The Gaia Colossus (神殿巨人 Shinden Kyojin?, lit. "Temple Giant") is a gigantic character from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It is the transformation of Chip caused by combining and merging with the seven Gaia Temples, with the aid of the seven Chaos Emeralds. This form is basically an amalgamation of all seven of the Gaia Temples, appearing as a giant golem, and is used by Chip against Dark Gaia and later Perfect Dark Gaia in both the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed.

Powers and abilities[]

The Gaia Colossus has the ability of flight and can dash forward at speeds that let it evade Dark Gaia's projectiles through midair. Due to being powered by Light Gaia, it has impressive physical strength that makes it able to harm and fend off Dark Gaia by destroying the boulders hurled at it, use a light-fueled energy punch with both hands, and even tear through Perfect Dark Gaia's defense shield. It can also take a great deal of damage, as it goes toe-to-toe with Dark Gaia and manages to hold off a point-blank energy blast from it.

Weakness[]

Gaia Colossus' main weakness is that it cannot move very fast during battles, and is therefore more liable to attacks.

In other media[]

Archie Comics[]

The Gaia Colossus, from Sonic the Hedgehog #285.

The Gaia Colossus appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. Its debut appearance was in Sonic the Hedgehog #285, during the finale of the Shattered World Crisis saga (which was the Sonic Unleashed adaptation). Its role in the comic is nearly identical to how it was used in Sonic Unleashed, with a minor difference being Dr. Eggman erecting the Gaia Colossus instead of Chip.

Trivia[]

  • There is confusion in the size of the colossus, as indicated when Sonic lies on the Gaia Colossus' hand.
  • The Gaia Colossus bears some resemblance to the Egg Golem.
