"Take this job and shovel it!"
Two sewer workers notice a secret room in the city's sewer system and report to G.U.N. Unknown to them, Emerl has been activated in the secret room. At G.U.N. HQ, the President, Captain Westwood, Topaz and Rouge are discussing the room. The President orders Topaz and Rouge to investigate Dr. Eggman. Westwood, never going on the exciting missions anymore believes it's because Rouge is Topaz's partner. Westwood plans to get Sonic to be his partner and uses a new report of an unidentified object buried in the desert to enlist Sonic's help.
At the Thorndyke Mansion, it is Chris' birthday and Sonic, Tails, Amy, Cream, Cheese and Ella are getting prepared. Chuck on the phone informs Chris that his parents are still in Paris and can't make it to his birthday, but Amy cheers Chris up by telling him that they'll have fun without them. Tanaka brings in Westwood who tells Sonic that the President has ordered Sonic to join him on the mission. Chris wants Sonic to go even if it means being late for his birthday. Topaz and Rouge explore the chamber, not noticing Emerl and are sent back by the President who has an important mission for them. Emerl needing to recover additional data follows Topaz and Rouge out of the chamber, before it is sealed.
Westwood and Sonic are then seen in a desert; Sonic digs down to find the object while Westwood tries to persuade Sonic into joining G.U.N. Sonic responses by saying that he doesn't mind helping out sometimes, but he's not going to abandon Chris. Sonic and Westwood find the object as a large robot, which activates instantly. Westwood seeing another chance to become the number one agent wants Sonic to keep the robot intact. Sonic uses the spade he dug the robot out to open its control panel and shuts it down. Westwood asks Sonic to join G.U.N. and tells him that the President will make him an officer when Westwood has come up with the idea to bring him there. Sonic realizes that Westwood had been lying to him the whole time fills up the hole the robot came from and tells Westwood he'll never work with someone he can't trust. Sonic runs off telling him to get a hide from his friends, if he has any, leaves Westwood stranded in the desert.
Topaz and Rouge arrive back at base where Dr Eggman has been spotted in Paris and the President needs them there straight away. Emerl follows them in hope to learn more about his past. Sonic arrives just in time to celebrate Chris' birthday with his friends, Danny, Helen and Francis. Chris' parents wanting to see their son decide to send him and all his friends to Paris to attend the World Fair.
- The object that Sonic and Westwood find is similar to the alien robots from War of the Worlds.
