Dry Lagoon (ドライラグーン Dorai Ragūn?) is the first treasure hunting stage and second overall stage of the Dark story in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and is playable as Rouge the Bat.

Description[]

Dry01

Rouge and the Turtles, from Sonic Adventure 2.

The area is in the desert close to Dr. Eggman's secret pyramid base, and there is a large amount of water in this stage. The lagoon is home to a lot of wildlife, including two giant Turtles.

Story[]

Rouge makes her debut by trying to steal the Master Emerald from Angel Island. Knuckles, the guardian of the Emerald, tries to stops her but in the midst of their arguing, Dr. Eggman arrives and steals the Emerald. To prevent the Master Emerald's power from falling into the wrong hands, Knuckles shatters the Emerald. After more bickering with Knuckles, Rouge leaves to collect some of the Master Emerald's shards.

Gameplay[]

In gameplay, Rouge can rescue one of the Turtles from a pair of Gun Hunter robots and use it to get to the other part of the stage by riding on its back. The other Turtle can be used to get to the Oasis Prison.

The ruins in this stage have a mysterious wind cycle and paintings to Dig through once Rouge discovers the Pick Nails.

Overview[]

1st Mission: Find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald![]

The shards of the Master Emerald are placed in random locations each time the stage is played. To find them, the player must use the Emerald Radar at the bottom of the screen. As they get closer to the currently-tracked emerald shard, it turns from green to yellow to red and the "ping" sound speeds up. The player can also activate the Hint Boxes for hints, but doing so subtracts points from the score, making it more difficult to get an A-Rank.

2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings![]

This is one of the easiest missions in the game. There are more than enough Rings in the first area, so it is not necessary for the player to use the Turtle. The various ledges and airspace around the tall, dark pillar have an especially large amount of Rings.

3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao![]

The Iron Boots, Pick Nails, and Mystic Melody are required to complete this mission. Breaking the Steel Containers along the southern wall of the top floor reveals a painting. The player must Dig into it, which will cause them to land in a room containing an Ancient Ruin and a door. They must play the Mystic Melody near the ruin to open the door, then walk through it. Jumping into the Warp Point will transport the player to the Lost Chao's location.

4th Mission: Collect the Emerald pieces in 3 minutes 30 seconds![]

Due to the small size of this stage, completing this mission is not difficult. The player should quickly check the starting area, then head to the Big Oasis area if no Emerald Shards are found.

Last Mission: Clear Hard mode![]

The Treasure Scope is required to complete this mission. In Hard mode, the Master Emerald shards are always in the same place, and are as follows:

  1. To reach the first shard, the player should begin by destroying the Wooden Container on the second ledge above the starting point. They must launch from the exposed Spring, then, once at the height of the bounce, Glide forward to grab the shard.
  2. For the second shard, the player must Climb into the large painting on the east wall and Dig into the cross bar of the scale. A hidden Spring will launch the player into the Emerald shard.
  3. The final piece is located in the Big Oasis area. The player must take a ride on the Turtle, turn on the Treasure Scope, and drop into the water. They should look on the underside of the floating center island, and the player will see a Spring that they can bounce off of to snatch the last shard.

Level Up Item[]

The Level Up Item in Dry Lagoon is Rouge's Mystic Melody. The Pick Nails are required to get it.

Animals[]

Big the Cat sighting[]

Big the Cat's tail in Dry Lagoon, from the 2012 remaster of Sonic Adventure 2.

In the second section of Dry Lagoon, dive into the water and grab the Turtle. This Turtle will eventually go into the underwater tunnel, and about halfway the tunnel Big's tail can be seen sticking out of the sand.

In Hard Mode, Big is moved slightly backward, but his tail is still the only part of him visible.
