There's been lots of times when Sonic did something or didn't do something that made me wonder why I ever liked him. But in the end, he always comes through for me. He may do crazy things and he may do stupid things, but he never does dishonest things. That's why I'll always have faith in him!

— Amy Rose, "Eggman for President"

Amy Rose (エミー・ローズ Emī Rōzu?) is one of the main characters of the anime series Sonic X and its comic series published by Archie Comics. While usually friendly and caring, if she feels threatened, she can instantly turn into a heavyweight hothead.[8] She is shown to be really stubborn and bossy throughout the series much to the annoyance of a few characters. She is Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend and her long-term goal is to get Sonic to ask her out on a date.[8]

Appearance[]

Described as having beauty,[8] Amy is a pink-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog with green eyes and peach skin on her muzzle, inner ears and arms. She has a small black nose, triangular ears on top of her head, and no back spines. She also has two medium-length eyelashes on each side of her eyes. Additionally, her five short head quills point downwards, somewhat resembling a bob cut. She also has three spikes for bangs on her head, and a short pointy tail.

For attire, she wears a red, sleeveless, backless dress with white trims, knee-high red boots with a white stripe down the center, white cuffs and gray soles, a red hairband, and white wrist-length gloves with gold ring-bracelets for cuffs.

For the beach, Amy wears a matching red bikini top and skirt with yellow hearts patterned all over them, and red sandals with green and purple stripes going across them and yellow hearts on the outside of either shoe. She also retains her standard gloves, bracelets, and hairband.

History[]

Anime[]

Past[]

At some point in the past, Amy met Sonic and fell in love with him, growing determined to become his girlfriend. She also met and befriended Tails, Knuckles, Cream, and Cheese, and together, they would thwart Dr. Eggman’s many attempts to conquer their world.

One day, while chasing Sonic, Amy was ambushed by an E-12 Behemoth. Luckily, Sonic immediately came to destroy the Behemoth and rescue her.[9]

New World Saga[]

Tails and amy about to crash sonic X episode 1

Amy and Tails about to crash in the Tornado 2.

Amy was first seen in the Tornado 2 with Tails trying to save Sonic as he attacked Eggman's headquarters to save Cream and Cheese and retrieve the Chaos Emeralds from Eggman. After the plane's engine caught on fire from taking damage from the gunfire of Eggman's robot guards, she and Tails were saved by Knuckles and ended up on Earth because of Chaos Control.[10] Amy herself ended up in the sewers of Station Square along with Knuckles, almost exasperated for the uncomfortable team up; the two clash with Eggman's E-23 Missile Wrist in an attempt to save Tails and Christopher Thorndyke, and then joined in the fray by Sonic, who arrived in time to save the day. After that, Amy joined Sonic, Tails, and Cream at Chris' house to live there for the time being.[11]

From there, Amy helped out whenever Dr. Eggman attempted something nasty. She and her friends also planned to return to their home planet by gathering the Chaos Emeralds and cause Chaos Control again. Not long after, Amy would help retrieve the first of the Chaos Emeralds when it appeared at a construction site.[12]

Later, Amy joined Chris and Tails on a search for another Chaos Emerald when a lead on it showed up, only to discover that the lead was a trap laid by Eggman to imprison them in E-47 Pumpty after he duped Knuckles into turning against Sonic until he discovered the ruse and teamed up with Sonic to get back at Eggman for deceiving him. While Amy resisted their capture, Sonic and Knuckles were able to destroy Pumpty and rescue Amy and their friends.[13] When word then came out that Chris' parents were coming home to visit him, Amy grew concerned when Chris did not come home from school. While Sonic got Chris home, Amy did her best to avoid revealing herself to Ella, as she did not know about them yet.[14]

The next day, Amy stayed in hiding during the party Lindsey had arranged for Chris by acting as a stuffed animal, but when Cream blew her cover by yelling at Chris for thinking ill of his mother after Cream overheard Lindsay feeling terrible with having to return to work before spending some time with her son, Amy went after her to calm her down. As a result, Amy revealed herself to Ella. After Chris and his grandfather Chuck told Ella the whole story though, Amy was free to roam the Thorndyke Mansion. In addition, she would help Ella in the kitchen with her cooking from then on.[15]

