Why are the young always so impatient?

— Master Zik, Mega Man: Worlds Unite Battles #1

Master Zik is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is the founder of the Deadly Six of which he is a member of.

Appearance[]

Master Zik is a sky blue Zeti, as well as the smallest member of the Deadly Six. His head and body are indistinguishable and are of a spherical shape, with small limbs and a short tail. Only Zik's head is sky blue, while the rest of his body is black. He wears a robe that matches the color of his torso with a torn hem on his wrists and around the waist. His short black legs end with two blue claws, with a third claw on each heel. Zik has five fingers on each of his sky blue hands, each finger tipped with a blue nail.

Zik has wrinkles across his forehead and lips, as well as a long white mustache which reaches down to his feet. He has a pair of very short horns on his head, which are black and have a yellow horizontal stripe across each of them. He is largely bald sans for a long strand of white hair. Zik's eyes are purple with yellow sclera, while he has blue eyelids and black under-eyes. Zik carries a wooden staff that is taller than him, which ends in a inward swirl at the top.

While aiding Sigma, Master Zik began wearing black chest and shoulder armor with the "Σ" symbol on front.

History[]

Worlds Unite[]

Deadly Six Archie

Master Zik and his enslaved allies, from Sonic Universe #76.

At an unknown point in time, Master Zik founded the Deadly Six, but eventually passed the reigns on to Zavok while remaining a member and advisor to the younger Zeti. During the Shattered World Crisis, he and his teammates were enslaved by Dr. Eggman using the Cacophonic Conch. However, they were freed from this enforced servitude by Sigma, a villainous intelligence from another world who sought to dominate all reality. Grateful for his "rescue," Zik and the rest of the Deadly Six forced Eggman and later Dr. Wily to serve Sigma, building him a new body and his Unity Engines. The doctors also created armor to enhance the powers of the Deadly Six, which they then attempted to use to overthrow Sigma. However, Sigma had anticipated such a betrayal, and the armor also served to enslave the Deadly Six anew, this time to Sigma's will. Only short two of his "traditional eight commanders," Sigma divided the Deadly Six into two groups. Zik, Zomom, and Zazz traveled to the year 20XX in Mega Man's World and attacked Mega Man. Zik proved the deciding party in the battle, using his abilities to force Mega Man to take himself down.[1][2]

Master Zik attacks Rotor

Master Zik strikes Rotor, from Sonic Boom #9.

Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog were soon converted into M'egga Man and Sonic Man and sent to attack Mobotropolis and Mega City, respectively.[3] However, after Sigma's Unity Engines began merging the planets together, the two corrupted heroes began attacking each other. Sigma soon recognized that Eggman and Wily had double-crossed him, and sent Zik, Zomom, and Zeena to hunt them down.[4] Due to Xander Payne's interference they lost the pair, and were soon reassigned to join Zavok, Zazz, and Zor in leading Sigma's Mechaniloid army against the Sky Patrol.[5] Zik proved a formidable foe despite his small size, getting the drop on Rotor the Walrus during the battle. After their robotic minions were dispatched, they used their powers to force the Maverick Hunters and Robot Masters to attack their allies.[6] However, Zik and his teammates were rid of their armor by the Egg-Wily Uppity Robot Scrambler Cannon, and afterwards collapsed from exhaustion. They were then placed in the brig of the Sky Patrol just prior to the ship falling under attack by a group of Time-Cloned Mavericks.[7] Sigma's trip back through time was later undone, as well as Eggman's invasion, returning Zik and his comrades to the Lost Hex.[8]

Master Zik Comics

Master Zik hunting Mobini, from Sonic the Hedgehog Halloween ComicFest 2013.

At some point in the not-to-distant future, where Dr. Eggman had enslaved the Deadly Six with his Cacophonic Conch again, Master Zik and the other members of the Deadly Six were rounded up by Zavok to capture Mobinis for Eggman.[9]

Personality[]

Master Zik seems to be extremely confident in the experience granted him by his advanced age, and looks down upon younger, less-traveled beings.

Powers and abilities[]

Master Zik is incredibly powerful despite his small size. He has psychokinetic abilities that let him pick up objects and launch them as projectiles and can project blue energy balls.

As a Zeti, Master Zik has the natural ability to manipulate magnetic fields which he can use to control machines and manipulate metals, though the latter application is limited by how advanced the machine he is trying to control is.[1]

Equipment[]

While in Sigma's service, Master Zik wore armor constructed by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily. This armor enhanced all his abilities to such levels that he could control even technology from the year 21XX, but it was also equipped with a device that let Sigma control his mind.[1] This armor was later destroyed by the Egg-Wily Uppity Robot Scrambler Cannon.
