Blue Wisps have sharp minds and make excellent leaders. Whenever they decide to do something big, the Blue Wisps are almost always successful. Their powers allow Sonic to become indestructible as the Blue Cube for a short while.

— Description of the Blue Wisp, Sonic Colors[1]

The Blue Wisp (ブルーウィスプ Burūuisupu?) is a type of Wisp that is exclusive to the Wii version of Sonic Colors. They grant the Blue Cube Color Power.

Appearance

Blue Wisps have a cube-shaped bodies with three yellow eyes. They also have three short, rectangular triangled-shaped tentacles stemming from the bottom of their bodies.

Game appearances

Sonic Colors

The Blue Wisps made their first appearance on both versions of Sonic Colors, though they only appear during cutscenes on the Nintendo DS version. When their homeworld was moved to Earth by Dr. Eggman in order to create his interstellar amusement park, the Blue Wisps and the rest of their race were threatened to be enslaved by Eggman, who wanted their Hyper-go-on to control the minds of everyone on Earth using a weapon. Fortunately, the Blue Wisps and the rest of their race were all saved thanks to Sonic the Hedgehog. After Dr. Eggman's Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park imploded into a black hole, the Blue Wisps worked together with the rest of their race in stopping the black hole and succeeded, before returning with their homeworlds to their original place in the universe.

The Blue Wisps appear in Sweet Mountain, Starlight Carnival, Planet Wisp, Aquarium Park and Asteroid Coaster on the Wii version of the game.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games

The Blue Wisps made an appearance in the Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games during the Dream Event, Sonic's Figure Skating Spectacular. Here, a Blue Wisp is one of the Wisps that the four participating characters free from a Wisp Capsule as the player(s) proceed down the event's course. When the player then has to defeat the Rotatatron, the Blue Wisp appears and joins the other Wisps that were freed during the event and later the four characters in perform the Final Color Blaster, which deals the final blow on the Rotatatron.

Personality

Blue wisps have sharp minds and make excellent leaders. Whenever they decide to do something big, the Blue Wisps are almost always successful.[1]

Powers and abilities

The Blue Wisps are able to levitate in midair at will, which serves as their main method of transportation.

The Blue Wisps are able to generate and store their own unique variant of a powerful energy known as Hyper-go-on inside their own bodies, which is their life source. It is unclear to what extent they can use their own Hyper-go-on, though they have been shown being able to use it to revert Nega-Wisps back to normal, teleport objects and restrain black holes made of Hyper-go-on.

The Blue Wisps are able to pass on a fraction of their Hyper-go-on to other beings by phasing into their body, which allows them to transform into the Blue Cube which can swap Blue Rings and Blue Blocks or release volatile vibrations.

The Blue Wisps made an appearance in the Archie Comics' adaption of Sonic Colors, in Sonic the Hedgehog #219.

In the comics, some Blue Wisps and a few other Wisps were chased by Orbot, Cubot and a pack of Egg Pawns. Fortunately, Sonic arrived, and destroyed the Egg Pawns in a flash, thus sending Orbot and Cubot running, though with some Blue Wisps of their own. A Blue Wisp then joined Sonic, Tails, Yacker and some other Wisps, as Sonic ventured out to save the Wisp race from Eggman.

Trivia

  • The Blue Wisps are one of the only Wisps besides the Red Wisps and the Gray Wisps to have three eyes.
  • The Blue Wisps' high intelligence may allude to how the player must apply strategy when using the Blue Cube, as using the Blue Wisps' Color Power allows the player to create their own platforms and paths with Blue Blocks and Blue Rings. At the same time, using the Blue Wisps' Color Power recklessly could be troublesome for the player, such as the player falling through a platform of Blue Blocks turned into Blue Rings by acciently using the Blue Cube.
