Custom game is one of the primary game modes playable in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. This mode plays just like standard races in the game; however, is done so online, in real-time, against other players.
The online modes separate in two different types, one standard online game where you either are paired up with online friends or local network users, or are paired with random players across the globe playing the game at the same time, called Match making.
Race for the top position while utilizing power ups.
Fight to survive using power ups. All players start with three hits. Once all off their hit points are gone, they are out. The last surviving player wins.

Capture the Chao
A Chao balloon and a capture point spawn in random spots. Bringing the Chao balloon to the capture point adds to the players score. Reaching the target limit or capturing the most before time runs out declares the winner.

Ninja Tag (Wii U only)
Players on the Game Pad play as Joe Musashi as he must run into other racers to tag them.
Download Play (3DS only)
Race together with up to 8 players on the Ocean View track. The host player will race as Sonic, client players race as their Mii.
Match Making is when random players are selected across the globe to participate with. All game modes, such as Standard Race, Battle Race, Battle Arena, Capture the Chao and Boost Race.
Unlike the standard online mode, Match Making features a random card play, where the game randomly decides the game track and mode, through the Lucky Dip option.
Also, unlike a standard Custom game, Match Making features online leaderboards and stats every time the player competes in a race. This leaderboard collects the players games played online, position/rank, Top 3 finishes in races and a win/loss ratio.
