Chaos Spear is a technique where Shadow channels raw yellow-orange energy and then fires it as an energy bolt. Once manifested, the Chaos Spears are substantial enough to get embedded in surfaces.
Firing the Chaos Spears can be done in different ways. One method includes Shadow just thrusting his hands forward to fire them as arrows. Others methods include hurtling a cascade of bolts into the sky in an energy burst so they rain down, or shooting them in the midst of a spin attack.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric
The Chaos Spear made its first appearance in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. In this game, Shadow uses this technique during the second and third phase of the boss battle against him in the Abandoned Research Facility. Whenever he uses it, he shouts "Chaos Spear."
During the battle, Shadow can fire several Chaos Spears directly at the player. When fired, these Chaos Spears will home slightly in on the playable characters. Alternatively, Shadow will shoot Chaos Spears into the air so their rain down around and get embedded in the ground round him. These Chaos Spears will damage the player should they touch them as they charge, and when they dispatch, they will explode in a red aura that can damage to the player.
Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom
In Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, the Chaos Spear is the Special Power of Shadow. Originally, this move was designated as the Chaos Blast, but that was changed during later updates to the game, possibly due to Shadow calling his Dash "Chaos Blast", and to avoid contradiction with Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
When using the Chaos Spear in gameplay, Shadow shoots an inflamed ball projectile down his lane that can destroy enemies and detonate mines (thereby causing a chain reaction that destroys nearby enemies and triggers other mines) in front of him on the ground. To perform the Chaos Spear, the player must swipe down on the screen.
