For the Special Weapon in Sonic & Mega Man: Worlds Collide, see Black Wave (Special Weapon).

The Black Wave (ブラックウェーブ Burakku Uēbu?) is one of Rouge the Bat's special attacks in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. When performing this technique, Rouge strikes her opponent with a black ripple.

Rouge's pose when using Black Wave.

When performing the Black Wave, Rouge raises her left hand and twirls around herself once, while calling out the move's name. She will then form a series of harmful black ripples around her opponent. In gameplay, Black Wave targets the opponent wherever they might be and causes damage when it hits.

Black Wave is first performed by Rouge during the boss battle against her in the Hero story. Here, Rouge will begin using it after her health has been reduced to half, though the attack can better be avoid here.

Black Wave can only be performed by the player by playing as Rouge in the games' two-player mode. Additionally, Black Wave will disorient the opponent for a short while by disrupting the opposing player's controls. To use it, the player must press DreamcastB/SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO/Gamecube X Button on the ground after collecting 40 Rings. To use it again, the player has to collect another 40 Rings. In two-player mode, Black Wave is nearly impossible to avoid, unless the other player either uses Dig or Glide. In Sonic Adventure 2, Chaos can also perform the Black Wave under the same requirements.
