Deputy Krouch from Sonic the Comic #88. Art by Nigel Dobbyn.

Deputy Krouch is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. He was the Deputy Sheriff of Backwater City, a town in the middle of the Mobian Prairie. He was the son of the town's mayor, Boss Krouch, and it is implied (although never made explicit) that the mayor arranged for his son to take the job over the current Sheriff's objections. It is unclear how involved the Deputy was with his father's illegal activities, but he was certainly willing to comply with any of his father's wishes, no matter how immoral.

When Knuckles the Echidna was brought to Backwater City having been accused of trying to kill an Apterix rancher named Rooster, Deputy Krouch agreed to put Knuckles in the town jail cell until the Sheriff got back from out of town. In fact, Boss Krouch has organised the attempt on Rooster's life. When Boss Krouch had some of his men take Knuckles out to be lynched, Deputy Krouch sat back and allowed them to do it, even telling Knuckles that in Backwater "we make our own laws!" Fortunately, the real Sheriff returned just in time to stop the lynching,[1] and he immediately fired Krouch for being "a disgrace" to the Deputy's badge. Sitting in the sand, Krouch whined that he would tell his pa, only for the Sheriff to tell him that "Crying to your pa is about all your good for!"[2]
