Our city's fine Civil Protection Robots will be on hand to aid anyone who is unsure about their assignment, and escort them to their place of employment.

— Public service announcement, Sonic Universe #79

The Civil Protection Robots are characters that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a model of robot police officer who serves the Onyx City Council in Silver's future.

History

The Silver Age

OnGuard

Civil Protection Robots on patrol, from Sonic Universe #80.

The Civil Protection Robots were the feared enforcers of the work system imposed by the council on the inhabitants of Onyx City. They were supposedly meant to "help" the citizens if they had trouble with their work assignments, but this amounted to arresting anyone who failed to report for work. Even Silver the Hedgehog feared to challenge them directly, resorting to psychic trickery on one occasion to cause one to slip so that one such citizen could make a run for it.[1]

Several Civil Protection Robots are on patrol in the City Council's Tower every night. One particular night, they would be ordered by the Onyx City Council to capture Silver, Professor Von Schlemmer and Gold the Tenrec as they were meeting in secret without consent.[2]

Powers and abilities

Archie gunners

The Civil Protection Robots' whips, from Sonic Universe #80.

The Civil Protection Robots are equipped with a blaster that can project an electrical yellow whip which they use to restrain enemies. These whips are strong enough to shock Silver despite protecting himself with a psychokinetic shield and knock him out with one blow to the neck.[2]
