The Egg Fighters were personally designed and built by Dr. Eggman, and were made in the greatest quantity of all his models at that time. They possess features that make them the most versatile of the doctor's models and come in several variants.
The Egg Fighters were designed in the image of Dr. Eggman. They have a torso in the shape of a little more than a hemisphere, with four flashlights arranged in a rectangle on their front and a flat rounded head on top of it. They also have relatively shot legs, with flat feet and circular ankles, and arms that extend almost down to the ground with four-fingered hands. They are all colored steel blue and silver, and have purple eyes. However, few units also come in the colors red, orange and silver.
While not known to possess any defined personality, the Egg Fighters' AI is set to seek out and destroy any blue hedgehog in the area which usually makes them extremely hostile in the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog. Certain Egg Fighter units, such as EF-MD1991, EF-DC1998 and EF-XB2006, however, have demonstrated distinct personalities of their own.
Powers and Abilities

The Egg Fighters' hands are programmed with an autonomous AI and possess a separate operating system, allowing them to function on their own even after the Egg Fighters' main body is destroyed. As such, when an Egg Fighter is destroyed, their hands can detach themselves and become Little Fighters.
In gameplay, the Egg Fighters attack the player with punches where they envelope their fists in white energy. They are often accompanied by some of the more powerful robots, such as other variants of the Egg Fighters, the Aero-Chasers and the Interceptor.
The Egg Fighters reappeared in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. In this game, they can only be encountered in both acts of Rooftop Run and the Challenge Acts tied to them. There, they have the same attack patterns as they had in Sonic Unleashed. Whenever they see Sonic, the Egg Fighters strike a pose.
In Rooftop Run Act 1, the Egg Fighters also serve the role of triggering traps for Classic Sonic by causing giant barrels to roll over him. These traps can be prevented by the player by destroying the Egg Fighters before they can trigger them.
