Dark Mobius - Knuckles' Descent is a short story set in the pre-Super Genesis Wave Archie Sonic the Hedgehog canon. The story is divided into five parts, which were published on the now-defunct Sonic Universe blog in May 2011, and were written by Ian Flynn. The story serves as a prequel to the Sonic Universe "Silver Saga" arc which ran from Sonic Universe #25 to #28, and as a companion to the other Dark Mobius blog stories.[1]

Chronologically, the story starts from the events of Sonic the Hedgehog #108, where, in the Dark Mobius timeline, Knuckles thinks differently of situation than his Mobius Prime counterpart did, a course of action which leads him down a dark descent into becoming Dark Enerjak.

The first part's appearance on the now-defunct blog site.

The meeting between Dimitri, the High Council and the Mitre all went well. All except for the assassination attempt, at least. I've never been shot before. That wasn't particularly fun.
The big wigs made peace and now the Dark Legion is welcome back into society. That's great, but I couldn't help notice they kept on talking while I recovered on the floor.
No shouts for paramedics or cries for help. They used my "death" as a point of debate.
We may have peace, but it's being seen to by the wrong people. I'm the Guardian. I've been given the power and training to protect everyone.
Things need to change.

Part two[]

ASUB2

The second part's appearance on the now-defunct blog site.

Why is it than when I do something right, everyone acts like I'm stupid?
I attack invaders to the island. "Oh no, stupid Knuckles, Sonic and Tails are good guys."
I tap into the powers my father gave me. "You're going to lose control, stupid!"
I take over the Dark Legion, and absolve the High Council. "You've gone mad with power, you lunk-head!"
The peace brokered under Dimitri was a joke. We still had everyone identifying themselves as ex-legion or original citizens. Now everyone is in one big group under me, so it's simpler.
I even took on this Robo-eye to show the old legionnaires I mean it when I say I want everyone together and happy.
Why can't anyone else get that?

Part three[]

ASUB3

The third part's appearance on the now-defunct blog site.

He's jealous. That's all there is to it. Sonic spent years fighting him, running around in the trees, and not making one bit of difference.
I zap Dr. Eggman and - boom - no more problems. The bad guy is gone. Sonic just wishes he was as powerful and effective as me.
It must be something in the air, because the Brotherhood is getting uppity too. I had to put Spectre through a wall after the unification with the ex-legion.
Well, ex-ex Legion. The Dark Legion is my army now, and we're going to set things right across Mobius.
If the Brotherhood and my friends don't want to be part of the solution, then I'll treat them like part of the problem.

Part four[]

ASUB4

The fourth part's appearance on the now-defunct blog site.

Julie-Su is gone. Part of me wants to say "what's one more betrayal?" But her leaving hurts. A lot.
I don't get it. She was with me when I simplified things between the Dark Legion and everyone else. She was with me on vaporizing Eggman. Sure, she had her doubts, but she supported me.
Maybe I wasn't around enough for her. I'm trying to make Mobius a better place, and I'm having to fight everyone to get anything done. Even the Dark Legion is starting to get on my nerves. Surely she understands I'm a busy guardian?
Maybe it was because she was getting round across the middle. I thought she was beautiful, regardless of if she put on a few pounds.
I'll look for her later. I have a resistance to quell.

Part five[]

ASUB5

The fifth part's appearance on the now-defunct blog site.

I'll give Remington this - he sure knows how to surprise me.
I thought I could rest and concentrate on strengthening my second-sight in my chambers but, nope. Bomb.
I'm powerful enough that the explosion didn't do anything to me, but it still caught me by surprise.
I'm officially on my own now.
Julie-Su ran off with my daughter, but I don't know where.
My spies are pathetic.
The Chaotix have openly turned on me; thanks guys.
The Dark Legion is starting to show signs of dissent and I'm fighting most of my battles alone.
That's not too bad, though - fighting entire armies single-handedly is about the only fun I have anymore.
I've been thinking lately that "Guardian" doesn't really suit me anymore.
It's too small in scope.
I'm not just protecting Angel Island anymore - I'm fixing the world.
A man of my kind of power and vision needs a better title.
"Enerjak" has some negative connotations, but it's fitting. I guess I can fix that along with everything else.
Enerjak the Hero.
Yes...
I like the sound of that.
