The Bunyip[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He a mobian Bunyip, and a legendary monster from Downunda.

Appearance[]

The Bunyip resembles a large humanoid mobian, with gray skin, green eyes, two irregular brown horns on its head, two large fins running down its back, flipper-like feet, and a large finned tail.[2]

History[]

Past[]

The Bunyip originally resided peacefully in a large body of water located in Downunda, but following Crocbot's invasion of the continent, was forced into a small lake blocked by a dam. Due to his extreme confinement, the Bunyip became extremely hostile towards anyone in the vicinity, and would attack them in search of Crocbot, although he never ended up finding his captor.[2]

Myth Taken Identity[]

Following their rejection from the Downunda Freedom Fighters, Daredingo, Ram Merino, and two other applicants walked across Downunda, conversing with each other. However, they accidentally entered Bunyip's area, causing him to lash out at them. But one of the applicants, a unnamed kookaburra, managed to escape, and alert the Downunda Freedom Fighters. The Downunda Freedom Fighters then set out to locate the Bunyip, only for him to ambush them, and capture Walt Wallaby and Barby Koala. However, due to Barby being able to speak in the ancient dialect the Bunyip used, she was able to convince him to release them, and explain his aggression. After hearing his tale, the Downunda Freedom Fighters used several bombs left over from Crocbot's invasion to destroy the dam, freeing the Bunyip, and calming his aggression. The Bunyip then returned to the waters he was originally from, praising the Downunda Freedom Fighters for their work and kindness.[1][3][2]

Scrambled[]

Over a year later, the Bunyip would be swimming behind Duck "Bill" Platypus, who was preparing a speech to his people regarding Eggman's supposed "demise".[4]

Personality[]

Although generally peaceful, the Bunyip, can grow quite enraged when confined to small areas against his will.[2]

Powers and abilities[]

In addition to his incredible strength, the Bunyip is capable of speaking in ancient Aboriginal dialect.[2]
