Plot[]

Sonic and Tails launch a secret infiltration of Robotnik's fortress in order to find and rescue the doctor's oldest prisoner—someone who's been locked away for 30 years! As the duo enter the dungeon (which resembles a robot torture chamber), Tails is suddenly startled by a large, hairy, Gossamer-like creature trapped in a cage; it turns out this is actually Lucas, the prisoner in question (being locked up by Robotnik doesn't exactly give you opportunities to monitor your personal hygiene). Upon freeing Lucas with a Sonic Spin, the alarm blares and several Octus badniks arrive. Luckily, Sonic defeats them with some quick thinking, and he & Tails escape with Lucas.

Robotnik, meanwhile, has been observing the events via a monitor screen, and orders Scratch and Grounder to prepare the "Egg Blaster". The Badniks comply and launch a rotten egg-bomb, but Sonic uses a borrowed mainspring to send it flying right back up and come splattering down on Robotnik. Scratch and Grounder try to stop him, but Sonic just sends them falling out the window with ease. The Badniks dealt with, Sonic heads to the river and regroups with Tails and Lucas, wanting to get some information on as to why Lucas was Robotnik's prisoner for three decades.

Lucas explains that the source of the conflict was back in high school, where he was lab partners with a girl named Lucinda, whom he was in love with. However, Robotnik was also in love with the girl, and wasn't willing to accept any competition. Naturally, Lucinda doesn't take to Robotnik's advances and makes it clear she is not interested in him. The teenage tyrant-in-training swears revenge, and shortly after was expelled.

After finishing his story, Lucas is certain that Lucinda wouldn't want anything to do with him, but Sonic is convinced that there's got to be a chance, and is determined to get Lucas and Lucinda together.

Back at Robotnik's fortress, Robotnik declares that no matter what, Lucas must be recaptured and returned to the dungeon, since he stole "the one thing he treasured most...besides having power and committing rottenness": Lucinda. Robotnik recounts a story similar to the one Lucas told, albeit with several differences, chief among them being his portrayal as suave, muscular and charming, not to mention Lucinda being attracted to him. After he recounts his self-serving memory, he wagers that Sonic and Lucas will be heading for the Mobius Jungle, where Lucinda teaches in a schoolhouse. Tempted by the promises of anything they want in exchange for Lucas's capture, Scratch and Grounder take off.

Grounder lays a snare trap, but Sonic comes by and says that it'll never work...before successfully tricking Grounder into setting off his own trap.

Lucas is despondent since they've been over half of the planet and haven't found anyone who knows of Lucinda's whereabouts. Sonic replies that this is just because they haven't asked the right person yet, and zips off. Sneaking up on Scratch and Grounder in Mobius Canyon, Sonic sabotages their efforts to trap him, leaving the two dimwitted robots the victims of their own scheme. Feigning pity, Sonic decides to "give them a hint" on where they're going. Incensed, Grounder blurts that they don't need him to tell, because they already know they're going to the Mobius Jungle. With that, Lucas's hope is restored, and Sonic, with friends in tow, takes off once again.

Cutting through the jungle foliage, Sonic, Tails and Lucas overhear Lucinda's voice while she teaches the alphabet to her students. Sneaking up to the window, they see Lucinda holding an old photo of Lucas, and a tear comes to her eye. It's certainly clear that she hasn't forgotten about her missing love.

At first, Lucas is still unsure if he can face Lucinda again after so long, but with some encouragement from Sonic, he works up the nerve to try and talk to her. But as he goes off to find her, he is suddenly bagged and captured by Scratch and Grounder!

After finding Scratch's footprints, Sonic and Tails head off in hot pursuit, and track the Badniks to a cavern. Lucas manages to get his feet free and attempts to make a break for it, but is caught, courtesy of Robotnik, in his Egg-O-Matic vehicle, who has him deposited inside the cave.

Soon, Sonic and Tails follow the footprints into the cave, the entrance of which has been laced with dynamite; Robotnik sets off the dynamite...as well as the enormous volcano the cavern is linked to! Convinced that Sonic and Lucas are good as dead, Robotnik heads off to the schoolhouse to find Lucinda.

Back in the flooding lava cavern, Sonic tunnels to the arctic regions of Mobius, and cuts out a giant ice block, which he uses to get them all out of the cave and to safety. Once they're out, Lucas wonders if Lucinda will actually marry Robotnik, because he's certain that he has nothing worthwhile to offer but "head lice and a bad haircut". Sonic gives Tails some scissors and styling gel to help fix Lucas up, while he goes to deal with Robotnik.

Back in the jungle, Robotnik approaches the schoolhouse, practicing his marriage proposal. After settling on a more forceful approach, he goes to knock, but the door opens to reveal Sonic, in disguise as Lucinda—red wig, wedding dress and all. When Robotnik makes his proposal, 'Lucinda' accepts.

At a church, Robotnik and 'Lucinda' stand before the priest, but as Robotnik goes in to kiss the bride, he finds a nasty surprise—it's Sonic under the veil! After burying Robotnik and the Badniks under a mountain of rice, Sonic takes the wedding cake and splatters it in Robotnik's face, then zips out of the disguise and uses the carpet to roll up Robotnik and his badniks, sending them rolling away.

That part of the job done, Sonic regroups with Lucas to give him the encouragement he needs to finally reunite with Lucinda. Seeing that their love is still as strong as it was 30 years ago, Sonic and Tails rush the couple off to get them finally married, with Sonic, as "Best Hedgehog".

Lucas and Lucinda respond, "You better believe it!", and Sonic gives a wink to the camera as the episode ends.

Sonic Says[]

Sonic tells the kids how wonderful reading is, then he tells them what they should do if they meet someone who is illiterate.

Goofs[]

  • In the scene when Tails is trying to convince Lucas to ask Lucinda to marry him; the collar of his shirt is tan.
  • When Robotnik meets Sonic disguised as Lucinda in a wedding dress thinking its actually her, Robotnik doesnt recognize him (he should easily have told the difference between the real Lucinda and Sonics disguise of her with his exposing blue fur, face and voice), then when he goes on to kiss the fake Lucinda he suddenly recognizes Sonic.
  • While Lucas is covered with his own hair, Lucas does not seem to be wearing a shirt, pants, shoes, or glasses, and his eyes are the same shape as Sonic's; but after his haircut, he is suddenly dressed in all of those clothing articles without any explanation.

Trivia[]

  • In some syndication, the fight in the flashback between Lucas and Robotnik is shortened.
  • Despite this episode's decent reception, this one was criticized for transvestism, including a scene where Sonic, disguised as Lucinda, tricks (and kisses) Robotnik at his last-minute wedding.
  • The Sonic Says segment in this episode is the most well-known in Japan, (similar to how the one in "Lovesick Sonic" is the most well-known in the USA) this may be in part to the second Japanese dub, which made the segment straight and to the point, the actress said she made Sonic sound very honest, and it revealed a lot of things about his personality.
  • Before his shave and haircut, Lucas resembles a smaller brown, shoe-less version of the Looney Tunes character Gossamer.
