The Gaia Manuscripts are an object that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are ancient documents that chronicle a cyclical destruction-and-rebirth of Sonic's World cosmology.[1]

Description[]

The Gaia Manuscripts tells about an ancient myth revolving around the death and rebirth of Mobius that occurs every ten thousandth year where the planet shatters apart. It also contains info on the Gaia Temples, especially regarding their functions and locations, and Dark Gaia.

History[]

In the present day, the Gaia Manuscripts were researched by Professor Dillon Pickle. When Pickle was nearly done decoding them, however, the Gaia Manuscripts and all the research related to them were stolen by Dr. Eggman's Badnik Horde. Eggman, wishing to use their content to use the tides of the Shattered World Crisis in his favor, then had the manuscripts and its research send for transport on the Bullet Train to be picked up at Bullet Station.[2][3] The Freedom Fighters managed to intercept the train and rescue the professors, but forgot to get their research. Later, the train arrived at its destination in rough shape, but Dr. Eggman found that the manuscripts were still aboard and intact.[1] After deciphering them, Eggman learned about the legends of the Light Gaia and Dark Gaia, and how the Gaia Temples and Chaos Emeralds were crucial to restoring the world after it was broken apart by the excess energy of the Super Genesis Wave.[4]

Trivia[]

Island IN Manuscripts

Angel Island depicted above the shattered world, from Sonic the Hedgehog #259.

  • When explaining the Gaia Manuscripts, Professor Pickle says the death and rebirth of Sonic's World happens every ten thousands of years. The illustrations of the Gaia Manuscripts show Angel Island visable above the broken world. However, Angel Island rose 4,000 years ago and would have not been present during the previous rebirth of the world.
