Back in the control center of New Mobotropolis, Nicole communicates with the duo on a secure line, while Sally Acorn attempts to reach outside sources, but to no avail, due to their outer communications being scrambled. Joining them is Dimitri and Julie-Su, the former who angrily states that the cause of interference must be Enerjak, and points out that Angel Island is now floating towards them. Nicole's camera probe arrives at a site, which Julie-Su infers is Cavem Canus, the Dingo city. As they watch, Enerjak blasts a wave of Chaos energy towards the Dingoes, destroying their weapons and other possessions, and finishes the job by banishing them to Sandopolis to join General Helmut Von Stryker. An enraged Kage Von Stryker confronts Enerjak, gloating that he'd rally his army again, and openly challenges the demigod to a fight. Enerjak proceeds to tear Kage's body apart molecule by molecule, killing him, and following up by destroying his city.
On another part of the island, the Flame and Frost Legions attempt to keep Enerjak at bay, and the demigod takes notice of Remington commanding the armies. Using Chaos energy, he restores the commander's memory and body to its previous state. He performs the same on the other Legionnaires (much to Lien-Da's anger) and declares that those who are thankful will be sent to Albion, while those who oppose shall remain on Angel Island.
Back in New Mobotropolis, Dimitri demands that the others to do something to stop Enerjak, and asks Nicole if she can create a weapon using the nanites of the city, with Nicole promptly refusing. Julie-Su interrupts, inquiring if the heroes have located Knuckles, to which Nicole gives her an update on Sonic and Tails' progress, where they have been experiencing difficulty infiltrating the Chaos Chamber. Julie-Su, on the verge of bursting into tears, furiously states that they need to work faster if they have hopes of seeing Knuckles alive. Amidst this, Dimitri decides to sneak out, intending to "cast his lot with the more powerful side". Sally finally manages to reach G.U.N. headquarters, answered by Rouge the Bat, and requests backup, to which Rouge responds that they will be sending their "newest and best agent", who was in the area, before the transmission cuts off.
Back on Angel Island, Sonic and Tails arrive in the Master Emerald Chamber, reporting to Nicole that Knuckles isn't there. As they leave, Dr. Finitevus comes out from the shadows, where he was concealing himself from the duo.
In the village inhabited by the survivors of Echidnaopolis' destruction, Enerjak arrives to the horror of the other Echidnas, stating his intentions to them, and teleporting them all to Albion. He then takes notice of Nicole's camera and crushes it (inflicting pain on Nicole in the process). Sonic arrives at the site just in time to see Enerjak, but fails to reach him before the demigod teleports away from the village. Nicole informs Sonic that Enerjak is outside of the city gates, and requests that he hurry back. Sonic immediately takes Tails in his arms (to avoid his companion possibly slowing him down), and the two rush back to the Tornado, taking off for New Mobotropolis.
In the city, Sally assembles the Knothole Freedom Fighters and Chaotix at the frontlines, preparing for Enerjak's arrival. During this, Mighty the Armadillo asks Julie-Su if she's okay, the tearful echidna replying that she is not, concluding that Knuckles is gone. Enerjak penetrates the city's forcefield and enters, explaining his intentions to make things right. A vengeful Julie-Su points her weapon at him, determined to make him pay for what he did to Knuckles, disregarding whatever will happen to her. Enerjak easily disarms her, and assures her that he would never harm her, as he removes his helmet, revealing Enerjak to be none other than Knuckles himself, much to the shock of the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix.

Archimedes has been watching the events unfold from a hidden corner in New Mobotropolis, and recollects how it all happened:
When Knuckles had arrived on Angel Island to help his father, he was ambushed and knocked out by the Destructix, who turned him over to the Flame and Frost Legions. The unconscious echidna was taken to the Master Emerald Chamber, where Dr. Finitevus, Lien-Da, and Remington were waiting. Knuckles demanded to know what was going on, but not before taking notice of Remington, who was unable to recognize him. Finitevus explained that he had rescued Remington from the Egg Grapes and restored him back to his health. The doctor proceeded to inform the room at large that 90% of the Echidna population has been wiped out by the efforts of the Dingo Army and Dr. Eggman, and that he outlined his plan on how to defend the surviving population using the power of the Master Emerald. Lien-Da openly assumed that she and Remington would be the wielders of that power. Suddenly, Knuckles sprinted up towards the Master Emerald, intent on protecting his people, and began to absorb its energy, while a powerful dark magic surrounded him. Lien-Da and Remington attempted to stop Knuckles, but both were held back by Finitevus, which revealed that this was his plan all along. Archimedes watched from a corner in horror, realizing what was happening to Knuckles. Remington and Lien-Da evacuated the chamber, with the latter threatening Finitevus that he would pay for his betrayal. Finitevus calmly walked up to Knuckles, who was surrounded by Chaos energy in a trance, telling him that he would help him harness his power, and then quizzed him on who possesses the ability to control the power of the gods, to which Knuckles responded "Enerjak", while the demigod's armor formed around his body.
Archimedes made an effort to reach out to Knuckles using his telepathy, but failed due to the corruptible power of Finitevus' hex.
