Emerald Coast (エメラルドコースト Emerarudokōsuto?) is the fourth Stage in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations. It originally appeared in Sonic Adventure.

Description

Act 1

Emerald Coast Act 1's overall level layout is based on the first half of the original Action Stage. When the Act begins, the player will start out next to the beach resort in Station Square. From there, the player has to proceed across the beach, then scale some rocky structures and wooden bridges. After that, they must cross some more bridges while being chased by an orca. After that, the player will arrive on dry land again, and eventually arrive at a bridge that leads past a lighthouse.

After crossing the bridge, the player will enter a wall-running section where they can utilize red and blue plaforms, Jump Panels and upward-going air currents in order to avoid falling into the water. Also worth mentioning is a brief underwater section on a lower route. After the wall-running section, the player must press onward. Eventually, the player will arrive at another Jump Panel that will take them into a cavern where they must avoid spikes on the walls. After that, it is a straight soot to the Goal Plate, with the Act ending in a way much like the one in the original Emerald Coast.

Act 2

Emerald Coast Act 2's overall level layout is based on the second half of the original Action Stage. When the Act begins, the player will start out on a bridge close to some rocky structures. After that, the player will proceed down routes in a 2.5D perspective that lead across various docks and rocky structures. Along the way, the player can also utilize Rainbow Rings, Dash Ring and upward-going wind currents to take shortcuts. The Act also features some fast-paced platforming sections where the player has to use the Boost and their jump at the right time in order to get to higher routes, ramps, and blue dolphins akin to those in Pirates' Island that can help Modern Sonic cross the water.

At the end of this Act, Modern Sonic will enter a bridge section where an orca will start chasing him for a short while before a Spring sends Modern Sonic flying into the air. While in the air, the player has to complete a Real-Time Interaction by pressing DSB three times in order to keep the orca from eating Modern Sonic. Immediately after, the player will arrive at the Goal Ring.

Trivia

  • Act 1 has a music remix of "Azure Blue World" and Act 2 has a music remix of "Windy and Ripply" which are the first and second parts of Emerald Coast's soundtrack, respectively. This makes it the only level in the game to use a different song for each act and not a classic/modern remix of the same song.
    • This is also reflected in the level design, as Classic Sonic starts from the resort while Modern Sonic starts on a bridge after the lighthouse of the original level.
  • The modern remix reappears in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
  • Act 1 is similar to Neo Green Hill.
  • This is the only level where Modern Sonic can perform combo tricks in the 3DS version.
  • This is the only level where the Thunder Shield can be found on a item box.
    • This is also the only level where the invincibility is not present for either Sonic (and one of the three levels where it's not present for Classic Sonic)