Thanks to Ella helping her, Amy soon made some delicious food. When Sonic later returned from dealing with E-90 Super Sweeper with Tails and Chris in the X Tornado, Amy offered some delicious ice cream for her favorite hedgehog.[16]

Later, on a trip to Emerald Coast, which turned into another battle to stop Eggman's latest scheme with turning the new resort into his newest amusement park, Amy saved Sonic and shared a romantic moment with him when she offered him a shell bracelet she had made to protect him from the water. However, Eggman's robot, Serpenter, unexpectedly smashed her bracelet after it dropped from Sonic's hand. At first, Amy was upset and cried as she picked up the pieces. Her sadness quickly turned into furious anger though, and she destroyed Eggman's robot in short order.

She then got launched into the air and landed in the ocean, smashing Eggman with her hammer as she continued to vent her fury at him over the destruction of her bracelet. Amy almost drowned, but Sonic, to everyone's surprise, despite his fear of water, dived into the water and swam to save her, and it is seen that she was holding the broken bracelet at the time. When Amy regained consciousness, Sonic was gone, and her broken bracelet was lost. Unbeknownst to Amy however, Sonic had found the bracelet, repaired it, and began wearing it.[17]

When the second Chaos Emerald was found in the soon-to-be-decommissioned Diamond Stadium by the groundskeeper Albert Butler, Amy arrived with the others to challenge Eggman and his team of E-21 Ballios to see who got the Chaos Emerald. During the game, Amy used her hammer as her bat, but the Ballios cheated to ensure that she could not score. Still, Amy got her revenge when she managed to smash a few of the Ballios with her pitches or when she was up at the bat again. Once Sonic's team took the lead though, Eggman cheated to ensure he still escaped with the Chaos Emerald.

Meanwhile, impressed by the game, the team manager Elmer Johnson agreed to move the turf at Diamond Stadium to the new stadium and keep Albert as well for his years of service.[18]

SX S1E13 Amy help Frances

Amy and Frances hang on tight to each other.

When Tails set off to look for another Chaos Emerald at Tingalin Villa, Amy joined him alongside Chris and Frances, not realizing they were being tailed by Chris' school teacher, Mister Stewart, who was actually an undercover G.U.N. agent. However, while looking for the Emerald, Amy and co. got attacked by Eggman and his E-35 Funfun. She was nearly blown away by the hurricane-like winds from E-35, but used her hammer and some stakes to keep her grounded to help Chris and Frances.[19] Thankfully, Sonic arrived in time to destroy E-35, but when they found the yellow Chaos Emerald, Eggman stole it and made his escape.[20]

Not intending to let Eggman win, Amy, Sonic, Tails, Chris, and Frances pursued him back to his headquarters, which was currently being attacked by G.U.N. naval and air forces. There, Sonic managed to retrieve both Chaos Emeralds before the explosives G.U.N. had planted in the base destroyed it. Amy then celebrated the victory over Eggman and at having all three Chaos Emeralds that had appeared so far.[20]

Chaos Emerald Saga[]

When Sonic was invited to a gala at the White House to meet the President, Amy attended it with the rest of her friends, while Sonic stayed behind due to another obligation regarding Chris' classmate Helen. However, he later arrived with Helen in a commandeered G.U.N. helicopter and met the President, and Amy shared a laugh with all her friends when the President's advisor, Jerome Wise, passed out after discovering the press he stalled until Sonic showed up were fast asleep when the moment finally came, causing him to suffer a nervous breakdown in frustration.[21]

After being given a passport that allowed her to travel in public, Amy was at first enraged upon seeing that her picture in it was a bad one. However, she forgot about it once Ella and Chris took her, Tails, Cream and Cheese to the mall. However, many of the people gave Amy and the others various looks of unease or concern, due to their newfound fame regarding their roles in taking down Eggman's headquarters, and it soon became overwhelming for them. As they left the mall however, Station Square was besieged by Eggman in his new mobile headquarters, the Egg Fort, as the doctor unleashed E-42 Toroles and E-43 Falcons on the city.

