Did another Cubot press his self-destruct button?

Miles "Tails" Prower, "Beyond the Valley of the Cubots"

The Cubot prototypes[5] are a group that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a faction of the Cubot Series that consists of several rejected Cubot prototypes. These units would go on to become renegades in order to avoid being dismantled by their creator, Dr. Eggman.

Despite staying in hiding, the Cubot prototypes have repeatedly gotten entangled in the affairs of Eggman and other villains.

Description[]

Characteristics and culture[]

The Cubot prototypes are virtually identical to the final model, except for a few subtle differences; the majority wear different accessories, though some boast a different color scheme instead. They also seemingly share the final model's abilities, such as levitation. They are also equipped with self-destruct buttons on their heads, unlike the final Cubot.[6]

The Cubot prototypes have personalities similar to that of the final Cubot, but are even more stupid and incompetent; they often press their own self-destruct buttons and wander around without any orientation, and when told to run or follow they do the exact opposite.[6][7] One even tried extinguishing a fire with a Disintegrator Ray. In their own words, they are incapable of learning from their mistakes. As such, they are almost just as great a danger to themselves as Eggman is.[6]

History[]

TV series[]

Past[]

SB S1E36 Discarded cubots

The Cubot prototypes in Eggman's lair.

The first models in the Cubot Series, the Cubot prototypes were rejected by Dr. Eggman after failing to live up to his expectations. Scheduled to be recycled, the Cubot prototypes escaped Eggman's lair and hid in the Valley of the Cubots to avoid their dismantling.[6] Fearing that the prototypes would rebel against him however, Eggman sought to exterminate them.[4]

Season one[]

Against their plans, the Cubot prototypes reemerged to steal equipment from Eggman and Tails to fix Cutebot. They soon after met their successors, Orbot and Cubot, who had been searching for them, and showed them their home. Amazed by Cubot's (limited) intelligence and leadership, the prototypes convinced Cubot to stay as their leader after he (with Orbot's aid) got Sonic and Tails to repair them. While Cubot was advising his prototypes however, Eggman and his robots managed to seek out the prototypes to destroy them. Although Sonic, Tails and Cubot saved them and made Eggman retreat, the Cubot prototypes had to move to a safer place afterward. Meanwhile, Cubot returned to Eggman, having been fed up with his prototypes' idiocy.[6]

Season two[]

Having found a new home where they could bumble around as always, the Cubot prototypes eventually received FriendBot, who would be their protector and guardian, from Team Sonic.[7][8]

When the Cubot prototypes got infected by malware from Hypnobot,[3][9] they were compelled to launch a sneak attack on Team Sonic, during which they shot Tails.[10] Tails survived though, and the team subdued the prototypes using their self-destruct buttons. The Cubot prototypes were afterward repaired by Tails, only to resume their rampage and escape their confines in Tails' Workshop upon receiving another malware signal.[3] Once Hypnobot was defeated however, the Cubot prototypes were freed from his control.[9] Unfortunately for the prototypes, they were soon taken over by Hypnobot again, who made them pilot Moth Bot during his and Eggman's invasion of Morristown. There, they met opposition from Team Sonic and their allies, until the heroes fell back when Hypnobot began turning the robots in the city against them. Still, the Cubot prototypes were defeated when Tails returned to the battle and took out Moth Both with the aid of Cyborg Tails. After the heroes stopped the invasion and freed the robots Hynobot controlled, the Cubot prototypes chose to remain in Morristown (now renamed "Roboken") to live there, where they bid Team Sonic farewell when they left.[11]

The Cubot prototypes soon returned to Seaside Island without FriendBot, leaving them without a protector again. Fortunately, they were soon visited by Team Sonic and D-Fekt, with the latter becoming their new protector. After listening to the Cubot prototypes' story, D-Fekt would inspire them to rebel against Eggman. With the aid of D-Fekt, the prototypes pulled off their rebellion and took over Eggman's lair. While most of the Cubots followed D-Fekt around however, Eggman would take back his lair. The prototypes following D-Fekt then got entangled in D-Fekt's showdown with Eggman. Amidst this, Eggman would take Cutebot, who D-Fekt had feelings for, hostage. Fortunately, Sonic was able to save Cutbot, thus allowing D-Fekt to defeat Eggman. The Cubot prototypes were then taken home by D-Fekt.[4]
