The Cyan Laser (シアン・レーザー,Shian rēzā?), also known as the Laser form, is a transformation for multiple users which first appeared in Sonic Colors. It is a Color Power gained by absorbing a Cyan Wisp and its Hyper-go-on, which turns the user into a destructive laser.
When using the Cyan Laser, the user transforms into a cyan laser beam that releases small, transparent, cyan cubes in their slipstream. In Sonic's case, Sonic's entire body turns into a large version of his own head with nearly no facial features, except for his eyes, which have lost their pupils and turned yellow.
Powers and abilities
As the Cyan Laser, the user gains the same properties as that of a real laser, allowing them to move as a living beam of energy at lightning speed with enough force to penetrate even the toughest of robot armor. When hitting any surfaces as the Cyan Laser, the user can also bounce off them as if they were reflective surface. That said, the user can be redirected by prisms and travel through cables as energy. In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, the Cyan Wisp is capable of generating an electric field when reverting back or damaging certainbosses.
The Cyan Laser's only known weakness is that it can only be used for a few seconds and requires more Hyper-go-on from Cyan Wisps to be maintained.
Gameplay
In gameplay, the player can only use the Cyan Laser while in possession of a Cyan Wisp Transforming into the Cyan Laser will cause the games' respective Wisp Gauge to start depleting, and once it runs out, the user will revert back to normal. To extend its duration, the player has to collect more Cyan Wisps, though it will still deplete almost instantly. When activating the Cyan Laser, the player has to aim the playable character in the desired direction, as the direction cannot change once the character is launched.
If the player is in an area not suited for the Cyan Laser, the Cyan Wisp will go dormant (which is illustrated by its icon sleeping), thus preventing the player from becoming the Cyan Laser.
Any enemies or obstacles caught in the Cyan Laser's path (even those sometimes otherwise indestructible) are instantly destroyed and when hitting other obstacles, such as wall, ceiling, ground etc., the player will bounce off them in a perfect geometrical direction. Also, when hitting an optical cable or prism with the Cyan Laser, the player will be redirected down a new path, either through shortcuts or alternate pathways through the acts.

In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, the Cyan Laser can first be used in Tropical Resort Act 3. When activating the Cyan Laser, Sonic will become spin stationary, surrounded by cyan cubes, while the player has choose the direction for him to head in, though after a while, the Cyan Laser will automatically fire itself in the direction the player was aiming it in at that moment. When hitting an optical cable or prism, the player will be awarded with bonus points, called Color Bonus points.
While aiming, a dashed line will appear which shows the first section of the path Sonic will move if fired, even if he were to bounce off obstacles. How the Cyan Laser is aimed depends on the perspective of the current area: in 3D areas, the Cyan Laser can only be aimed horizontally, and in 2.5D areas, it can only be aimed vertically. To use the Cyan Laser in gameplay, the player has the following controls:

In the 2 Player mode in Eggman's Sonic Simulator, two players are able to combine the Cyan Laser transformation with other Color Powers, by activating the Cyan Laser and the other Color Power at the same time when they are within a certain distance, to create a new Color Power:
Cyan Laser + Cyan Laser: Two Cyan Lasers that shoot in a specified direction, spiraling around each other.
Cyan Laser + Yellow Drill: A Yellow Drill that can turn into a Cyan Laser before the Color Power ends.
Cyan Laser + Orange Rocket: A Orange Rocket that can turn into a Cyan Laser before the Color Power ends.
Nintendo DS
In the Nintendo DS version of Sonic Colors, the Cyan Laser is the fourth Color Power introduced (not including the White Wisps) and is unlocked in Aquarium Park. It is activated by pressing which will Sonic turn into the Cyan Laser and keep him stationary, while the player has choose the direction for him to head in, though after a while, the Cyan Laser will automatically fire itself in the direction the player was aiming it in at that moment.
The player can aim the Cyan Laser's direction in a vertical, 90 degree angle with the control pad and launch it by pressing ///) button.
The Cyan Laser can only be used in Tropical Resort Act 2 as the Cyan Wisps can only be found there. To activate the Cyan Laser, the player has to press to transform Sonic. While Sonic is stationary, the player can direct the Cyan Laser's direction with control pad and fire it by pressing .
Sonic Lost World
In Sonic Lost World, the Cyan Laser appears in both versions of the game, where it retains its mechanics and properties from the Wii version of Sonic Colors.
On the Wii U version of the game, the Cyan Laser is first used in Windy Hill Zone 1. The player can transform into the Cyan Laser by tapping the icon of the Cyan Wisp on the top right corner of the GamePad screen. While Sonic is stationary, the player can aim the Cyan Laser by sliding the finger across the screen or with the left stick. Then to fire Sonic, the payer must touch and hold Sonic before firing him with a quick swipe or by pressing .
On the Nintendo 3DS of the game, the Cyan Laser is first used in Sky Road Zone 1. The player can transform into the Cyan Laser by tapping the icon of the Cyan Wisp on the touchscreen. While Sonic is stationary, the player can aim the Cyan Laser with the direction controls before firing Sonic by pressing /.
Sonic Runners
In Sonic Runners, the Cyan Laser is an Equippable Item which the player can use in the stages. This game also marks the first time the Cyan Laser has been used by someone else besides Sonic. When using the Cyan Laser in this game, the playable character will shoot forward in a straight line through midair while drawing in nearby Crystals, Rings and Animals when the player taps the screen.
In other media
Archie Comics
The Cyan Laser made a brief appearance in the Archie Comics' adaption of Sonic Colors, in Sonic the Hedgehog #219. The Cyan Laser in the comics, however, appeared rather as an augmented version of Sonic's regular Spin Dash, instead of a transformation.
When Sonic and Tails arrived in Dr. Eggman's Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park, Sonic managed to save a group of Wisp, amongst them a Cyan Wisp, from Orbot, Cubot and a pack of Egg Pawns. The Cyan Wisp then went into Sonic, granting the hedgehog the Cyan Laser, and Sonic used his newfound power to destroy the Egg Pawns in a flash and to send Orbot and Cubot running.
The jingle for when Sonic uses the Cyan Laser in all three of the games it has appeared on (Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Lost World) remains the same jingle since its first appearance.
Originally, the Cyan Laser could only be controlled with the touchscreen in Sonic Lost World. However, a patch was later released which let the player control it with the analog stick and buttons as well.
Sonic Generations is the only Sonic game to have the Cyan Laser appear in a handheld game (the 3DS version) rather than appearing in both platforms.
