These bird-like creatures can fire some kind of worm-like projectile. Interesting...

Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog

The Black Volt[1] (ブラックボルト[2] Burakku Boruto?, lit. "Black Bolt") is both an enemy and vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are aerial combat Black Arms equipped with tracking worms. When defeated, the player is able to climb onto them and ride them through midair.

Appearance[]

Black Volt are dark brown and red, like most members of the Black Arms. They also have gold armor, and wings with two protrusions on each one.

Overview[]

In Shadow the Hedgehog, the Black Volts are a more powerful version of the Black Hawks. They have the same attributes, but are armed with Worm Shooter that can be used in aerial combats, and they can fire energy waves by tilting and rushing their body.

Black Volts can be used as vehicles as well. To use it in gameplay, the player has to press Circle/Gamecube X Button/XboxB to get on it, hold A Button GameCube v2/Cross/XboxA to speed up, and press SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO/Square/XboxX to fire the Worm Shooter. Each Black Volt has a Health Gauge that depletes whenever it takes damage, until it empties, leaving the player to fall into a bottomless pit. Its health measures can be refilled using Damage Recover. The pilot of the Black Volt cannot ride it indefinitely though, meaning that it will leave the player in some parts of the Stages.
