Payback Fox, formerly known as Fiona Fox, is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She was the alternate version of Fiona Fox from Dark Mobius and a member of the dwindling resistance opposing Enerjak.

Appearance[]

Payback is a red and yellow fox with blue eyes and light brown hair. Being an alternate-universe counterpart, Payback is very similar in appearance to Fiona Fox. However, there are a few notable differences. Being older, she has some lines around her eyes. Payback's dull hair is worn in a rough ponytail; she wears a torn blue top, brown shorts with a belt, brown boots with greaves, metal shoulder-pads and a beaded necklace. Her hands had been roboticized by Sir Charles Hedgehog's Roboticizer, perhaps to save them from a grievous injury.[1]

History[]

Past[]

Payback's early history was most likely largely the same as her Mobius Prime counterpart's. The point of divergence was when Knuckles became corrupted by his chaos powers and decided to conquer Mobius.[2] Payback eventually joined up with Jani-Ca's resistance movement and was one of the few left free after their attempt to defeat Enerjak was foiled.[3]

The Silver Saga[]

Payback continued to live in hiding within Nekronopolis; one day, she and the other Freedom Fighters ventured out to attack a group of Enerjak's Prelate warriors. When one fired its eye lasers at Payback, she absorbed the blast with her cybernetics, and then returned the blast, destroying the Prelate with ease. It was soon discovered that the Prelates had been after Silver the Hedgehog; Payback was rather shocked when the hedgehog made the faux pas of calling Jani-Ca by her original name, though things were quickly calmed down. The group returned to their hidden base with Silver in tow. Unfortunately, they were soon discovered by Enerjak, who set his reformed Prelates against the group; Payback and the others attempted to fight back, but were soon finding themselves overwhelmed.[3]

While the battle started off poorly, the Freedom Fighters were soon able to gain the advantage; Payback helped Scarlette Rabbot defeat Prelate-E, using his laser blasts to charge the nodes on her robotic limbs, and then later used the energy to shoot down Prelate-C and Prelate-S. She was impressed by Silver's plan to attempt to contain the Prelates' Cores to prevent Enerjak from reusing them, but remained confused by his explanation of why he had not joined their movement earlier. However, Enerjak soon retaliated and while the team scattered, Payback mounted an inefficient ambush on the demigod; she eventually fell to him and was reduced to a Core.[4] As Silver confronted Enerjak alone in a final battle, Jani-Ca gathered up Payback's body and laid her down in a row alongside her fallen comrades.[5]

Powers and abilities[]

Payback Fox's roboticized hands have been modified to absorb and throw back energy projectiles, hence her name.[1]

Relationships[]

Enerjak[]

At some point in the past, Knuckles as Dark Enerjak and Payback might have been a couple. It is possible that Payback was trying to play both sides or was trying to get close to the enemy.[1]
