You always hurt the one you love, Tails! And once you join Dr. Robotnik's club, I can love you to death!

— Auto Fiona, Sonic the Hedgehog #29

Auto-Fiona[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She is an Auto Automaton made and used by Dr. Ivo Robotnik to entrap Miles "Tails" Prower's heart.

Appearance[]

Auto-Fiona is an Auto Automaton model Badnik built by Dr. Ivo Robotnik based on the young mobian, Fiona Fox. She mirrors Tails and somewhat of pink Sally Acorn's design, remixing Tails' color scheme. She has brown, bowled-cut hair wearing a yellow ribbon, red fur with a cream colored belly, and a single fluffy tail. She shares the same height as Tails and only wears yellow shoes and white gloves. Unlike Tails, her clothing is tightly pressed.

History[]

Past[]

Auto-Fiona was created using the Auto Automaton technology when Fiona Fox was just a young child imprisoned in one of Dr. Ivo Robotnik's mining camps during the early days of the First Robotnik War. Given Dr. Robotnik had no immediate use for her model, it was not activated until years later when Tails left on his own adventure.[2]

Trapping the heart of Tails[]

Auto-Fiona calls for Tails

Auto-Fiona calls for Tails, from Sonic the Hedgehog #28.

After Sonic beaten up his friends in the previous story, Tails stormed off in anger. Sonic tried to explain that Robotnik tricked him when he had amnesia but Tails wasn't hearing it. His treatment of being a kid has gotten to him and he plans to head out on his own adventure to prove himself. He took out the Sea Fox and headed out to sea.

However, Dr. Ivo Robotnik installed a camera into a random tree near Knothole's dock and saw Tails taking off on his own. Seeing a chance to divide the Freedom Fighters, he activated Auto-Fiona out of her slumber.

While Tails was cruising out at sea, he came across an uncharted island not too far off from the Mobian Jungle. He heard a cry of distress coming from the island and valiantly went in to rescue. Immediately, he was heart-struck seeing Auto-Fiona, tied to a palm tree. Tails flew out of his Sea Fox in a daze and untied her. Auto-Fiona didn't hesitate and kissed Tails and they spent a romantic day together with each other. Robotnik was watching the whole thing and gagged at the corniness of his own plan, despite it working well. Auto-Fiona then lure Tails into a hidden Roboticizer and Tails couldn't help but easily falling for it after their date. Dr. Robotnik sinisterly appeared and closed the gate, catching the poor fox boy in his trap. Tails panicked and pleaded to Auto-Fiona to save him but her loyalty to master Dr. Robotnik would not waver and after the doctor gave the order, Auto-Fiona activated the Roboticizer.[3]

Rusted into paralysis[]

Tails escaped by clogging the machine with fur from his twin tails. He then tried to detain Robotnik, but he was stopped by Fiona, allowing Robotnik to escape. Tails was then attacked in various ways by Auto-Fiona, including punching him, trying to bludgeon him with a large club, finally tackling him into the sea and trying to drown him. But after a while of trying to drown him, the seawater surrounding the island finally leaked into Auto-Fiona's body and made her rust, paralyzing her. Tails then took Auto-Fiona out of the water and placed her on the island as a monument to his lost youth. Hoping someday when the Freedom Fighters capture Robotnik, they can make him fix Fiona.

Auto-Fiona get left behind

Auto-Fiona is left alone, from Sonic the Hedgehog #29.

Tails then began to clean up the litter Robotnik left behind, and came across a list of supplies that confirmed that Robotnik had plans for a satellite operation somewhere on the planet. At first, Tails thought he should call Princess Sally and tell her about it, but then believed that the other Knothole Freedom Fighters would leave him behind again if he did. Tails then decided to prove himself by going on this mission alone and returned home to Knothole in the Sea Fox. Auto-Fiona watched this, and what appeared to be a tear came from her eye as she watched Tails go away.[4]

Personality[]

Despite initially showing very amorous behavior towards Tails, Auto-Fiona's true nature was that of a robot who was totally loyal to Robotnik and, at times, displayed a very machine-like demeanor. That said, like several other Badniks, Fiona has some degree of personality; cracking mean jokes at Tails expense and showing obvious frustration at failing to roboticize Tails.

She was also programmed to be absolutely loyal to Dr. Robotnik and was very protective of her master.[3] It is also possible that she can experience warm feelings, as shown when Tails left the island, she let out a tear, indicating that she may have genuinely grown to care for him.[4]

Powers and abilities[]

Auto-Fiona rushes down Tails

Auto-Fiona protects her master, from Sonic the Hedgehog #29.

Auto-Fiona was skilled at social manipulation, easily outwitting a young Tails to fall in love with her in service of master Robotnik's plans.[3] She had comparable strength to Tails and competent in hand-to-hand combat, but unknown by how much due to Tails not fighting back. She could also use melee weapons such as clubs.[4]

Weakness[]

Auto-Fiona's only known and major weakness was the fact that she was not built to be waterproof. While attacking Tails, for some reason she wasn't ending the fight immediately and was giving Tails time to breath. She had the upper hand but she was standing waist deep in sea water and this hesitation caused Auto-Fiona to rust and become immobile.[4]

Relationships[]

Miles "Tails" Prower[]

And now I've enslaved the rest of you, Freedom Fighter! You wanted to be treated as an adult, eh? Welcome to the real world! Fire it up!

Auto-Fiona reveals she is a Badnik

Auto-Fiona reveals she is a Badnik, from Sonic the Hedgehog #28.

Auto-Fiona had no opinions or feelings for Tails, other than being her target.

"She" was built long ago by Dr. Ivo Robotnik to be used whenever the need arise. After being in storage for most of her existence, Auto-Fiona was finally brought out to trick a young Miles Prower to fall for her and lead him into a Roboticizer for her master's war games against the orphan children. She fought him on Robotnik's directive and almost drowned Tails before her body rusted from sea water.

However, after being pulled out of the water by Tails while crying for her, her last panel shows her shedding a tear before the story moved on to Fiona Fox.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik[]

A loyal Badnik, the Auto Automaton servantly obeys her master Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Auto-Fiona holds no greater feelings towards the doctor, only that her servitude is a matter of fact.

Trivia[]

  • Auto-Fiona's role in her debut is similar to that of Breezie in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. Both being robots used by Robotnik to trick a hero and said hero falling in love. Unlike Breezie, Auto-Fiona remained loyal to Robotnik.
  • While Auto-Fiona introduced herself as "Fiona", she was never given an official name apart from Robotnik referring to her as "Auto Automation". Later writer Ian Flynn (role-playing as Tails) called her "Auto-Fiona" in one of his Q&As.[1]
    • In said post, Tails said he never returned to repair auto Fiona as he realized she was a fake and that her feelings for him would've been fake too, especially after meeting the real Fiona, and that he's moved on, following the advice given to him by Sonic.
