For other uses of the term "Egg Fighter," see Egg Fighter (disambiguation).

A high-voltage current courses through the shields these units carry, dealing massive damage to anything they touch. Thankfully, the high cost of manufacturing shields made of sufficiently strong and conductive alloys meant that only a few were ever produced.

— Description, Sonic Unleashed[1]

The Egg Fighter: Shield[1] (エッグファイター・シールド[2] Eggu Faitā Shīrudo?) is an enemy that appears in Sonic Unleashed. They are a model of Badniks created by Dr. Eggman, and a variant of the Egg Fighter: Shield that wield shields capable of creating electrical surges. Due to the high cost of producing such shields, relatively few Egg Fighter: Shields exist.[1]

Appearance[]

The Egg Fighter: Shields are identical to the standard Egg Fighter model. They have a torso in the shape of a hemisphere, with four flashlights arranged in a rectangle on their front and a flat cap-shaped head on top of it. They have relatively short legs, with flat feet and circular ankles, and four-fingered arms that extend almost down to the ground. They are colored steel blue and silver, and have purple eyes.

Overview[]

Not may units of this line of Egg Fighter: Shields have been produced. This is due to their signature shields being made of sufficiently strong and conductive alloys which are very costly to be manufactured en mass.

These enemies are not encountered on many occasions, but the harder the Action Stages/Stages become, the more often they appear. In gameplay, the Egg Fighter: Knights' shields will periodically discharge electricity which will damage and temporarily paralyze Sonic should he touch it. When their shields discharge, their attacks can even bypass Guard. When not discharging them, the Egg Fighter: Shields' shields can deflect a Homing Attack and minimize the damage from Skills.

In battle, the Egg Fighter: Shields will use their shields to defend themselves from the player's attacks. When attacking themselves in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version, the Egg Fighter: Shields will either knock Sonic with their shields or charge right into him with their shields first. When they lose their shield, they will attack in the same manner as a regular Egg Fighter.

There are several ways to bypass the Egg Fighter: Shields' shields. On the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version, in the daytime Action Stages, the Egg Fighter: Shields can be attacked with the Homing Attack if the player strikes them before they can put up their shields, and in the nighttime Action Stages the shields can be broken if hit with strong combo attacks or be dropped when the player initiate a Critical Attack. Additionally, the shields cannot block a Sonic Boost when not discharging or an attack from the rear, and deflecting a Homing Attack will leave them vulnerable to another.

Powers and abilities[]

As an Egg Fighter model, the Egg Fighter: Shields possess above average physical strength, enough to let them move barrels at least three times their own size and easily carry large shields.

The Egg Fighter: Shields are shown to possess a degree of hand-to-hand combat skills, being able to engage in close combat by their shields both offensively and defensively. They are also efficient in shieldmanship, capable of using their shields for both offense and defense.

Weapons[]

Each of the Egg Fighter: Shields carry a single large shield, which are mostly in the shape of a kite shield and are glowing cyan. They have a "T" shaped steel blue plating on the front surface, and have a steel blue-colored lower edge, and silver-colored sides. They also have grey spikes on their two upper corners.

These shields are made from strong and conductive alloys that not only makes them highly durable, but also lets the Egg Fighter: Shields run high-voltage currents through them, effectively allowing them to electrify opponents that touch these shields.
