The Dragon from Sonic the Comic #94. Art by Roberto Corona and colouring by Andy Pritchett.

The Dragon is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. He is an enormous, fire-breathing winged reptile and a member of a race believed to exist only in fairy tales.

History

The dragon was dormant in a millennia-long sleep beneath the Emerald Hill Zone until woken a thousand years too early when the Freedom Fighters attempted to expand the tunnels of Tekno the Canary's underground laboratory to be their new base.[1] Upon waking, it breathed fire over the Freedom Fighters, who immediately retaliated. The dragon brushed off their attacks and then flew away from the Freedom Fighters while they recuperated. Shortfuse the Cybernik wished to shoot it out of the sky, but was prevented by Amy Rose and Tekno. They pointed out that the dragon had only attacked them because they had woken it up, probably thinking it was defending itself, and that it hadn't really done anything wrong.

Feeling guilty, Tails flew after the dragon to apologise. The dragon explained that he had been woken a thousand years before the other dragons were due to end their hibernation, and that he would have to roam Mobius alone until they did so. Fortunately, he claimed that by then he would only be a teenager in dragon years. Tails asked for the dragon's help in fighting Robotnik, but the dragon, still grumpy after being woken up, rebuffed him and told Tails to ask again in a few more years.[2]

Trivia

  • Creator Lew Stringer said that he had wanted to use the dragon again, but he was sidetracked by other stories and forgot about it.[3]
