Plot[]

Team Sonic is watching Comedy Chimp make jokes on his show from a TV at Meh Burger when the power suddenly goes out across the Unnamed Village. Sticks believes Eggman is behind the blackout, to which Sonic agrees (while adding that agreeing with Sticks is not all that comfortable a feeling). They head to Eggman's lair, but Eggman denies his involvement in the power outage, as he needs power to run his robots (Orbot and Cubot are still active, however, because of their long battery life). Tails notes that he has a point, and the team confronts Mayor Fink in his mansion to ask him about what is happening. The Mayor lies that it is just a normal blackout, but Sticks can tell he is not being truthful; Sonic once again agrees with her (and wonders whether or not he should see a doctor as a result).

Finally forced to reveal the truth, Mayor Fink tells them that the village was powered by an Ancient crystal and opens a nearby wall panel to reveal the Meroke Crystal, which has been passed down from mayor to mayor, but seems to finally be drained of its power. Amy asks how they can recharge the crystal, and the Mayor hands Sonic a map showing the team the location of a replacement crystal. The next day, the team, dressed in winter clothing, sets out into a frigid area of Seaside Island some distance away from the village, with Tails writing a letter to Zooey as they progress. The snowy winds eventually get too strong for them to continue, and Sonic decides they should just use Blue Force One's snowmobile mode to get to their destination (to which Amy berates him for not telling them about it earlier).

Sonic runs to his shack and activates Blue Force One, switching it into snowmobile mode once he returns to the snowy area and driving back to the others; soon, they are being pulled by ropes attached to Blue Force One while riding snowboards, eventually reaching a pair of temple doors. Amy reads the sign written in Ancient dialect just beside the door (having taken a night class): "Strength and logic will lead you astray. If you want to enter, try the lazy way." True enough, Sonic's attempt to use his spin attack on the doors to force them open only succeeds in covering them all in snow (thus ruining Tails' letter and forcing him to start over), and Tails attempts to solve a puzzle near the door, but states it will take centuries. Hearing this, Knuckles lazily sits on a nearby rock, which triggers the doors to open and validates the riddle.

Inside, the team finds a Stone Guardian, who tells them they must solve three riddles and avoid three obstacles in order to get the replacement crystal (and that the riddle outside did not count). They accept his challenge (though not before Sticks makes a futile effort to move him out of the way), and he disappears, allowing them to enter the next room. Another Guardian asks them to answer how many sides a circle has, with the room filling with poisonous red gas soon after. Tails incorrectly answers that a circle only has one side and is soon smothered by the gas. Knuckles says that a circle has two sides, inside and outside, which turns out to be the right answer; the gas dissipates and Tails recovers.

Team Sonic enters the next room, where the Guardian inside asks what passes high and low over the sun but does not cast a shadow before the floor begins to part, revealing spikes. Tails and Sonic chime in with their answers, but guess incorrectly as space for the team to stand begins to run out. Knuckles says that they are "about to be dust in the wind", and the Guardian accepts "wind" as the correct answer, with the floor returning to normal. In the next room, the final Guardian asks Team Sonic for something that makes no sound and is broken once its name is said, and six other Guardians phase through the walls in a closing circle around them. As the team attempts to force the Guardians back to no prevail, Sticks pressures Knuckles to come up with another answer, with the echidna yelling at her for silence so he can think of one. "Silence" is the correct answer, and the surrounding Guardians promptly disappear.

Entering the final room at last, they find the replacement Meroke Crystal on a pedestal, and Sonic attempts to switch it with an idol of the same weight, but to no avail; the temple begins to shake, with Tails telling them that it is about to collapse. They quickly escape the crumbling temple just as it collapses, with Sonic returning to Blue Force One and the others to their snowboards. Despite losing their grip on it twice, the team descends to safe ground with the crystal undamaged.

Team Sonic returns to the Village to find the villagers rioting; they meet back up with a sleeping Mayor Fink, who is promptly awakened by their return and is surprised to see they did so, unlike the last party he sent. Knuckles plugs the new Meroke Crystal into the wall panel, its energies restoring power to the village and thus bringing an end to the rioting outside. Team Sonic exits the mansion, with Sonic crediting Knuckles' unexpected smarts for saving the day (and immediately retracting his statement when Knuckles responds in an unintelligent manner).

Continuity[]

Goofs[]

  • When Team Sonic knocks down the door to Eggman's lair, the door itself is positioned much further ahead of its doorframe when it falls down.
  • While Team Sonic is in Eggman's lair, the entrance to the lair is shown to be right next to the lair's living room. In earlier episodes, the entrance is nowhere near the living room.

Trivia[]

The scene inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  • The scene featuring Sonic's retrieval of the Meroke Crystal in the temple is a reference to the iconic opening of the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • Amy's mention of "Inspector 34" is a reference to the 1993 Nickelodeon TV series The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
  • Tails saying that he considered wearing pants for the first time in his life is a reference as to how no incarnation of Tails has been designed with pants.
  • Sonic saying that he was expecting Bounce Pads to be an obstacle in the temple might be a reference to the criticism the Bounce Pads received in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
  • Technology that draws power from crystals is very similar to how the Ancients, a race of technologically advance beings, used the Chaos Crystals as a source of energy to live in harmony with nature in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
  • The Ice Cream Vendor's threat about making his cart explode by flipping it over may be a nod to the running gag in the show where the Ice Cream Vendor's cart gets blown up one way or another.
  • The music that is played when Sonic uses Blue Force One in snowmobile mode is similar to the song "Born to be Wild".
