The Buzzer is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is a mass-produced, hornet-based Badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik. They are among the first generation of Badniks Robotnik produced and threatened Mobius' people for much of his reign.

Appearance[]

Modeled after hornets, Buzzers greatly resemble Buzz Bombers as a result. Their body is split into three main components, like real insects, with their rear end red with black stripes and having a stinger laser, their body is a metallic grey and it has two jet packs attached to it, and their heads are yellow with white antennae sticking out. At the same time, inversely colored models exist, having red heads with yellow and black ends.

History[]

A Buzzer was responsible for overlooking Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower while they were in the Brain Drain Machine, informing Dr. Robotnik of their escape upon Sonic breaking free.[1] Some Buzzers and a squadron of Badniks later found Tails. During their attempt to catch him though, they got smashed as Tails outmaneuvered them.[2] The Buzzers were also among the Badniks the Marxio Brothers used against Knuckles the Echidna in an attempt to defeat him, though the echidna managed to take all of them down.[3][4]

During Robotnikcon One, several Buzzers were created from the visitors using a Badnik Processing Plant, but before anything else could go wrong, Sonic destroyed it.[5] A Buzzer, powered by a bird, was later sent with other Badniks to attack the inhabitants of Emerald Hill Zone by Dr. Robotnik, but got destroyed by Shortfuse the Cybernik upon its arrival.[6] Tails was also later confronted by a group of Buzzers which he later defeated, leading him to free the animals inside and meeting Tantrum.[7]

When the Palmtree Panic Zone Badniks took over the Green Hill Zone in a violent raid, a wounded Buzzer escaped the carnage with the help of B.A.R.F., who subsequently used its parts to create the Seven Badniks, namely the Buzzorgy.[8] Another set of Buzzers got shot down by Shortfuse the Cybernik himself during a mission to the Metropolis Zone.[9]

During a confrontation with Commander Brutus and the Freedom Fighters, several Buzzers were present on the scene in order to assist the latter in combat.[10][11] When later being forced to work for Snooty and Sneaky, Sonic spotted and battled some Buzzers.[12] On an another day, Sonic and his allies were battling some Buzzers, but two of them started retreating. With Sonic giving chase, he failed to catch them when he got stuck in some pink substance.[13]

In order to silence rebels in Metropolis City, several Buzzers, along with other Badniks, were unleashed to take care of any rebels until a global electromagnetic created by Super Sonic made them shut down.[14][15]

As Robotnik seemingly started to experiment with new Badnik designs, the Buzzers were forgotten. However, old Buzzers models which Robotnik had ceased building years ago was acquired by Big Bill Screwloose, a duck eager to make the citizens of Sunshine Valley Zone lose faith in heroes. Reprogramming them, Screwloose unleashed the Buzzers on the villagers and had them lose to him so people would praise him.[16]

Powers and abilities[]

Outside of flight, Buzzers are capable of blasting flames out of their stingers.[7]