Sam Speed arrived to take Amy and the others home, but soon meet up with Mister Stewart and Mister Tanaka, with Tanaka having brought the X Tornado to help Sonic against the Egg Fort, saving the team from a group of Eggman's E-33 Buballs that were about to shoot them. Using the X Tornado, Amy and co. lured the Egg Fort away from Station Square to avoid causing collateral damage to the city, but the X Tornado was soon damaged and had to land on a G.U.N. aircraft carrier. Before it did though, Sonic managed to send the Egg Fort into the ocean. After that, Amy reunited with Sonic, and both of them looked out over the water with concern as Tails pointed out that Eggman would not quit anytime soon.[22]

Amy soon after joined Chris and the others on a trip to the Sapphire Sea to explore a sunken treasure ship, where they found the blue Chaos Emerald, but also ended up being attacked by Eggman again with his E-57 Clurken. Sonic managed to defeat E-57 though, and the gang got away with the Chaos Emerald.[23]

At one point, Amy joined Chris, Sonic, Tails, Cream and Cheese at one of Lindsey's movie shoots at an old castle. However, the castle turned out to be haunted by King Boom Boo and his Boom minions, who kidnapped everyone except Amy and Chris. After they duped Amy into releasing them from their imprisonment, King Boom Boo restrained her so she could be possessed by one of his lackeys, causing her to attack Chris thanks to her possession. However, she hesitated to finish him off in the presence of the Talisman, terrified of damaging it in the process.

Chris used that moment to free Sonic from the ghosts' captivity with the Talisman, who managed to exorcise Amy and return her to normal. They then freed Lindsey and the others, and escaped from King Boom Boo, though not without sealing him up in a way that might have allowed some of his Booms to still escape.[24]

When Chris took Amy and the others on a trip to the glaciers on the Thorndyke Family yacht, Amy was frustrated by Sonic's inability to relax on open waters. She tried to give him a pep talk to bolster his morale, but Sonic instead pretended to faint from his fear of water, much to Amy's concern. Later, Sonic tried using Amy to get home; using her affection for him, he convinced Amy to act like she had gone crazy so they had a reason to head home. However, when Amy learned of Sonic's deceit, she hunted Sonic down in retaliation to punish him.

However, the trip was soon interrupted by the arrival of Eggman in his new Egg Fort II. Thanks to the advice of one of the ship's senior citizens, and a very angry Ella in the X Tornado though, Sonic regained his confidence and defeated the Egg Fort II.[25] Back home later on, Amy was awoken one night by Sam Speed when he arrived at the Thorndyke Mansion to challenge Sonic to a race in his new Rocket Car, which Sonic eventually accepted. During the race, Amy cheered on Sonic, who was able to win the race by a large margin.[26]

Amy then went on a trip to Mister Tanaka's homeland of Japan alongside Chris' classmates, where she stayed with Mister Tanaka to cook lunch for Mister Stewart and the kids. However, Eggman soon appeared with E-66 Da-Dai-Oh, suspecting that the group was looking for another Chaos Emerald. Amy, Mister Stewart, and Mister Tanaka later found Sonic after he destroyed E-66, and explained that Chris and the others have gone missing. Later that night, Mister Tanaka revealed that he knew about the Chao colony the others found, as he found one as a child.[27]

Later, Amy would join Chris on a trip to Filmdom City to see his father, Nelson Thorndyke, who planned on giving a ring to Lindsey on the set of her latest movie to celebrate their wedding anniversary, only for Amy to realize that the ring was a Chaos Emerald after it reacted violently to the one Sonic was carrying. When Nelson's plan fell apart after he tripped and temporarily exposed the Emerald again, Eggman crashed the sound stage in the Egg Fort II to claim the Emerald, leaving E-74 Weazo behind to threaten the Thorndykes while he escaped with the Emerald in his possession. Despite losing the Chaos Emerald, Amy still joined in with celebrating the Thorndykes' anniversary afterwards.[28]

Following a battle with E-88 Lightning Bird, Amy noticed that Sonic was apparently ignoring her. What she did not realize at first however was that a microchip from E-88 had gotten stuck in Sonic's ear, resulting in him being forced to run constantly without stopping when the chip was triggered by a car door remote. After several attempts to stop Sonic failed, Amy and Tails deduced that E-88 had something to do with it, and returned to confront the battered, but still functioning, robot. When it took Amy prisoner, Sonic arrived to finish off E-88 for good, dislodging the microchip from his ear in the process.

