, only to be knocked out by Lyric with a device he put on her.

TV Series

When Sonic held try-outs for a new sidekick after firing Tails, Amy was one of the first enter, but was dismissed by Sonic despite trying twice. Later on, after Sonic had rehired Tails, Amy demanded a callback when she noticed Knuckles had trouble with his own sidekick which made her try to become his sidekick.[7]

One day while visiting Tails' house, Amy and her friends discovered that Sonic and Tails were letting Dr. Eggman, Orbot and Cubot stay here while their lair underwent repairs. While the others remained skeptical, Amy defended the doctor as she viewed Eggman's issue from his point-of-view. When Eggman proved to be an obnoxious roommate for Sonic and Tails, Amy held a "roommate meeting" and convinced the duo to give Eggman a chance. The next day however, where Sonic and Tails were exhausted from being kept up all night by Eggman, Amy and her friends learned from Eggman that he lied about his lair and his plan was to exhaust Sonic and Tails, and summoned Obliteratorbot to destroy them. However, the robot misunderstood Eggman's orders and instead began attacking his lair. Amy, her team and Eggman then went to the lair to stop Obliteratorbot upon Eggman's request, where Amy, Knuckles and Sticks distracted the robot long enough for the others to reach its kill switches, though they were too late to save the lair. Amy later gave company to Eggman to explore his feelings, only for Eggman to run away.[8]

As Amy was relaxing on the beach with Sonic, Knuckles and Sticks, Tails came by with his invention UT, a robot capable of translating any language. However, the began creating tension between Amy and her team as it translated their private thoughts from the subtext of their speech. The next day, Amy and the others came by Tails UT again where the robot started "translating" their speech into insults. However, as they were at each others throat, Tails learned this UT was a fake send by Eggman to tear them apart. As Tails set out to save the real UT, Amy and the rest did not with him as they thought UT was too troublesome. A while later, UT returned to Amy and the others where it showed a message from Tails and translated it into a call to rescue Tails from Eggman's lair. In no time, Amy and the team got to the lair where they freed Tails and beat Eggman's guardbot. As Amy had found peace with UT however, Sticks quickly threw it into the sea.[9]

When the local village came under attack by Eggman's Anti-fire Bot, Team Sonic arrived and put a stop to it. However, because Sticks showed ill treatment of animals during the mission, Amy and her team-mates got Sticks to get a pet to teach her compassion. However, to their repulsiveness, Sticks chose a disgusting robo-dog named Buster for a pet. For a week, Buster was an annoyance to Amy and the others which ended in Buster keeping them from stopping a robbery Orbot and Cubot committed. Amy and the others then attempted to make Sticks get rid of Buster when Eggman came by with a gift for Buster. As Eggman told them he made Buster, his gift turned Buster into a colossal robot that grabbed Amy and the others. However Sticks managed to assume control over Buster and made him release Amy and the others, before getting rid of Eggman. The team then said goodbye to Buster when Sticks released him due to his dangerous nature.[10]

While in the local village with her team, Amy bore witness to it being bombarded by meteors, where Sticks and her defense system averted the crisis. Later, Amy and the others learned from Sticks that she had been nominated for an Awardy Award for her heroism, but refused to go to such an elegant event because she would embarrass herself with her feral behavior. However, Amy promised to help teach Sticks to be a proper lady. Despite some trouble, Amy instilled the basics in Sticks, though at the gala, she still struggled with her manners. When the award was to be handed out however, Amy learned Eggman was a nominee as well (by cheating). When Eggman did not receive the award, Amy and her friends tried to fight the doctor and his robots when he attacked in vengeance, but got incapacitated. Fortunately, Amy was freed by Sticks when she dropped her lady-behavior and her team got rid of Eggman. Amy congratulated Sticks who accepted her request to learn how to listen to her instincts.[11]

When preparing lunch, Amy tried to set it up with a unique design, but due to the lack of interest from Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, she felt her efforts were unappreciated. Eggman then showed and offered Amy the job to redecorate his lair for Modern Lair Magazine. Feeling acknowledged, Amy accepted the offer despite her friends' warnings. At the lair, Amy got to work redesigning it, and despite some doubt from Eggman, the messenger from the magazine loved her work and promised the lair a spot in their issue. However, when Eggman took credit for her work, Amy tried to leave only to be caught in a cage by Eggman so she could keep working for him. Fortunately for Amy, her team came to rescue her and she made amends with them. Team Sonic then trashed Eggman's lair and his robots on their way out, which resulted in Eggman's lair not getting a place in Modern Lair Magazine, and Amy was cheered up by Sonic by being allowed to redecorate his shack.[12]

