The Avatar is a subject that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It refers to a being prophesied of by the Ancient Walkers together with the Chosen One and one other champion.
History
According to legend, the Avatar would return from beyond the grave in order to bring peace to Mobius, and possess the power to perform miracles. These signs point to Knuckles the Echidna as the most likely candidate for Avatar, though he does not willingly accept the role. Despite this, he is revered by the former inhabitants of Echidnaopolis and by members of the Dark Legion as the Avatar.[1][2][3][4] When Dr. Finitevus displayed a destructive and violent nature, some of the inhabitants of Albion theorized that he was perhaps a negative force of the Avatar, since he essentially became a photo-negative of Knuckles.[5]
Trivia
- When Knuckles is being praised as the Avatar, several signs say "S3:K" in the manner of Bible quotes.
- "S3:K" is a reference to the video game Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.
- Additionally, the legend of the Avatar seems to take many cues from the story of Jesus Christ.
