The Desert Raiders[3] is a group that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are a Freedom Fighter faction stationed in the area of Shamar. In secret though, they are associates of Egg Boss Nephthys the Vulture in order to keep the Midesta Egg Army at bay.

History

Formation

Inspired by the Freedom Fighters, the Desert Raiders were formed to counteract the Midesta Egg Army, with the team modeling themselves after their role models. However, the true intent of the group was to keep the forces of the Eggman Empire and the Freedom Fighters at a stalemate in Shamar, therefore compromising complete control from Dr. Eggman. The leader of Shamar's Egg Army, Nephthys, conspires with the Freedom Fighters for the plan to work.[2][4]

Shattered World Crisis

During the Shattered World Crisis, the Desert Raiders helped the Freedom Fighters, ward off an ambush set by the Egg Army. Awestruck over meeting their idols, the group helped the Freedom Fighters rescue the local Guardian of one of the Gaia Keys from the Midesta Egg Army.[2] Though the Desert Raiders secretly staged their fight with the Egg Army, the rescue was successful nonetheless. The Desert Raiders parted ways with the Freedom Fighters and checked back with Nephthys to see if everything was in check, disappointed that Sonic's team had set back their plans.[4] They soon learned Nephthys was to go on a mission with Dr. Eggman and the other Egg Bosses to reclaim ownership of Eggman Land and greeted her when she returned.[5][6]

Sally Acorn of the Freedom Fighters later contacted the Desert Raiders and their other allies to discuss their plan to upstage Eggman and restore the world. Though the Desert Raiders acted as if they were on board, they were secretly reluctant to join, with an upset Sonar telling Nephthys of their plan. Nephthys promised not to tell Eggman.[7] Soon, the Desert Raiders rejoiced after the world had been restored by Chip.[8]
