Blaze the Cat is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. She is an anthropomorphic cat, a princess from another dimension, and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds.
Blaze is a lavender-furred, anthropomorphic cat with gold eyes. Her muzzle is white, her inner ears are peach colored and the tip of her long tail dark purple. Her fur is longer on each side of her head and sweeps slightly upwards. She has four plumes of "hair" done up in a high ponytail with dark purple tips.
For attire, she wears a long, purple, flared, mantle-like coat of sorts with a dark pink hemline, white tights, a gold collar, a red hairband and a similarily red gem on her forehead. She also wears white gloves with fuzzy cuffs and high heeled dark pink shoes with white stripes and also fuzzy cuffs.
For some unknown period of time, Blaze has been the guardian of the Sol Emeralds. When she first met Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends, Blaze, being a loner, was a bit "defensive" about approaching them. However, Blaze eventually warmed up to them, who became her first real friends. Eventually, she became acquainted with Sonic, whom ended up becoming a trusted ally of hers.
While in her home world, Blaze felt the will of the Sol Emeralds, which instructed her to journey to Sonic's world to prevent a “terrible event”. After arriving, within the hometown of Tangle the Lemur, she teamed up with Sonic and his aforementioned new friend in disposing of Dr. Eggman's Badniks raiding the village. After the situation was dealt with, and after some introductions between the cat and the lemur, Blaze explained to Sonic her reason for being on his world, to which Sonic broke the news that she was “about seven months too late” to prevent the event she mentioned (believing that she was referring to Eggman’s worldwide takeover, which had already ended). However, as Tangle noted that Eggman’s robots becoming more organized could be a sign that something “even worse” was on the way, Blaze reasoned that the Sol Emeralds would still have a purpose for directing her there, and that she would remain there until that purpose became clear, to which Sonic wholeheartedly agreed.
The Battle for Angel Island
Eventually, Blaze was called to Resistance HQ. There, she and the Resistance's other allies were informed that the Resistance needed their help to liberate Angel Island, which had been conquered by Neo Metal Sonic and turned into a flying fortress. To make matters worse, Neo had also secured the Master Emerald for himself on the island. While Amy presented the group with her battle plan, Blaze offered a more direct approach: let her become Burning Blaze with the Sol Emeralds and allow her to confront Neo. However, Tails convinced Blaze that it was not wise, given that Neo could potentially copy Blaze's powers and become too powerful. Instead, Blaze was tasked with helping one faction of the group break the Egg Fleet's control over the island while Sonic and Knuckles confronted Neo.
On their way to Angel Island, Blaze had a talk with Amy. When Blaze wondered if their lonesome ally Whisper could be trusted, Amy reminded her that she used to be a lone wolf herself. Reflecting on how far she had come, Blaze agreed with Amy that they would win the day after assuring her that she would be careful. When the Egg Fleet then began bombarding their ship, Blaze had to abandon the ship and begin her attack. Using the Sol Emeralds, she became Burning Blaze and started attacking the Egg Fleet's vessels while thinking about how far she would go to protect her friends. She was soon after contacted by Amy, and told her that she would be with the others soon. As her battle against the Egg Fleet continued however, Blaze noticed that her transformation was beginning to run out. Seeking to finish her part of the plan now, Blaze channeled the last of her strength into a massive attack that blew the Egg Fleet's left wing unit on Angel Island off the island. Her powers drained, Blaze de-transformed and landed on Angel Island.
As Angel Island began to fall, Blaze wondered if she caused this. She soon after met up with the rest of her team onboard an Egg Fleet battleship that Tails had secured, during which Amy informed her that the island's descent was due to the absence of the Master Emerald. Knuckles later contacted them to request Burning Blaze's help, but Blaze revealed that she could not transform again due to the Sol Emeralds being low on power. When Master Overlord (a transformation Neo Metal Sonic had achieved with the Master Emerald) then attacked the battleship, Blaze joined her allies in a midair assault on Master Overlord, whom they forced closer to Angel Island while Knuckles focused on removing the Master Emerald from Master Overlord's body. During the battle, Blaze got shaken off Master Overlord, but was rescued by Silver with his psychokinesis. Knuckles subsequently got the Master Emerald away from Master Overlord and brought it back to Angel Island, returning the island to the sky while Master Overlord powered down to normal. With the battle over, Blaze was brought down on Angel Island where she thanked Whisper for her aid.
Cool, collected, solemn, and serious in battle, Blaze is a noble soul. Initially, she was a bit of a loner and somewhat defensive. However, she eventually warmed up to the concept of friendship and became more sociable and positive as a result of her new relationships. She has since come to cherish the friendships she has made and will do anything to keep her friends safe despite having only known them for a short time.
Blaze typically maintains a dignified bearing, though despite the impression this, along with her royal status, may leave on others, she dislikes being referred to by titles such as "Princess" or "Your Majesty," and would rather be called by her own name. She also holds trust in the Sol Emeralds, and does not deviate from the tasks they cause her to undertake until uncovering the purpose behind those tasks.
Powers and abilities
Blaze is a skilled fighter, gifted with the ability to create and control fire. With her pyrokinesis, Blaze can conjure up flames at any place on or all over her body for various offensive effects, such as turning herself into a burning projectile, forming a cloak of flames, shoot beams of fire, or increase the damage of the blows she deals. She can also use her flames to propel herself forward, thereby increasing her speed and/or granting her limited flight.
By harnessing the power of the seven Sol Emeralds, Blaze can transform into Burning Blaze. In this state, all of Blaze's abilities far surpass her normal ones. She is also able to fly without the aid of her pyrokinesis and is invulnerable to harm. Her pyrokinetic abilities are also greatly amplified. However, this transformation consumes a lot of energy, meaning it cannot be maintained for long.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Blaze and Sonic have known each other for some time, as seen by Sonic's introduction of Blaze to Tangle. The two seem to get along well with Sonic claiming he could count on Blaze. In addition, they seem to coordinate with each other well in combat.
Tangle the Lemur
Tangle seems to look up to and admire Blaze, as she finds her abilities and status as a princess amazing. Blaze was able to fight together with Tangle, despite their personalities being a bit different. Tangle showed gratitude to Blaze for helping save her town, and when Blaze offered to help calm the many flames in Tangle's hometown, Tangle was very appreciative.
