For once, the heroes have a chance to relax and enjoy a nice quiet picnic together... yeah right! Things go from picnic when Chuck Thorndyke spots a meteor hurtling toward each- and its has a Chaos Emerald embedded inside! Now the heroes must travel to the South Pole and keep Doctor Eggman from getting his hands on it. To make things more interesting, the heroes decided to make a competition and split into teams from the South Pole to Station Square, passing through Argentina and Brazil. Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends compete against each other and Dr. Eggman (being the prize for the place in the competition) and the Chaos Emerald.
On the front cover, Big and Vector are mistakenly shown to be smaller than usual: on the cover, they both appear to be the same size as the other characters, while in the anime, Big is much larger than most of the characters (being 200 centimeters tall) and Vector is only twenty centimeters shorter than Big.
While in the mudbath wearing headphones, the song lyrics Eggman sings are parodies of songs featured in the High School Musical film series published by Disney Channel.
With this issue, the Sonic X comic series officially bypasses the Knuckles the Echidna series as the longest running spinoff Sonic comic series.
