Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
An Eggmobile equipped with a device that drops fireballs from underside. Requires to do eight hits to defeat it.
The Eggmobile is the second boss in original 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The player will face him at the Marble Zone Act 3 and requires to hit eight times. Here, it is piloted by Doctor Robotnik who has equipped with a tube that drops fireballs from its underside.
The boss battle takes place on two stone grounds, on either side of a pool of lava. Robotnik will arrive from the right at start, who drops a fireball on each platform in turn, temporarily covering it in flames. The flame lines are divided into two directions, forcing Sonic to jump between them. Robotnik keeps doing this pattern until the Eggmobile gets destroyed.
The player is able to defeat this boss by Spin Jumping into him when Robotnik starts arrive to shoot fireball on him. The player has then move away to the other side of lava pool and have to keep doing same strategy. After eight hits, Eggmobile gets damaged, but Robotnik will manages to escape. The player is then able to head to the capsule and head to the next zone. In the 2013 re-release of the game, the arena is much more extensive to in the original game due the widescreen ratio on the re-release.
This Eggmobile also appears in Archie Comics's Sonic the Hedgehog #226, that is part of GENESIS arc. and where it is piloted once by Doctor Eggman. When he get know that Sonic has been foiling nephew's doings, he arrives to the Marble Zone to face the hedgehog himself on the Eggmobile, that has small hole dropping fireballs.
When Dr. Eggman starts chasing Sonic, who keeps balancing on pillars of lava lake, he eventually comes to dead end. Eggman almost got him, until Buzz Bomber, that Rotor has early on reprogrammed to help them, tries to attack behind, but itself destroyed by Eggman. This gives change for Sonic, who then does Spin Attack into Eggmobile, that then gets bounced and damaged by pillar melted pillar. Eggman then decided to escape but blustered that once his master plan was being completed, all of them would suffer his wrath.