However, when Amy noticed Sonic poking at his ear again afterwards, she blew out the straw that had gotten in it this time.[29]

During the hunt for the last missing Chaos Emerald, Amy discovered that Chris had take the Emeralds they already had in an attempt to help Amy and co. get home.[30] When Amy then learned that Chris had been taken prisoner by Eggman on the Egg Fort II, along with their Chaos Emeralds, she joined Tails, Chuck, Cream and Cheese with trying to rescue him on the X Tornado. When the Egg Fort II became the E-99 Eggsterminator however, Tails was unable to get close enough to engage it, forcing Amy to threaten to take it down herself to help Sonic as he was being mercilessly pummeled by the E-99, much to her fury. However, there was no need for her to have to engage E-99 herself, as Chaos Control was activated again when Super Sonic destroyed the E-99 Eggsterminator himself within seconds after transforming, bringing the Mystic Ruins and Angel Island to Earth.[31]

Chaos Saga[]

G060amye102

Amy protecting Gamma.

Six months after the battle with the E-99 Eggsterminator, Amy had moved into an apartment in Station Square largely unsatisfied of her actual life alone and without knowing where Sonic is since the events with E-99.[32] When the battle between Eggman's Egg Carrier and X Tornado occurred in the skies of Station Square, Amy was hit on the head by a small blue bird (that she would call "Lily") that had escaped through a breach in the Egg Carrier's hull from damage it sustained from the X Tornado. Finding out the bird was injured, she took it with her and ran with it to assist both Tails and Sonic after seeing the X Tornado shot down from its dogfight with the Egg Carrier.[33] After that, she was with Cream and Cheese when she got kidnapped by ZERO and taken to the Egg Carrier, where she was freed by Gamma and becomes his friend.[9][33]

During her escape from the Egg Carrier, Amy figured out that the bird she was protecting had a Chaos Emerald in its pendent. She soon after saved Gamma's life from Sonic when the robot fought him. After getting to safety, she started looking for Lily's family, destroying ZERO in the process when it confronted her with Decoe and Bocoe. She also saw the tragic end of Gamma as it fought E-101 "Kai" and they destroyed each other.[34][35] She later was witness to when Sonic used the positive energy of the Chaos Emeralds to defeat Perfect Chaos and purge it of the rage and hatred that had consumed it for centuries.

Shadow Saga[]

After Chaos' attack, Amy bit farewell to Chris when he and his family moved to the capital while their mansion was being cleaned from the flood.[36] Amy was later shocked to find Sonic having become a wanted fugitive due to several thefts that were performed by a figure that appeared to be Sonic on surveillance cameras. After Sonic had a run-in with that figure, revealed to be Shadow the Hedgehog, Amy arrived just after Shadow fled to watch Sonic surrender to the police and G.U.N. when they mention taking him to Prison Island. After Sonic's arrest, Amy went with Tails in the X Tornado to bust Sonic out of prison.[37]

Once on the island, Amy ran into Shadow and mistook him for Sonic at first, but then continued onward to find Sonic's cell, only to be attacked by a Gold Beetle that she easily disposed of. Sonic then busted out of his cell, and the two went to find Shadow, only for Amy to be forced to flee the island with Tails and Mister Tanaka when it was revealed that Eggman had planted explosives rigged to destroy the island in a few minutes. Amy escaped, but presumed Chris had perished in the explosion.[38] She learned later that Shadow must have rescued him.[39]

Learning of the Space Colony ARK, Amy joined Tails and the others as they traveled to the ARK.[39] Once on the ARK however, Eggman took Amy hostage and forced Sonic into being launched into space in an escaped pod rigged to self-destruct. Sonic, however, managed to escape in the last second. Amy and the others were as well unable to prevent Eggman from putting all seven Chaos Emeralds into the Eclipse Cannon, but instead of it firing on Earth when Eggman hit the trigger, it triggered a doomsday plot by Eggman's late grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, who wanted revenge for his granddaughter, Maria, who was killed by G.U.N. 50 years ago.[40][41] With the ARK now on a collision course with the Earth, Amy remained behind while the others tried stop the ARK's crash. She also watched Chris convince Shadow to help Sonic stop the ARK. Amy then watched as Sonic and Shadow, in their super forms, destroyed the Final Lizard and performed a massive Chaos Control that restored the ARK to a stable orbit. However, Sonic returned with only one of Shadow's Limiter rings, presuming that Shadow sacrificed himself to stop the ARK. Amy and everyone then mourned for him before returning to Earth.[41]

