The Egg Fleet is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a colossal aerial assault force that was composed of numerous airships. The fleet was created by Dr. Eggman and served as the Eggman Empire's primary attacking force in 3237, until it was destroyed by Enerjak. The Egg Fleet is famous for being responsible for the destruction of Knothole.

History[]

Development and Early Use[]

EggFleet01

The Egg Fleet during its early development, from Sonic the Hedgehog #162.

Ever since the arrival of Dr. Eggman on Mobius Prime, the mad doctor had suffered consecutive defeats by the hands of Sonic the Hedgehog and the Freedom Fighters. After having endured enough of his "war games", Eggman began to construct the Egg Fleet; an armada of such force that it could ultimately destroy his enemies and secure his dominion over Mobius.[1] After spending several months of construction, the fleet was finally completed.[2]

The Egg Fleet was first employed in its early development during the fight between Mammoth Mogul, Ixis Naugus, the Destructix and the Arachne Clan verses the Knothole Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix. Dr. Eggman had the Egg Fleet arrive on the scene after both parties were battle-weary, using it to capture and imprison Naugus, the Arachne Clan, Mogul and the Destructix in the Egg Grape Chambers, leaving Sonic and the Freedom Fighters to witness the capabilities of the Egg Fleet.[3] Later on, The Egg Fleet would be used to obliterate A.D.A.M., who was inhabiting Tommy Turtle's body.[4]

Major Assault[]

With the location of the Kingdom of Knothole known to him, Eggman dispatched the entire Egg Fleet. He had his nephew Snively distract the Knothole Freedom Fighters by attacking Freedom HQ, transporting many of them to the Egg Grape Chambers. Meanwhile, the Egg Fleet homed in on the kingdom and began its assault. Without any defense against the aerial bombardment, everything within Knothole City was destroyed.[1]

With the help of Nicole, Amy Rose, Tails and Knuckles, Sonic was able to rescue the citizens from the Egg Grape Chambers, relocating them all to the nanite city, rechristened New Mobotropolis. The city was protected by an energy barrier, which kept it safe from all outside forces. Eggman had Snively control the Egg Fleet and attack the city, though its protective shield was able to withstand their constant attack.[5]

The Egg Fleet came under attack by Snively's step-sister Hope, who had flown in on her newest airplane. Her craft was only able to cause superficial damage to some of the ships in the fleet, but Snively hesitated to shoot her down, and allowed her to escape. Following the defeat of Eggman's Egg Beater by the hands of the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix, the doctor withdrew with the Egg Fleet from New Mobotropolis.[5]

Final Use and Destruction[]

BorkenEggFleet

The destruction of the Egg Fleet, from Sonic the Hedgehog #183.

When the new Enerjak (who was Knuckles that had been brainwashed by Dr. Finetivus) became engaged in battle against the combined forces of the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix, Dr. Eggman arrived with the Egg Fleet, and transported him to the improved Egg Grapes.>[6] However, Enerjak soon after broke free from the Egg Grapes, and during his following attack on New Megopolis, Enerjak single-handedly destroyed the entire Egg Fleet.[7]
