Emerl is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He was a powerful robot who befriended Sonic the Hedgehog, but was destroyed during Dr. Eggman's schemes to control him.

History[]

Past[]

Generations ago, Emerl was created by an ancient civilization, which he would wipe out after going rogue. Fifty years ago, he was discovered and modified by Gerald Robotnik, and later found again by his grandson, Dr. Eggman. The doctor mass-produced robot models based on Emerl, but later found a way to bend Emerl to his will. Before this, Emerl befriended Sonic and several of his allies, even becoming involved in a clash between Sonic and his friendly rival Knuckles. Emerl later went out of control and threatened to destroy Sonic's World, but was halted by Sonic, regaining his senses shortly before meeting his demise.[1][2]

Emerl's data was later recovered by Eggman and used to build another robot named Gemerl, who took up residence in Mobotropolis.[3][4]

Worlds Collide[]

Emerl also existed at one point on Sonic's World after its dimension had its timeline altered by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily's Genesis Wave. However, he was stopped by Sonic the Hedgehog at some point in this new reality's past. Dr. Light later brought up Emerl to Eggman in an attempt to state the doctor's experiences about tampering with forces that were beyond his control.[5]
