Clamer[1] (クラマー[2] Kuramā?), also known as Shell Star (シェルスター[3][4] Sheru Sutā?) in Japan, is an enemy that appears in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It is a mass-produced, clam-based Badnik model created by Dr. Robotnik.

Appearance[]

Clamer-spr

The Clamers, as their name states, are Badniks that resemble blue and yellow-colored clams with a pair of black eyes and a cannon hidden inside it.

Game appearances[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, this Badnik is referred to as Clamer[1] (クラマー[2] Kuramā?). In these games, Clamers are encountered only in Carnival Night Zone.

In gameplay, the Clamers remain stationary. When the player approaches one, the Clamer pulls out its cannon and fires spike balls in a straight line. When using the Spin Jump on a Clamer's shell however, the playable character will bounce off it diagonally, like a Spring. To destroy a Clamer, the player's best option is to either hit it from behind or roll into them. However, it is also possible to defeat them from above with the Insta-Shield.

Sonic Rivals[]

In Sonic Rivals, a Clamer appears as a collectible card.

Sonic the Comic[]

In the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions, the Clamers appear as part of Dr. Robotnik's Badnik army. It was about to be melted down by Robotnik so that its metal could be used for a new improved Badnik, after Sonic had foiled one of Robotnik's schemes.[5]

Powers and abilities[]

Clamers can fire projectiles using their retractable cannons. In addition, their shells double as Springs and launch whoever steps on them.

Trivia[]

  • In LEGO Dimensions, Clamers appear in the Carnival Night Zone portion of the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World. They open and close their shells periodically, but do not attack players when they come near.
