Captain Whisker

And so, it is I! The Dread Pirate Whisker! — Captain Whisker

Template:Character Captain Whisker (ウィスカー船長, Uisukā Senchou^?) is a villainous robotic pirate who appeared in Sonic Rush Adventure, and is the primary antagonist of the game. An evil pirate captain who is somewhat hard to detest due to his clownish nature, he was created by Doctor Eggman Nega for the purpose of finding and obtaining the Jeweled Scepter, but was defeated by Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies.

History

Captain Whisker was created at some point prior to the events of Sonic Rush Adventure by Dr. Eggman Nega. Following his creation, Whisker was put in charge of his own robot pirate crew, miniature army and navy forces that had been constructed by the combined efforts of both Eggman Nega and Dr. Eggman, and was assigned the mission by to find the Jeweled Scepter in the Sol Dimension by the doctors, which the doctors needed to unlock the Power of the Stars.

After beginning their search for the Jeweled Scepter on Blaze's world, Whisker and his crew wasted no time and began causing havoc on the seas, spreading their hostile robot hordes across the various islands and infesting the waters with their fleets. At some point, Whisker and his forces set up their hideout in the ancient ruins on Pirates' Island, remodeling the ruins to fit their needs. Eventually, Whisker and his crew managed to obtain the Jeweled Scepter, but then lost it under unspecified circumstances.

After losing the Jeweled Scepter, Whisker and his crew continued to look for the scepter again. While looking for it, Whisker caught the news that Sonic the Hedgehog was running around messing with his forces, much to the robotic captain's irritation.

Whisker and his crew eventually managed to track the Jeweled Scepter to the depths of Coral Cave. After entering the caves, Whisker finally found the Jeweled Scepter and laughed out in glee over his success, before ordering Mini & Mum to seize the scepter. Just then, Whisker found Sonic, Marine and Tails arriving, with Marine starting to ask Whisker questions. Whisker, however, refused to say anything, and threatened them to stay away while revealing how Sonic had been a thorn in his side. No sooner, Marine pulled his whiskers fasination, sending Whisker into a fury as he knocked Marine away and promised her retribution, before he barely avoided a surprise attack from Blaze the Cat. Seeing that Sonic and Blaze had begun talking and ignoring him, Whisker unleashed the Ghost Kraken on them, before escaping with his crew and the Jeweled Scepter while they were distracted.

Following their escape, Whisker and his crew arrived at Haunted Ship, where they eventually encountered Sonic and the others again. At first, Whisker could not quite remember Sonic and his friends, but after being reminded that they were the ones who pulled his whiskers, Whisker promised them revenge for what they did to his whiskers. As Blaze demanded the Jeweled Scepter back, Whisker told her that she would have to take it from him by force and ordered the Ghost Pirate to attack them. After the Ghost Pirate was defeated, Whisker escaped with his crew.

At some point after leaving Haunted Ship, Whisker and his crew traveled to Blizzard Peaks where they met the Vikings, who they came into conflict with and began fighting. Whisker, however, managed to end their fight by freezing the Vikings solid with machines. After having resided on Blizzard Peaks for a while following their battle with the Vikings, Whisker found Sonic and his friends arriving at the scene where the Vikings were frozen. Seeing Sonic and the others wondering about who could have done this, Whisker appeared before them, admitting to them proudly that he was the one responsible, though he had to be reminded of why he did it by Mini. Upon unanimously decision from his crew to freeze Sonic and his friends solid, Whisker unleashed the Ghost Whale on them. Sonic and Blaze however, managed to destroy the Ghost Whale, where Whisker order his crew to retreat and managed to escape.

At another point after leaving Haunted Ship, Whisker and his crew traveled to Sky Babylon in order to destroy the ancient ruins there to get rid of any clues to where their hideout, only to Sonic and his friends after arriving there. Appearing before them, Whisker expressed his impression at them for making it up to the ruins, and tried to reveal Sky Babylon's name to them, but could not recall it and had to be reminded of it by Mini and Mum. When he felt ignored as Sonic and the others starting to talk between themselves of Sky Babylon, Whisker was almost goaded into a fight with them, but was quickly reminded of their mission by Mum and quickly took off with his crew to complete it. After having been chased across Sky Babylon, Whisker decided to retreat and escaped with his crew.

After traveling to Blizzard Peaks and Sky Babylon, Whisker and his crew withdrew to their hideout on Pirates' Island. When Sonic and his friends tried to access the island through its doors, Whisker appeared before them and praised them for making it this far, before gloating that they would never get through the island's impervious doors. However, when Marine asked him how to unlock the doors, Whisker accidently blabbered out how to unlock them and where to find the keys to it when he tried to refuse answering, before quickly escaped with his crew before he could revel more secrets.

