The Egg X[1] (エッグ X[2] Eggu X?) is a mech built by Dr. Eggman and is the last boss of X-Zone from Sonic Advance.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Egg X is an upgraded Egg Mobile which is surrounded a rotating red ring-lke layer which has three weapons: a metallic arm, a ball shooter and a laser beam. The ring itself is capable of moving along the vehicle's height. The vehicle itself has a small blue windshield, yellow stripe and a blue spherical underside.

Powers and abilities[]

The Egg X's red layer itself is capable of shielding its pilot from any assault while it is surrounding the cockpit although it needs to be lowered down in order to use one of its three weapons. The weapons consist of a metallic arm which can stretch across long distances to catch its user's enemies, a laser beam, and a ball shooter.

Battle[]

The Egg X is the boss of X-Zone and is the ninth boss overall in Sonic Advance. It is fought by Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Amy.

Boss guide[]

The battle begins with the Egg X appearing on the right side of the screen. Most of the time, the red layer will continue to revolve around the cockpit, preventing it from being hit. Eventually, the red layer will stop rotating and lower, exposing Eggman's cockpit but it will then use one of the following attacks, corresponding to the weapon the red layer stopped on:

  • Laser: Eggman shoots a transparent laser beam that covers the entire length of the screen in front of him. The player can Crouch to avoid damage.
  • Cannon: Eggman fires a brown cannonball at two different angles so the player will need to jump over as they approach them.
  • Arm: Eggman will take some time to aim at the player before launching its arm in an attempt to grab them. If Eggman succeeds, after the arm is retracted, it will shake the player repeatedly, cause them to lose all of their rings and be hurled to the other side while Eggman moves to the other side. However, if the player dodges the arm, the player can hit the cockpit while the arm is being retracted.
  • Sometimes, Eggman simply flies horizontally to the other side of the screen while keeping his cockpit exposed. He will move offscreen briefly before returning.

Additionally, touching any part of the Egg X (other than jumping onto the cockpit to hit while it is exposed) will cause the player to take damage. After completing its attack, the red layer will surround his cockpit once more and the pattern repeats.

Scoring hits on the Egg X can be somewhat difficult since Eggman attacks during its window of vulnerability, which is apparent when it uses its laser or cannon attack. However, the Egg X's arm attack when avoided and its transport state when flying to the other side of the screen presents the player with the safest window of opportunity to hit the Egg X.

After taking six hits on Easy mode or eight hits on Normal mode, the Egg X explode and the player will run away with the destruction of the X-Zone right behind them. The player will then fall but will caught on the wing of the Tornado with Sonic piloting the plane. (If the player is playing as Sonic, the pilot will be Tails.) If the player has all the Chaos Emeralds, completes the game with all four characters and plays through X-Zone as Sonic, the base does not explode and Eggman retreats like his other battles. Sonic runs along the stage until he stops by a pit, and sees Eggman escaping to the Moon. He transforms into Super Sonic and give chase, thus starting The Moon Zone.