Egg Moon Saga[]

After the events on the Space Colony ARK, Amy was back at the Thorndyke Mansion, watching the news when it was announced that Eggman had repaired the half of the Moon he destroyed with the Eclipse Cannon as an apology for his grandfather's revenge plot. Later, she grew frustrated by Sonic having not returned yet and began swinging her Piko Piko Hammer back and forth in an angry fit before suddenly striking something invisible, leaving her puzzled by what she hit. Later, the Chaotix arrived to collect Cream as part of a case they were on, but it soon escalated into a fight before Sonic returned with Vector's client, Cream's mother, Vanilla, who reunited with her daughter, while Amy had fun poking at Vector for the mistaken identity situation he was now stuck in.[42]

Much later, Amy was on the Thorndyke family yacht to celebrate the New Year with everyone, only to be disappointed when the sunrise got blocked by the Egg Moon. After Eggman apologized, saying that the Egg Moon was malfunctioning, and offered his Sunshine Balls as a temporary solution, Amy was shocked to find Sonic wrecking the Mirror Towers powering the Sunshine Balls, turning a lot of public opinion and fans against him.[43] As Sonic continued his rampage, Amy attempted to help get Chris and Tails to the X Tornado by smashing a wall down with her Piko Piko Hammer, only to find the way blocked by an angry mob led by Jerome Wise. Luckily, Sam Speed and his Speed Team arrived and forced the mob to leave under threat of arresting the whole lot of them if they laid so much as a hand on Chris, Amy, or the others. When Amy, Tails, and Chris found Sonic, having been fighting Knuckles before they and G.U.N. arrived with their Hot Shots, Sonic revealed to all of them that Eggman was lying about the Egg Moon malfunctioning so he could profit off his Sunshine Balls and brainwash the citizens.[44]

Returning to the Thorndyke Mansion, while Knuckles went with Rouge, Topaz, and Mister Tanaka into space to deal with the Egg Moon, Amy went with Sonic, Tails, and Chris to the capital to rescue the President and Christina Cooper from Eggman, who was holding them hostage in the White House. Soon after, Amy was part of an elaborate trap that led to Eggman and his two robot lackeys being arrested and imprisoned.[44]

Emerl Saga[]

Amy vs bokkun

Amy vs. Bokkun.

With Eggman locked up, Amy managed to make a date with Sonic, only for Sonic to never show up. In her frustration, Amy went out on a trip with Sam Speed, during which she gained an understanding for Sonic's need for speed. When Amy found Sonic however, he stood her up in favor of a race with Sam.[5] Amy soon had another problem as the various appliances being made by Chris' father's business, Thorndyke Industries, were turning evil and attacking people, a result of Eggman using his time in prison to install chips in the appliances to turn them to his side. Although Amy and her friends managed to deal with this, it provided Bokkun with the distraction to bust Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe out of prison.[45]

Hoping to capture Eggman again, the President held a tournament with the red Chaos Emerald as the prize for the winner. Amy took part in the tournament, and advanced after Sonic unintentionally disqualified himself by going after Eggman when he fired at Amy after interrupting their match.[46] However, Amy was eliminated later in the quarter-finals by Rouge, and Emerl won the whole tournament, but when he went berserk due to the energy from the Chaos Emerald, Amy teamed with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Rouge to take him down. However, she was no match for Emerl and his copy ability. She later watched as Cream and Cheese worked together to counter Emerl's copy ability and finally sent him to a watery grave.[47]

Homebound Saga[]

Soon, Amy learned that she and those from her world had to return to their home dimension, or time would stop permanently. After Chuck and Tails put together a portal that provided the means to send everyone home, Amy was one of the last to go through said portal before Chris shut it down so Sonic could not follow everyone else.[48][49]