On a bright day on the beach, Amy came to help Sonic and Tails and Knuckles fight Dr. Eggman and his Giga-Mech, though when she came, she had to pull Knuckles out of the ground after he got stomped on. After chiding Knuckles, Amy organized her team's efforts and had them all attack the mech at critical points at her mark which brought the robot down and forced Eggman to retreat.[13]

Shortly after Sticks arrived and told them that Tails' house had been robbed. Amy then came with Sticks and the gang to Tails' house, where they discovered that the house was gone: what Sticks meant to say was that Tails' whole house had been stolen, and she described the thief as a "cyborg rock golem" that rose from the ground and took the house with it. As they tried to figure out a plan to get Tails' house back, Amy had a hard time explaining the situation to Knuckles when Sticks seemingly caught the scent of the robot and they followed her. Though it turned out Sticks was only smelling the grass, the group still found the Rock-cyborg by following its footprints. Amy then began setting up an ambush for the Rock-cyborg with Knuckles to restore Tails' house to its original place, but once again had to deal with Knuckles' slow-wittedness. Having enough, Amy told him to what to do and to "actually think" for once. Once Sonic lured the Rock-cyborg to them, Amy and Knuckles attacked its legs while Tails and Sticks hit it from behind which made it fall and allowed Sonic to destroy it, thereby bringing Tails' house back on its foundation.[13]

Personality

Amy is smart, independent, strong, and confident.[1][14] She is a natural leader and organizer but tends to take charge of everyone around her, though it is just because she knows what others want before they do.[2] She is sweet and has ballerina-like gracefulness, but also a capable and tough cookie.[2][5]

Amy is most of the time the sensible member of her group of friends,[15] and acts as the problem solver, who attempts to understand both sides of an argument. She is very much an optimist, though it makes her sometimes come off as naïve, and when on a mission she tries to keep the team optimistic as much as she can.[8] However, she also has a short temper and aggressive tendencies which easily flares up when dealing with Knuckles.[13]

Powers and Abilities

Amy possesses a high level of agility and acrobatic skills which let her do physical feats that would normally be difficult for someone else, such as performing body flips, balance perfectly on beams and walk across them and landing safely from a large fall with fluidity and grace. She is also a capable combatant and can hold her own in battle.[2]

Amy has demonstrated strong leadership and organization capabilities, and is a quick thinker and tactician of considerable intelligence. She quickly came up with a plan of action to bring down Eggman's Giga-Mech while coordinating her team's efforts, and she was able to calculate how to bring down Tails' house safely from the Rock-cyborg when setting an ambush.[13] Amy is also a history buff who has studied the legends and lore of her mysterious world and has useful knowledge of the ancient areas that she explores with her friends.[2]

Amy is quite the accomplished decorator with a real feel for color and shape. In addition to setting up atmospheric and detailed lunches, she was able to spruce Eggman's lair so well that it was accepted by the highly-standard Modern Lair Magazine after it was unquestionably dismissed.[12]

Weapons

Piko Hammer

Main article: Piko Hammer (Sonic Boom)

Amy's primary weapon and most prized possession is the piko hammer, a large pink and yellow hammer, capable of dealing massive damage with no excessive efforts, which she can summon out of nowhere at will. Being both very powerful,[14] graceful and fluid with it, Amy is highly adapt and knowledgeable at the wielding the piko hammer, combing its powerful strikes with her own acrobatic skill, thus ensuring no movement with it is wasted. She mainly uses its as a melee weapon in combat and can also use it acrobatic stunt, utilizing it as a hook to swing on bars. However, she is also able to use it as a long-range weapon by throwing it as a projectile with efficient accuracy.[13]

Relationships

Amy and Sticks

Amy is best friends with the wild girl Sticks the Badger. She helps Sticks adapt to civilization and offers her support when she needs it while Sticks is willing to go to extremes to protect Amy.[16] The two are also shown to work well together in combat.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Like other versions of herself from other continuities, Amy is in love with Sonic the Hedgehog. However, she is not constantly fawning over Sonic,[4] and actively keeps her crush on him a secret, even from Sonic himself.[9]

Knuckles the Echidna

Knuckles the Echidna is one of Amy's teammates. While the two of them are friends, Amy is frequently annoyed and has her patience tested by Knuckles' slow-witted nature and how she has to explain things to him, causing her to criticize him and even try to attack him in anger. She also does not think highly of Knuckles' intelligence, though she does know not to overstep her boundaries.[13] According to Knuckles, she thinks of him as no more than a "piece of meat."
