The Blue Typhoon
The Blue Typhoon (ブルータイフーン号 Burū Taifūn-gō?) is a vessel that appears in the anime series Sonic X. It is a large blue starship made by Tails. The Blue Typhoon was created mainly for space-travel when the team had to go with Cosmo into outer-space to stop the Metarex and their malicious schemes.
Description
The Blue Typhoon features a large hangar where several aircrafts are kept. Directly in front of this is a runway with palm trees lining it, modeled after the Thorndyke residence driveway. The vessel is armed with laser cannons, missile launchers, and its main weapon, the Sonic Power Cannon, which fires Sonic as an accelerated projectile. In Episode 77, it's shown that the cannon can also work as a wave motion gun. The Blue Typhoon also comes equipped with a powerful energy projector which can produce a deflector shield or a cloaking field. Its engine, the Warp Field Driver, which takes up much of the vessel, allows it to travel at faster-than-light speeds.

Metarex Saga
Originally built to battle vessels created by Doctor Eggman, the Blue Typhoon was adapted for space travel. Tails intended to power it with the Chaos Emeralds, but when they were scattered across the galaxy, Sonic and the others decided to use the Master Emerald instead despite initial objections from Knuckles. The Metarex hears of this and they send out robots in attempt to destroy the ship. Sonic and Knuckles kept the robots company while Tails and Chris prepare to launch the ship. After a few close calls between the Blue Typhoon's fate of launching successfully or its destruction, the ship finally launches into the air and demonstrated its Sonic Power Cannon for the first time, shooting down the Metarex robots.
Trivia
- The Blue Typhoon's design may have been influenced by the ships from Space Battleship Yamato, especially the Andromeda from that series. While the Blue Typhoon's flight deck resemble the flight deck of Battle 7 from Macross 7, where the VF-11 Thunderbolt III (to which the X-Tornado resembles) are launched.
- The Blue Typhoon's runway, with palm trees lining it, is a reference to Sonic Adventure, where the runway for the Tornado at Tails' lab is lined with palm trees that lean over when activated.
- The chute leading down to an aircraft's cockpit, the section of runway lifting up to hide thrust burns and the descending trees are also a reference to the iconic take-off of Thunderbird 2 from the show Thunderbirds.
- Blue Typhoon is also the name of a transformation of the Sonic Speedster in the Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack of LEGO Dimensions.
