The entrance to the Entrance Stage.

The Entrance Stage (エントランスステージ Entoransusutēji?) is an explorable hub world that appears on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed and contains the game's Gaia Gate. Unlike the other hub worlds presented in Sonic Unleashed, these stages feature an all-time gameplay identical to those found in the game's Action Stages. They are the equivalent to the Sacred Shrines featured in the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed.

Overview[]

The Entrance Stages are featured as explorable hub areas that can be found inside the game's Town Stages. The entrances to these areas in the Town Stages are marked with a rotating circle that is split in half and spots a sun symbol and a moon symbol. The Entrance Stage can found on each continent in the game (except Eggmanland) for a total of eight Entrance Stages.

The Entrance Stage get their name due their role as hosting the different continent's Gaia Gates, which serve as entry points to the game's Action Stages and Boss Stages. From within each Entrance Stage, the player can access all the different playable stages that are featured on the continent.

Unlike the Town Stages and most other hub worlds featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the Entrance Stages' permanent layout are identical to those found in the game's actual Action Stages, where other hub worlds only have brief moments of such gameplay in them. This means that every time the player enters the Entrance Stage, the player can fight and take damage from enemies, collect Rings, gather and lose lives, obtain Level Up Items and items for missions (only once), gather collectibles and Medals and even get a Game Over.

Each Entrance Stage contains a large hourglass that can change the time from day to night and vice-versa. This gimmick allows the player to switch between Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Werehog as playable characters.
