Egg Lancer

Egg Lancer in the Wii version.

Egg Lancer PS3

Sonic fighting the Egg Lancer in the PS3 version

The Egg Lancer is the Temple Guardian of Adabat and the final day boss before Dark Gaia. Like the Egg Beetle, it is also an arachnid. In fact, in the bestiary in the 360 and PS3 versions, it mentions the Egg Lancer is simply a combination of leftover parts from the Egg Beetle and Egg Devil Ray. This boss is fought after completing Adabat Day.

Appearance

The Egg Lancer looks exactly like Egg Beetle, but black in both versions. The Egg Lancer looks different between the Wii/PS2 and 360/PS3. In the Wii/PS2 versions, the cockpit contains Eggman, and its claws are black with yellow lines from the tip to body. Shorter yellow lines cut through the one long one like a pattern. In the 360/PS3 version, the ball where the cockpit was in the Wii/PS2 version is green, which changes to yellow, and then to red depending on how much damage it has taken. Its claw lines are red, not yellow. Eggman does not pilot the Lancer in 360/PS3 version.

Battle

The strategies between the two versions are quite different, but for both, the Egg Lancer changes its attack pattern based on where you are on the track.

Wii/PS2

thumb|300px|right|Wii gameplay It starts out by shooting missiles that leave a pillar of fire. Dodge it as you collect rings. if you start the track all over (Only when you cleared the quick time event or die somehow) it will open it's claws leaving it open to attack. Then, it will follow the track up and the track will run sideways, with the camera focused above Sonic. The Egg Lancer remains behind the floor and fires lasers that move in a zigzag pattern. Avoid them. Then, the floor ends at a rock face and the Egg Lancer will appear in front of Sonic. It will slam the rock wall and rocks will come tumbling down. Steer clear of them. Alternatively, you can run right underneath its claws, miraculously not get hurt, and then a rock will hit the Egg Lancer and its claws will open. If you are in range, boost into it to damage it. Then, the path will curve down and Sonic will fall on to the track below it. On this track, the camera will zoom overhead, and the Egg Lancer will proceed with the same strategy he used with Egg Devil Ray (for help with this section, click the link). You can hit it up to two times in this part. After this part, you have to do a QTE to jump along the pads, and if you are successful, you do 2 hits of damadge. if failiure, you fall to death starting the track all over. After this part, you will fall through a hole and end up at the beginning and the Egg Lancer will repeat its strategy, or it is defeated if you died during the fight starting over if you are able to hit him at the start.

360/PS3

File:Sonic Unleashed - 360 - Egg Lancer

Xbox 360 gameplay

It starts out by shooting lasers on the sides of the arena, then it opens its claws so you can attack it. Then it goes up the path and hide behind the mesh floor. Meanwhile, it shoots a bunch of stationary lasers. Simply Quick Step around them. Then, it will fire two lasers on the sides that close in on you and it will open its claws. Boost into it before you get hit by the lasers. Then, the track will curve downward and Sonic will drop on to a platform below, which is rigged with lasers everywhere. Jump and Quick Step when necessary. After you get past that, the Egg Lancer will fire lasers and open its claws again. Hit it again. Then you will have to do a QTE jump pad section, where the last one is a three button QTE. If you can do this, you will deal massive damage. On the second lap, the Egg Lancer will fire lasers in the middle of the track below. If you stay in the middle, you will actually fall a little to the right. After it is finished, hit it once more. When you follow it back to the mesh wall, it will shoot a line of lasers and the top laser will move forward, and then the next one, and so on. Before the laser in front of you moves forward, Quick Step right. Then, they will move back, starting with the top. Quick Step right when the one behind you moves back. Then, it will release a line of bombs that will move in a similar pattern. Repeat the process with the bombs, then boost into the Egg Lancer. When you fall down to the next platform, it will be littered with fireballs in sort of a checkerboard pattern. Quick Step around them and hit the Egg Lancer again. If you took every opportunity to hit it, you should finish it off in the QTE section.
