Doctor Eggman Nega, or just Doctor Nega, is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-off comics published by Archie Comics. He is a villainous scientist and the descendant of Dr. Eggman from Silver's future who has often plagued both the Prime Zone's present day and the Sol Zone, where he and his robotic minions often clash with Blaze the Cat for possession of the Sol Emeralds.

Appearance

Dr. Eggman Nega closely resembles his ancestor Dr. Eggman, albeit with the colors reversed, a longer nose, a white mustache (suggesting he is at an elderly age), pointy blue sunglasses, and visor-styled goggles instead of normal ones.

History

Sonic Rush

Nega's first encounters with Blaze and Sonic occurred when he made contact with Dr. Eggman and formed an alliance with him. Working together, the pair set out to build an Eggman Empire spanning both worlds they sought to conquer by stealing the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds from each other's respective nemeses. They succeeded in this plan, but their efforts were ultimately thwarted by Super Sonic and Burning Blaze.[1] Undaunted, the pair set out to claim an even greater power: the Jeweled Scepter, a powerful artifact from the Sol Zone. Creating Captain Whisker and his crew to collect it, the doctors were disappointed by their minions' failure and intervened personally, only to suffer defeat yet again. Nega then attempted to destroy Blaze's world out of vengeance, but was thwarted thanks to her friend Marine the Raccoon.[2]

Sonic Rivals

Nega later set his sights on the present of Sonic's World, and captured Eggman so that he could impersonate him without interference. He then began using a special camera device to convert objects and even living beings into photographs, intending to put the entire world in his "collection." However, his true identity was eventually discovered and he was thwarted by the efforts of Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and Silver, the latter having pursued Nega from their home time.[3] Nega would not admit defeat easily, returning with another scheme to gain absolute power through the manipulation of a creature known as the Ifrit. However, the heroes who had defeated him before were joined by Tails, Metal Sonic, Rouge and Espio, and together they defeated Nega's scheme.[4]

Pirate Plunder Panic

Eggman Nega continued to pursue the Sol Emeralds, as he was briefly mentioned by Mini & Mum when they reminded Captain Whisker of his orders to turn any Emeralds over to the doctor after Johnny stole an Emerald from Captain Metal.[5]

Personality

Dr. Eggman Nega is an eloquent and sophisticated villainous scientist, but also frightening ruthless and power mad. He is fully willing to seize objects of power despite the risk to the world he apparently inhabits or wishes to conquer.

Trivia

  • Dr. Eggman Nega's full name was changed to "Dr. Nega" and his appearance is concealed in shadow because the character of Eggman Nega is unavailable to the comics because of issues with Sega. Writer Ian Flynn explained on a forum post that he had to push hard to use the character at all, and had to make it clear that they would only be vaguely hinting at him. He hopes that the character will become more available in the future.[6]
