Chemical Plant (ケミカルプラント Kemikarupuranto?) is the second Stage in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. It represents Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the Genesis Era. It is based off of the original zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Gameplay

Act 1

Classic Sonic starts out next to two roads leading a quarter of the level then leading into a new place a mechanical room with machine claws controlling the place leading to the original Mega Mack rising. When escaping, the player will run through a loop, thereby causing him to hit the Goal Plate.

Red Star Rings locations

  1. From the beginning of the level do not jump on any of the "secret" moving platforms. Just continue your path straight and let the red bumpers lead you to your destination. Once you finally stop you will see a Red Ring in front of you and the tube leading onward.
  2. Go back to the beginning of the level, take the high road. You will see a tunnel area where you want to land on the top (use the platforms if you need help!) Continue along the straight forward path (one yellow spring) and once you reach the second area guarded by the moving Blue water/jelly you will see the second Red Star Ring.
  3. As you keep along the top path you pass a checkpoint (after the double 3 springs and one enemy [watch out!]). Once you pass the checkpoint you have to spindash past some blue boxes (the game tells you) and you reach an area where moving platforms guide you up. WARNING: you can fall through the waterfall/slide to miss the red ring. So now basically take your time for each jump and the ring is floating right there.
  4. As you travel up and along you reach a checkpoint before a huge waterslide. Here you take the path down the water slide and dwell into the "ocean". In the water all you have to do is travel right, kill one bee-hanger enemy, and the red ring is right up the ramp.
  5. This red ring is the trickiest as you must make the jump on the waterslide mentioned before! Once you get past the waterslide and the proceding sewer line, you must continue your speed to get up the 45 degree angle ramp. Once you hit the yellow spring, BE PATIENT. The moving ramps will guide you to each side (you go right to left) and at the top the Red Ring awaits!

Act 2

Modern Sonic starts (as usual) running through combo tricks and special ramps directing him to the 2 roads. Both the high and low lead Sonic to a large tube, sending him down with the blue chemicals. After he falls, Sonic runs into a room where the Mega Mack is beginning to rise (just like in Act 1), but deeper and slightly quicker. This time when escaping the area, the Chemical Plant is self-destructing. He then proceeds to the Goal Ring to escape the destruction behind him. The Modern remix has a very sci-fi feel, reminiscent of shows such as the X-Files.

Red Star Rings locations

  1. As you run along the first path, you’ll come up to two very sharp turns. The first turn is to the right and you’ll likely find yourself grinding on a rail on the left side. However, when the road starts to turn left, you’ll need to hang left as much as you can. To do this, utilize your drift ability by holding the left trigger. Your goal is to hit the left-most of the two ramps. This will send you to a pulley to hold on to. Hold the Boost button while you’re holding on, and when you fly off, you’ll land on the high road. The first Red Ring is ahead, and the easiest way to get it is to slow down to a stop and carefully grab it with a well-placed jump. Or, if you’d like, jump to the platform ahead and backtrack to grab it.
  2. After you pass the first checkpoint, jump to the higher path to grab the second Red Ring.
  3. Backtrack and take the lower of the two criss-crossing roads. Keep moving along the beaten path and you’ll find the third Red Ring above three platforms and to the right of four yellow moving boxes.
  4. When you find yourself in freefall, hang towards the top of the screen. You’ll see a trail of regular rings that leads into Red Ring #4.
  5. Move along the beaten path until you find yourself falling onto a platform with enemies and three gray boxes on the top left. Destroy the boxes with a homing attack and utilize any of the springs inside. Land on the rail as you fall and you’ll collect the last Red Ring as you grind.

Trivia

  • Act Two looks similar to the Daytime stages of Eggmanland from Sonic Unleashed.
  • In Act One of the Classic version, the level's theme sounds very similar to the original Chemical Plant Zone music, except the drum sounds are played as a techno beat and it is not a 16-bit theme. The Modern version of the theme is a lower-pitched rock remix.
  • As seen in the video, the Mega Mack in Act Two is deeper than in Act One, but like in the original Chemical Plant Zone, the Mega Mack in Act One is constantly rising.
  • In Act Two of this stage, the Chemical Plant seems to be self-destructing.
  • Even though the pink Mega Mack is considered deadly like most of the liquids, Amy finds it pretty.
  • This is the only stage in the Classic era that doesn't have a "Fast" remix.
  • This is the first level to feature the Light Speed Dash.
  • In Act Two, Super Sonic cannot push the yellow blocks with Boost. As a result, it is possible for him to get stuck in submerged places until he runs out of rings.
  • The Modern stage contains a water slide that is reminiscent of Lost World from Sonic Adventure and Cannon's Core from Sonic Adventure 2. This is most likely a coincidence, however.
    • Like Chemical Plant Zone, Cannon's Core also contains differently-colored water.
  • This zone contains fewer Badniks than any other zone in Generations.
  • The background music for Act Two can be considered by some as the most different of all of the Modern remixes to the originals.
