The Return[]

Synopsis[]

Part One[]

In the not too distant future, Sonic and Sally are playing outside with their children, Sonia and Manik. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning strikes the ground and Dr. Robotnik appears before them. Just as they show their disbelief, Robotnik disappears another flash of lightning. Queen Sally is worried that Robotnik has returned, but King Sonic assures her there's no way Robotnik could ever come back and what they saw was a "freak of nature".

Robotnik materializes on a space station, still in shock from being "vaporized" by E.V.E.. A voice welcomes him onto the ship, which reveals himself to be Robo-Robotnik. Robo-Robotnik tells Dr. Robotnik that they are they same person, just from alternate timelines. In his timeline, he roboticized himself to defeat Sonic. However, he only delayed his inevitable demise. To save himself, Robo-Robotnik uploaded his core memory to his incomplete space station. Unfortunately for Robo-Robotnik, he had no way to return to his robotic body and has spent years simply operating the station, waiting for his systems to eventually fail. Robotnik tells his Robotic counterpart all is not lost, and he has just suffered a defeat in a long war. Robotnik asks him to send him to the Trans-Dimensional Highway to go home and ensure he wins in his timeline. Robo-Robotnik re-calibrates his machine to send Robotnik Prime back and wishes him luck.

Part Two[]

The Freedom Fighters are rummaging through Robotnik's storage when Sally realizes things are going too smoothly. She wonders why Snively isn't keeping the empire moving, and Rotor suggests that Robotnik didn't trust Snively with enough information. Snively, watching from a monitor, throws a fit due to his inability to take control of his uncle's resources. In his frustration he cries out: "To think that Sonic has finally won it all!".

Suddenly, a monitor starts playing a pre-recorded message from Robotnik. The Freedom Fighters hear the message as Robotnik declares "If I can't have Mobius, neither will you!". He announces all of his SWATbots and other robots will turn Mobius into a wasteland. Sonic covers Sally as the Freedom Fighters are fired upon by SWATbots. Sonic destroys the 'bots but the other Freedom Fighters realize that they are surrounded.

Part Three[]

A pair of SWATbots confront Snively. He tries to reason with them, but due to the Operation: Wasteland program the robots are determined to destroy him along with the rest of the planet. Before a SWATbot can finish him off, Robotnik is teleported into the room. He shoots the SWATbots with his robotic arm for daring to target their master. Robotnik demands an explanation from Snively, to which he says it's not his fault and it's the work of some operation. Robotnik cuts him off, realizing his nephew inadvertently activated Operation: Wasteland, a fail safe program created in the event of his defeat. He also explains he did not tell Snively this program to prevent treachery.

Meanwhile, the Freedom Fighters are trying to ward off the SWATbot swarm, but there are too many robots for them to handle. Snively notes that the Freedom Fighters are finally going to end. Robotnik, realizing that letting the program continue would leave him without a world to conquer, aborts Operation: Wasteland, knowing full well he will regret this chance to defeat Sonic. As the Freedom Fighters start to leave, Snively notes how confused Sonic would be if he knew he owed his life to Robotnik. Robotnik realizes this is an opportunity to take a dig at Sonic's ego and sends the Freedom Fighters a message, telling them that he's the reason they're alive and that he has complete control over their "game". Sonic leaves angry as the Doctor declares they will fight again, when they least expect it.

Tails' Knighttime Story![]

Synopsis[]

Tails flies around his room like Sonic while Sally tries to calm him down so he can go to sleep. Tails complains about Sonic's life being non-stop action while he has to be left at home and babysat. Sally says Sonic's life is full of danger and hard work; it just looks fun from the outside. She explains her point by telling a fable.

Long ago, there was a brave knight known as Sir Runalot (Sonic). Runalot had a trusty page who polished his armor, Mortail (Tails). Mortail followed Sir Runalot everywhere and observed his various triumphs and romance, but he grew jealous of the blue knight and wanted more than anything to be like Runalot. One day, Runalot went on vacation and left Mortail to take care of his armor. Mortail saw this as an opportunity to live his dreams and decided to put on Sir Runalot's blue armor. While running around in the armor, two mobians ask for his help. One says he will shower him with gifts (Uncle Chuck), and the other saying she will shower him with kisses (Sally).

Mortail accepts and they take him to Sir Knightmare (Robotnik), of Robotannia who was looking for Sir Runalot. While Sir Knightmare charged at Mortail, the impostor tripped and took off his helmet. Mortail told Knightmare the truth: he wasn't Runalot but simply a nobody in Runalot's armor. Knightmare didn't believe Mortail and was about to attack when Runalot returned to save him. Sir. Runalot broke Sir Knightmare's mace and tricked him into running into a wall. Mortail tried to give Runalot his armor back, but Runalot discovered that he was faster without his armor.

Sally ends her story with the moral that being a hero isn't always fun, but is surprised to see Tails has gone missing. She looks around only to find him running around outside with Sonic's shoes. Tails decided that, like Mortail in the story, he should go take Sonic's stuff while he's sleeping so he can pretend to be him. Sally sighs and decides to stick with telling fairytales.
