The Egg Pawn is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a Badnik variant created by Dr. Eggman to serve as his primary robot forces in his efforts to conquer the world. However, they have since seemingly been replaced with the more advanced Egg SWAT series.

Appearance[]

The Egg Pawns are humanoid robots based on Dr. Eggman. The typical Egg Pawn is primarily orange in color (although they may come in other colors[1]), with a round body and a dome-shaped head that come together in an egg-like shape. It also has blank cyan eyes, a sharp yellow nose, a wide glowing panel for a mouth, and a black lower torso section.

Early Egg Pawn models had gray cable-like limbs with four-fingered hands, vermilion/orange feet, yellow cuffs around their wrists and ankles, and short shoulder guards.[1] However, later Egg Pawns received additional armor, like thicker forearms and armored legs, but less articulated shoulders.[2]

History[]

Past[]

The Egg Pawns first saw action under the command of Metal Sonic, who at the time was impersonating Dr. Eggman in his bid to gain ultimate power. As such, they were pitted against several groups seeking to stop Metal Sonic.[3] Later, under the command of their true master, they were put into service against the Black Arms during their invasion of Sonic's World.[4] Egg Pawns were also utilized by Eggman and Eggman Nega during their joint operation to take over both their universes.[5]

With the advent of the Egg SWATs, the Egg Pawns phased out of military service, though Eggman kept them around for labor purposes.[2] Additionally, Eggman would sell his outdated Egg Pawns to his former lackey Breezie the Hedgehog, who made them serve as Breeze Media's employees.[1]

During the Shattered World Crisis, a number of Egg Pawns would work at the Eggman Empire's mining operations in Crystal Cave.[2] Meanwhile, the Egg Pawns working at Casino Park would serve the customers and contestants coming to see or participate in the Chaos Emerald Championship.[1][6]