Back on her world, Amy was visiting Vanilla and Cream for tea one night where she discussed her resolve to wait for Sonic to return, no matter how long, only to be rudely interrupted by Eggman flying about in his Grand Egg Imperial and calling Sonic out. Amy quickly got Eggman's attention when she dented the Grand Egg Imperial with her Piko Piko Hammer, but when Eggman and his lackeys made the mistake of insulting her further and taunting her over being unarmed now, Amy conjured another one, terrifying everyone around her. Amy fired several of her Piko Piko Hammers into the Grand Egg Imperial while Tails attacked it from the air in the Tornado 2/Hyper Tornado, until Super Sonic arrived to save Tails, wrecked the Grand Egg Imperial, and flew off toward Amy's house. Amy arrived back at her house just after sunrise to find Sonic, powered down from his super state, waiting for her. After giving Sonic a good reprimand and then breaking down in tears, Amy embraced Sonic in a hug as she bawled her eyes out after he presented a flower to her and assured her he would not leave her again, though Sonic started to regret his words as Amy hugged and cried all over him for several seconds.[50]

Metarex Saga[]

Amy076

Amy unconscious and falling into the Metarex planet.

Throughout the journey through space, Amy tries to rescue Sonic from a Metarex base, disobeying orders so that she can find him on a planet, and even tries to force Sonic into loving her by creating a love charm (although her plan failed as Tails and Cosmo accidentally triggered it instead). Sonic, on the other hand, has other things on his mind, but does not completely ignore her and her efforts. In the final battle against the Metarex, Sonic shows just how much he does care for her by putting himself and his life on the line so that the Metarex would not hurt Amy. When Sonic is dragged inside the Metarex planet, Amy tries to save him, but ends up being dragged inside the planet as well. Then, suddenly, a bubble appears and envelops them both, healing and protecting them. It transports them out of the planet (it seems as though something unknown had sensed how much they cared for each other and saved them when they needed it most). At the end, Amy does not see Chris returning to Earth and declares war on Eggman with the other heroes.

Archie Comics[]

Early Adventures[]

Most of Amy's adventures in the first comics involved her tagging around with her hero Sonic, as well as Tails and Cream. She watched as Sonic won a race against Sam Speed and was at the bank when Dr. Eggman. Getting out her Piko Piko Hammer, she slammed down on Ben-728 Packratbot and caused its missiles to explode. Attracting Dr. Eggman's attention, he ordered the robot to crush her, but Sonic raced on the scene and defeated the robot.[51]

After a week later, Amy went with Chris' class as well as Tails and Sonic but were ambushed by Eggman's robots. They eventually found out that Sam Speed, Topaz, Mister Stewart, the President, and Chris were kidnapped and stuck inside the robots, meaning that they could not destroy them.[52] They managed to free them with help from Rouge and Knuckles.[53]

I Never Promised You a Chao Garden[]

Dr. Eggman unleashes his new plan by selling Chaos to the people of Station Square. Amazed by the appearance of the Chaos from her world, she dreams of heading back there and sleeping in her own bed again as well as Tails, Sonic, Cream, and Cheese. When the new Chao turn into Dark Chao by Eggman's control, Amy works with Sonic to disable one in Chris' house, but has to deal with the rest in the city.[54] During the battle fighting with Sonic and Tails against the Dark Chao; Knuckles, Tikal, Chaos, and an army of Chao join to help them.

Dr. Eggman joins the fight with his Dark Chao with his giant robot, but is quickly defeated by a good version of Perfect Chaos. Sonic manages to change the Dark Chao to normal Chao again using a counter signal. Tikal and Chaos depart with the Dark Chao after they have been restored to normal back into the Master Emerald.[3]

Wicked Sweet Shuttle Shenanigans[]

After Chris' birthday party in Paris, Nelson Thorndyke plans to unveil his new space shuttle, that Eggman plans to steal. Rouge and Topaz also journey to Paris to find Eggman, but are too late when Eggman attacks the crowds with his giant robots. Amy runs with Sonic and Tails to stop the robots as Eggman, Decoe and Bocue try to steal the space shuttle, but are foiled by Big. Following Eggman into a house of mirrors, they are attacked by another giant robot. After the battle, Eggman flees with the space shuttle.[55][56]

No Thanks for the Memories[]

After the Chaotix left mysteriously to their world, Amy finds herself trapped in Marble Zone tied up. Sonic rescues her, but she is unable to fight back with her hammer missing. She travels with Sonic to rescue Knuckles, Rouge, Tails, Cream and Vanilla while Chuck Thorndyke and Chris try to find them. Once their reach the final level, Eggman begins the countdown to the launch of his rocket that he stole, where they are all trapped in along with the Master Emerald. Chuck and Chris manages to rescue them in time heading to Eggman's old base before they were sent to the moon.[57][58]

