The Dark Hands[1] are a group that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are a group of cyborg echidnas, and a subdivision of Dark Presence that serve as their field agents.

History[]

25 Years Later (altered)[]

In the altered reality created by Sonic's usage of the Tachyon Displacement Chamber, the Dark Hands were enlisted under King Shadow as field agents, while the main enforcement was carried out by Enforcer Knuckles and the security forces at his disposal. Shortly after Sonic's return, a member of the Dark Hands provided Lien-Da with data on Lara-Su acquired by the Dark Eyes, and was subsequently dismissed by her.[2]

Five Years Later[]

Following the fall of King Shadow, the Dark Hands continued to serve as the troops of the now-in-hiding Dark Presence. One night, they began mobilizing following word from the Dark Eyes that Castle Mobius was unguarded, only to be ordered to stand down by Lien-Da, who did not wish to cause harm to the royal children, Sonia and Manik. Four sub-groups each composed of two Dark Hands, Team A, Team B, Team C, and Team D later were outfitted with weapons, and sent undercover to hide in the crowd outside Castle Mobius, with the intention of assassinating Sonic when he emerged to give a speech to the citizens. However, Team C experienced heavy traffic, and was unable to arrive, while Team D received poor visibility due to the surrounding crowd. Additionally, Team A was stationed as a decoy, possessing missile launchers, but no actual missiles. Laru-Su eventually caught sight of Team A pointing a missile launcher at Sonic, and successfully knocked out both members, but realized too late their nature as decoys.[1]

Later, three more Dark Hands were dispatched as Team E to kidnap the Prower family by using Gas-guns, although they only managed to subdue Tails and Mina while Melody and Skye made it to safety. Lien-Da subsequently communicated with the team, telling them to ignore the children and secure the captives. Another larger group of Dark Hands were sent to invade Castle Mobius, and although some were defeated by the efforts of Sonic and Lara-su, many others remained in the castle to confine the guests, and assist Lien-Da in reawakening King Shadow through use of the Chaos Siphon.[3]

The same group of Dark Hands subsequently scanned Shadow's vital signs, and reported the information to Lien-Da before following her and Shadow down a corridor. They later witnessed Shadow destroy Lien-Da's Spatial armband, thereby forcing her to resent in the timestream, and watched in terror as Shadow released Tikhaos. The group then fled the castle despite their former allegiance to Shadow, with one of them ordering all the other members of the Dark Prescence to fall back in response.[4]

The entire Dark Prescence soon formally announced their renouncement of King Shadow to Argyle, prompting Team E to free the Prowers, and the rest to help with the evacuation efforts in Portal.[5]

Uniform[]

Prior to King Shadow's first defeat, the standard uniform for Dark Hands consisted of a black hood with a red visor, black full-body armor, and gray gloves. Following the Dark Prescence's transition to a terrorist cell, however the uniform of the Dark Hands would change drastically, with each member of the Dark Hands being outfitted with black boots, a gray vest, a black belt, and gray jacket, black body armor, black gloves, and a black helmet with a transparent blue visor. Additionally, for undercover missions, the Dark Hands usually dress in a variety of more casual clothing, such as hats and suits.[2][1]
