Emerald Coast (エメラルドコースト Emerarudokōsuto?) is the fourth Stage in the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations. It originally appeared in Sonic Adventure.

Description

It is exclusive to the 3DS version and it's the first stage of the Dreamcast Era. The Orca from the original stage appears to chase both Sonics (Classic in 2D and Modern in 3D)

Act 1

Based on the first half of the original Emerald Coast, In Act 1 begins next to the resort from Station Square. In the first part of the level, Classic Sonic crosses the beach, climbs the rocky structures and escapes from the orca. After the chase and crossing the lighthouse, Sonic runs on the walls, uses jump panels as well red and blue platforms and uses the wind to avoid falling in the water. There's also a brief underwater section in a lower route. The level ends in a similar way to the original level. The Classic remix is almost identical to the original theme, just with heavier focus on guitar.

Act 2

Based on the 2nd half of the original Emerald Coast, Act 2 starts Modern Sonic on a bridge close to the rocky structures rather than in the beach. There, Sonic goes from dock to dock while boosting through a rainbow and red rings. There's some fast-paced platforming that require Sonic using the boost and jumping at the right time to reach the higher routes. He can also use ramps. The level also features some blue dolphins, similar to the ones from Pirates' Island (Sonic Rush Adventure) that help Sonic cross the water. At the end of Modern Sonic's stage, he gets attacked by the orca and then gets boosted into the air by a Spring. Performing Freestyle Tricks is necessary to avoid getting eaten by the orca. The Modern remix is the song from the 2nd half of the original Emerald Coast.

Trivia

  • Act 1 has a music remix of "Azure Blue World" and Act 2 has a music remix of "Windy and Ripply" which are the first and second parts of Emerald Coast's soundtrack, respectively. This makes it the only level in the game to use a different song for each act and not a classic/modern remix of the same song.
    • This is also reflected in the level design, as Classic Sonic starts from the resort while Modern Sonic starts on a bridge after the lighthouse of the original level.
  • The modern remix reappears in Mario & Sonic at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
  • Act 1 is similar to Neo Green Hill.
  • This is the only level where Modern Sonic can perform combo tricks in the 3DS version.
  • This is the only level where the Thunder Shield can be found on a item box.
    • This is also the only level where the invincibility is not present for both Sonics (and one of the three levels where it's not present for Classic Sonic)