Holiday madness[]

When Christmas is about to start, Sonic reveals that he doesn't believe in Santa Claus and journeys to the North Pole to find him. With no luck, he heads back to Station Square. Eggman, dressed as Santa Claus, orders the citizens of the world that he wants Sonic. Amy defends Sonic, but he gives in and manages to reveal Dr. Eggman's plan.[59] During Valentine's Day, Amy is overjoyed that she is going on a date with Sonic (not knowing that it's because he lost a bet). During the date, Amy is oblivious to Eggman, Decoe, Bocoe and Bokkun trying to ruin the date and fail.[60] During St. Patrick's Day, Amy tries to pinch Sonic because he's not wearing green (even though his eyes are green) and defends it by wearing a green clover necklace. Meanwhile, Eggman tries to hunt leprechauns, mistaking a green Cheese and Bokkun for them. Sonic battles against his giant robot, but ends up being disadvantaged. Chris manages to trick Eggman to follow the rainbow in search of leprechauns and Amy begins chasing after Sonic to pinch him after realizing that he has lost his green necklace during the battle.[61]

Amy appeared along with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Chris, and Chuck to show off her skills to Station Square. She managed to use her hammer in fury, which was downloaded into Eggman's new robot, X Robot. Eggman sent his robot to attack them and easily overpowered them with their own abilities. The heroes thus worked together and managed to destroy it with their own abilities.[62]

Green-eyed monster[]

Dr. Eggman unleashed his new line of three Greenbots that all have powers of water, light, and wind to gather the Chaos Emeralds. Amy, Sonic, and Tails tried to stop them, but they stole the Chaos Emerald in the X-Tornado. They followed them to Angel Island, where the Greenbots proved too powerful. Gathering all of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, Eggman used his Greenbots to take control of Perfect Chaos by turning it into Chaosbot.[63] He ordered Perfect Chaos to attack Station Square while Amy, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles were trapped on the island. Chris and Chuck arrived with the Tornado and they flew to Station Square with them on-board. Sonic managed to become Super Sonic with Chaos' hand managed to free Chaos from Eggman's control, who then traveled back to the Master Emerald.[64]

Game appearances[]

Sonic XS[]

In Sonic XS, it is mentioned that Amy has been kidnapped by Dr. Eggman, and Sonic must save her by fighting his way through Eggman's robots to reach the top.

Shadow XS[]

In Shadow XS, it is mentioned that Amy has been kidnapped by Shadow the Hedgehog, who is escaping with her to his hideout as Sonic pursues him.

Sonic X (Leapster)[]

In Sonic X (Leapster), Amy, alongside Knuckles and Tails, was kidnapped by Dr. Eggman. However, she was saved by Sonic in Eggman's Base.

Personality[]

Amy is rather temperamental, bossy, and stubborn, which can make her threaten or even harm her friends for things they had nothing to do with. Amy is also vain and tends to brag about her appearance. However, she is very cheerful, optimistic, kind, friendly, and a loving person who cares a lot for her friends.

Powers and abilities[]

Though not as strong as Sonic or Knuckles, Amy possesses great strength, able to easily lift and swing her hammer despite its large size, even with one hand, or throw it an amazing distance.[50] She also once easily broke off a large wooden pole with Sonic hanging from it that was attached to a wall and then carried Sonic (who weighs 77 pounds) and the pole with one hand.[65] Amy is also capable of performing the Spin Attack.[7]

Weapons[]

Amy's main means of combat and offense comes in the form of her signature weapon, the Piko Piko Hammer. She apparently is able to conjure the hammer out of thin air, though it is unknown if this is a natural talent of Amy's, or an ability that comes with the hammer. Her hammer is also known for striking fear into those it is being used against, such as Bokkun.

Relationships[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Sonic gives Amy a flower

Sonic handing Amy a pink rose.

