The Giant Chopper[1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a giant piranha-based Badnik and a more monstrous version of the Chopper that can swim through water at high speeds and swallow its foes in one gulp.

Appearance[]

The Giant Chopper has nearly the same features a basic Chopper, except it is bigger, has a different-looking hypnotic eyes, yellow and purple whiskers above and below its mouth, and a gaping mouth.

Games appearance[]

Sonic Generations[]

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, a Giant Chopper from somewhere across spacetime appears as an invincible enemy in Green Hill Act 2 and Seaside Hill Act 2. In Green Hill Act 2, it make its presence known when the player goes inside the dark cave from Green Hill as Modern Sonic while grinding on the three Grind Rails there. Around here, the Giant Chopper will see Sonic and starts chasing him along the Grind Rails, jumping in and out of the water in the progress of catching Sonic, but ultimately failing to catch him.

In Seaside Hill Act 2, if the player starts to go outside the water routes marked with the Buoys, a Giant Chopper will start to follow Sonic. If this chase draws out for too long, the Giant Chopper will ultimately catch Sonic, costing him a life. This will affect even Super Sonic, who is otherwise undefeatable.

In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the Giant Chopper is slightly smaller. In this game, it can be seen jumping in the ocean during the last lap of the Ocean View track. While swimming, it acts like an obstacle that creates waves of water on the water routes.

Powers and abilities[]

Despite their huge size, the Giant Chopper is an expert swimmer, capable of swimming at speeds that rival Sonic's boosting speed. It also has incredible jumping skill, enough to leap far from the surface, with vast amounts of strength. The Giant Chopper also possesses giant and powerful jaws that are capable of easily chomping down Sonic in a single bite, as well as being able to resist Silver's Psychokinesis to the point where of making him struggle to survive.[2]

Weaknesses[]

Despite being one of the most powerful Badniks, the Giant Chopper can still be destroyed with weapons such as the Wispons.[2] The Giant Chopper can also be ambushed and destroyed from behind, mainly if they are preoccupied with attacking another person.[2]

A Giant Chopper, from Sonic the Hedgehog #63.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing, a Giant Chopper emerged from the mountain attacking Silver and Mimic (disguised as "Duo"). The Giant Chopper chomped down on the struggling Silver, with Duo refusing to help him and proceeding to ditch Silver so that he could get eaten by the Badnik. Unfortunately for the Giant Chopper, it would get ambushed and destroyed by the Diamond Cutters, who used their Wispons to easily destroy the Badnik from behind, allowing Silver to escape from the jaws of the Giant Chopper. Silver then used his Psychokinesis to throw away the Giant Chopper's body.[2]

Sometime later, a now repaired Giant Chopper was used by Orbot and Cubot to kidnap Sonic, Tails, Amy, Big, Cream, Cheese, Rouge, and Omega and take them to their Winter Jam reality show. While the Giant Chopper was successful in kidnapping most of it's victims, it unknowingly failed to capture Froggy, who managed to successfully escape being eaten by the large Badnik.[3]