Some time later inside the hideout, Whisker met Sonic and the others again. Upon meeting them, Whisker and his crew gave them a bellicose presentation, before being told by Blaze to cease his shenanigans and return the Jeweled Scepter, but his attempts to get angry at her failed when he realized he did not know what "shenanigans" meant. Johnny then arrived and explained it to Whisker, which only made the captain angrier, before he listened to Johnny's explanation for coming. As Johnny suggested a final fight, Whisker stepped forward, not wanting Johnny to steal his thunder and challenged Sonic and Blaze to battle.

Teaming up with Johnny, Whisker fought Sonic and Blaze, but was defeated. With Johnny abandoning him and having been cornered, Whisker remains reluctant to give up the Jeweled Scepter, fearing Eggman Nega's wrath should he fail to return with it. Calling for help, Whisker found Mini and Mum coming to his aid, having conveyed an escape hole and Whisker managed to escape through it. After escaping, he was met by Marine, who had come alone to stop him, and Whisker attempted to bail from her.

Back on his ship, Whisker managed to capture Marine when she tried to sneak up on him. Annoyed with her insults, Whisker decided to torture Marine by tickling her with the Ghost Titan. Just then, Sonic and Blaze arrived and demanded Marine back from Whisker, but Whisker told them that he would only release her if they swore loyalty to him. After awaiting their response, Whisker was tricked by Tails into believing that the Jeweled Scepter was somewhere else on the ship, allowing Sonic and Blaze to rescue Marine. As the Ghost Titan was destroyed, the entire ship exploded, and Whisker, along with his entire crew, sank to the bottom of the sea and was presumed to be destroyed.

Personality

Captain Whisker is a downright evil, but bumbling pirate. He has a short temper, which can make him literally steam with anger and sometimes get the better of him when on missions, and he is known to hold life-long grudges. He has no qualms about hurting, torturing and even killing those that stands in his way and does so without any sense of remorse. He also possesses various stereotypical pirate mannerisms, particularly speech patterns.

For all his evil ways, Whisker is a generally clownish. Thought he is a bit smarter than the rest of his crew, Whisker's behavior sometimes borders on being dim-witted, and people such as Blaze thinks he is a joke. He is quite forgetful, often forgeting what he is doing and has done, his reasons for committing his crimes, the name of the ancient ruins he just traveled to and who Sonic and the others are. He is likewise clueless on certain subjects, such as what the word "shenanigans" means and he can make threatening demands that he has no idea of what means.  As such, Whisker relies on his crew to remind him of what he has forgotten and to tell him what he cannot figure out himself. Whisker is also easily tricked and mislead, given that he completely fell for Tails' trap by simply claiming that the Jeweled Scepter was in another location on his ship. He also tends to talk too much, usually giving away important information like how to unlock the door in the undersea cavern leading to Pirates' Island.

When standing before his foes, Whisker tries to make an imposing and superior stance, mocking his foes while laughing right in their faces. Because of his incompetent ways, however, he appears as less stern when not having his crew to back him up.

Whisker has a sense of showmanship directed at bolstering his ego as the scourge of the seas, given that he and his crew had presentation ready when Sonic, Tails and Blaze arrived at Pirates' Island. In line with his, he hates being ignored, especially when talking to someone.

Whisker is rather fond of his metallic whiskers and is very focused on grooming them and having them just as he wants them to the point where he gets furious when they are just a quarter-inch off-center ^{[citation needed]}. He takes a special dislike of any characters who have pulled on his whiskers, and mocking them sends him into a fury.

Powers and Abilities

Whisker is an incredible force to be reckoned with in battle, given that he was, with some assistance of Johnny, able to take on both Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat, who are some of the strongest characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, at the same time. His entire body is immensely durable and heavy, allowing him to induce ground-shaking pounds that releases shock waves by smashing it the ground, and to be completely unaffected by both Sonic and Blaze's attacks when guarding against them head-on. He possesses as well above average physical strength, enough to grab and throw Johnny at incredible speeds with just one hand. He also appears to somewhat agile, being capable of jumping several storeys into the air and performing body flips while in midair.

Besides physical abilities, Whisker also has some armaments build into himself. He is able to breath a powerful and destructive torrent of flames from his mouth, and his can shoot his fist off his arms as dangerous projectiles, which will eventually return to him like boomerangs.

Archie Comics

Captain Whisker first appeared in the Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series and its spin-offs in an adaption of Sonic Rush Adventure.

In the comics, Whisker is a member of Dr. Eggman Nega's various forces. Whisker was assigned by Nega to collect a Chaos Emerald on Seagull Island. After stealing the Chaos Emerald, however, he, Johnny and Dr. Eggman Nega were tracked down by Sonic, Tails, Blaze and Marine, and were defeated. Some time later, Whisker attempted to steal a Sol Emerald from Captain Metal, but was forced into retreat.

Trivia

• Whisker bears a great deal of resemblance to Dr. Eggman Nega and Dr. Eggman.
• Whisker refers to himself at one point as "The Dread Pirate Whisker". This is a reference to the movie, The Princess Bride, in which a character called "the Dread Pirate Roberts" is referred to.