Amy is Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend and her long-term goal is to get him to notice, love, and respect her. No matter what mood she is in, her heart melts quickly the instant she sees her fleet-footed hero.[8] She gets mad at Sonic's impatience and aloof attitude, which occasionally are so bad that she is driven to violence. However, she really does care about him and does not want him to get hurt. Likewise, Sonic seems comfortable with Amy whenever she is not obsessing over him, even going so far as to bring her a pink rose and promising her that he would never leave her. Amy also has romantic daydreams about her and Sonic.

At first, Amy would have emotional breakdowns whenever Sonic got captured, as shown in "Sonic's Scream Test". However, as the show went on, Amy would remain with a more positive attitude when rescuing Sonic from his later captures, as shown in both "Sonic's Big Break" and "H2 Whoa".

Cream the Rabbit[]

Amy and Cream the Rabbit are best friends. At times, Cream is scared of Amy's temper but supports her pursuit of Sonic in romance.

Cosmo[]

AmyCosmo153

Amy and Cosmo.

Cosmo is Amy's dear and good friend. At first, in "A Cosmic Call", Amy despised Cosmo when she announced that she had crossed space to find Sonic and threatened her not to approach him since she claimed to be his official girlfriend. By the next episode ("Cosmic Crisis") however, Amy recognized Cosmo as a tragic victim and agreed to help her rescue the worlds the Metarex has conquered. During the trip, Amy encouraged Cosmo to go through with her choices and fight to achieve her goal. She later mourned her sacrifice against Dark Oak.

Knuckles the Echidna[]

Amy and Knuckles the Echidna are friends but they do not get along often. For example, when Tails and Knuckles were about to find Sonic, Amy wanted to go with them, but Knuckles said that they do not want her in their way and left Amy on the Blue Typhoon. Another time, when Tails and his crew landed on Planet Hobidon, Tails wanted Sonic, Knuckles and Amy to team up. Amy did not like Knuckles' presence with them; in response, Knuckles crossed his arms and ignored her. Knuckles is shown to have some fear for Amy's hammer, as shown in both "How to Catch a Hedgehog" and "Cosmic Crisis".

Rouge the Bat[]

Amy did not like Rouge the Bat, considering her a rival. The two fought fiercely and also competed to see which one was stronger. Though she distrusted Rouge, Amy was able to work with her quite effectively when faced with a greater threat, coordinating various actions against the Metarex.

Ella[]

Ella became Amy's best friend in the human world. Amy felt more secure around Ella and quickly befriended her, helping her with the housework. They also shared a passion for cooking, and Ella even shared one of her recipes with Amy.

Lily[]

Amy met Lily by accident when she landed on her head. Amy was concerned about Lily's fate and was ready to help her find her missing family. She also willingly talked to Lily about her experiences so far and shared her reflections. For her, too, she undertook a risky journey to the destroyed Egg Carrier.

E-102 Gamma[]

At first, Amy thought E-102 Gamma was just another mindless Eggman robot. However, she quickly became convinced that there was a particle of good in him. She managed to convince Gamma to release her from her cell, for which she thanked him, calling him Mr. Robot ever since. Amy then saved Gamma's life by admitting that she was happy to return the favor. Thanks to Amy, Gamma managed to become independent and free the pets to power the rest of the E-100 series robots. Though Amy grieved over Gamma's death, she believed that he would now be able to find peace with his brothers.

Quotes[]

"Lovely... I just wish Sonic were here to enjoy this with me."
—Amy on the beach, "The Last Resort"
"Every time I come up with a way to capture Sonic's heart, he makes a last-minute getaway! This is totally unfair! That trap was set for Sonic! I wanted to get my romance grown, and now I have to watch you two go gaga over each other! This is outrageous! Go find your own planet to fall in love on!"
—Amy exploding in anger, "The Planet of Misfortune"

Trivia[]

  • Both Amy and Tails appeared in the second-largest number of episodes of Sonic X (72 episodes), but in a different order.
  • In the Japanese version of "A Robot Rebels", Amy is shown to be capable of telepathy.
  • Alongside Charmy, Amy spoke English only once in the Japanese version, where she quoted Sonic saying "See you later" when Chris asks her of Sonic's whereabouts.
  • Most of Amy's sprites in Sonic X (Leapster) are taken from Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2.

Notes[]

  1. The world where Amy comes from is not named in the anime and comics. The comics state, though, that Amy and her friends traveled across dimensions on a parallel planet, Earth.
